First published in 1973, Some Sweet Day is the story of the Turnbolt family in 1944, as told by six year old Gatewood Turnbolt, the eldest son. His relationship with his father, Will Turnbolt, a volatile, sometimes violent man, is a combination of wariness and love. ""It is an evocative, painful and lovely book that captures the immediacy and bewilderment of a child facing harsh imponderables for the first time.""—Publishers Weekly ""Without wasting a well-chosen word, Mr. Woolley fills in family ties, relationships with neighbors, the tone of the country. He suggests a raison d' être for Will Cover -- Title -- Some Sweet Day -- About the Author

Vicente Blasco Ibanez's most famous novel, adapted several times for film, is set in Europe during World War I. A young South American artist moves to Paris when the War breaks out. Ibanez paints a wonderful picture of pre-war Germany and France during the war The Desnoyers family moves from Argentina to France just before the start of World War I. Desnoyers is a Frenchman, his wife is Argentinian and his brother-in-law is German. When tensions between Germany and France mount at the beginning of the war, the already difficult family relationships are strained. Sisters cannot understand their differing loyalties. Desnoyers cannot accept the laid-back lifestyle of his son, who prefers to tango and does not jump to enlist in the army. This son, Julio, is later devestated by a broken romance and joins the army in an attempt to heal himself. The war changes everyone. As the conflict goes on, the ideaology of the time is examined in great detail, as is the mind-set of each of the primary characters. The story is ultimately very moving and seems to make an important point about the nature of war and the bonds that tie fathers to sons

Chris Eveson is a genius; streetwise, artistic and sensitive, and rebelling against the domineering abuses of his father. Unlike his twin brother, Cain, who seems average in every way – at least to the outward observer. But gifts and talents run much deeper than two dimensions. Brian Caswell's extraordinary new novel will draw you into a web of mysteries, and of horrors from the past buried by lies in the present
