    Since the Fourth Gospel’s metaphorical language plays on several levels of meaning, the image of the family in Bethany reveals symbolic overtones hinting at the Johannine idea of a community consisting of siblings and friends of Jesus. Before Passion, the Gospel’s love imagery gets intensified in the raising of Lazarus, which means life for the “brother”, but death for Jesus, who gives himself for the life of his friends. At the dinner in Bethany with his beloved, Jesus is anointed for his burial, and simultaneously as the messianic king, as can be seen, for example, from the motif of fragrance filling the “house”, which distinguishes the Johannine story from the Synoptic anointment narratives. Lazarus who is raised to life, Martha as the spokesperson of the Johannine confession, and Mary with her prophetic love service represent several aspects of discipleship. The familia Dei substituting former familial bonds is actually constituted in the “hour” of Jesus’ exaltation which enables the believers to become children of God. In the community of brothers and sisters, in which divine love takes residence, he remains present.

    So far, “Egypt” has been subject to biblical research only as setting of the Joseph story. The focus was mainly on the image of Egypt conveyed by the text and the relation of this image to other biblical depictions of Egypt or the historical and geographical entity. Based on the relational theory of space by Martina Löw (Raumsoziologie, 2001), this paper analyses how “Egypt” is narratively constructed as space in Gen 37; 39–50. Central to this construction is the arrangement of houses, which are rather social than architectural entities. Houses constitute Egypt as well as Canaan in specific ways and are also structuring elements of the text. Bislang trat „Ägypten“ in der bibelwissenschaftlichen Forschung ausschließlich als Schauplatz, d.h. als Ort der Joseferzählung in den Blick. Das Interesse galt vorwiegend der Frage, welches Ägyptenbild der Text vermittelt und in welchem Verhältnis dieses zu anderen Ägyptenbildern der Bibel oder zur historisch-geografischen Größe „Ägypten“ steht. Der vorliegende Beitrag analysiert, ausgehend vom relationalen Raumbegriff von Martina Löw (Raumsoziologie, 2001), wie der Raum „Ägypten“ in Gen 37,39–50 mit narrativen Mitteln konstruiert wird. Zentral hierfür ist die Anordnung von Häusern, die weniger als architektonische, sondern als soziale Größen sowohl Ägypten als auch Kanaan in je unterschiedlicher Weise konstituieren und ebenso den Text gliedern.

    Die Darstellung von Genie und Gedankenarbeit im Film wurde bislang noch kaum untersucht: Wie lässt sich etwas so Unbeobachtbares wie Geistesblitze oder Genialität visuell erfahrbar machen? Welche Strategien werden angewandt, um begriffliches Denken filmisch darzustellen? Und was sagt das über die Medien und Technologien aus, die dabei zum Einsatz kommen?Diesen Fragen geht Karoline Stiefel in ihrer detaillierten Untersuchung der Fernsehserien House, M.D. und Sherlock nach. In beiden Serien werden regelmäßig die eigentlich unsichtbaren Gedankenwelten des Helden für den Zuschauer sichtbar gemacht – wobei es einen immer verbleibenden, undarstellbaren Rest zu geben scheint, mit dem man schließlich bei zentralen medienphilosophischen Fragen und der Selbstreflexivität des Films ankommt.Karoline Stiefels Buch dient dabei nicht nur als eine verständliche Einführung in filmphilosophische Gefilde, sondern bietet durch die innovative Verknüpfung der Ansätze von Gilles Deleuze und Jaques Rancière auch Kennern der Filmtheorie eine unkonventionelle Sicht auf die französische Filmphilosophie – und erklärt, inwiefern man Deleuze auch als Ranciéres Moriarty bezeichnen kann.Fans der Serien erwartet neben einem umfassenden Einblick in die Gedankenwelt von Gregory House und Sherlock Holmes auch ein tieferes Verständnis dafür, was die filmische Darstellung der Gedankenarbeit eines Universalgenies für eine Gesellschaft bedeutet, in der Mensch und Technik aufeinanderprallen.
