    ger: Die vorliegende Arbeit behandelt die Konstruktion des Fremden im audiovisuellen Medium Film im deutschsprachigen Raum der 1930er Jahre.Einer Auseinandersetzung mit Theorien der Konstruktion des Fremden folgt die Beleuchtung der verschiedenen Repräsentationsformen des Fremden, angefangen von den ethnologischen Museen über Völkerschauen bis hin zur ethnographischen Fotographie.Im Folgenden wird das Medium Film und insbesondere der ethnographische Dokumentarfilm medientheoretisch und -historisch aufgerollt.Der Hauptteil der Arbeit ist der Analyse des Filmes ?Rätsel der Urwaldhölle? aus dem Jahr 1938 gewidmet. Der Film geht auf die siebzehnmonatige Amazonas-Jari-Expedition eines deutschen Forscherteams rund um Otto-Schulz-Kampfhenkel zurück. Dieses Projekt wird zunächst hinsichtlich seiner Teilnehmer, Finanzierung, Ziele und Ergebnisse ausführlich behandelt. Darauf folgt die Analyse des Films mit dem Schwerpunkt der Konstruktion des Fremden. Hierbei sind erstaunliche Kontinuitäten hinsichtlich der Darstellung des Fremden im ethnographischen Film vom beginnenden zwanzigsten Jahrhundert bis zum Erscheinungsjahr des Films erkennbar. Die Expeditionäre konstruieren verschiedene Ebenen des Fremden. Neben der Kontrastierung zwischen Zivilisation und Chaos wird bei den Fremden zwischen ?Mischlingen? und ?Eingeborenen? unterschieden. Abschließend wird der gleichnamige Expeditionsbericht mit dem Film auf Analogien und Differenzen hin verglichen. Ebenso wird der nationalsozialistische Hintergrund des Projekts behandelt und der Frage nachgegangen, in wieweit sich beim Film wie auch beim Expeditionsbericht nationalsozialistisch-propagandistische Motive finden lassen, da in den letzten Jahren vermehrt in populären Quellen von einer Vereinnahmung dieses Projekts durch den Nationalsozialismus gesprochen wurde. Nach eingehender Beschäftigung mit der Expedition sowie Film und Buch ist es aber nicht möglich, eindeutige Anzeichen nationalsozialistischer Vereinnahmung zu erkennen. eng: The present paper deals with the construction of the ?other?in the audio-visual medium film in the german-speaking area of the 1930s.The thesis starts with an examination of the theories of the construction of the ?other?. The subsequent chapter deals with the different forms of representation of the ?other?; from ethnological museums over ?Völkerschauen (peoples shows)? to ethnographic photography.In the succeeding chapter the medium movie and especially the ethnographic documentary film is examined in a media-theoretic and ?historic context.The main part of this paper deals with an analysis of the film ?Rätsel der Urwaldhölle? from 1938 which goes back to a 17-month-expedition to the amazonas-jari-region from a german research team around its leader Otto Schulz-Kampfhenkel. Firstly, this project is examined concerning its participants, financing, goals and results. Subsequently, an analysis of the film concerning the construction of the ?other? can be found.Herein, astonishing continuities regarding the representation of the ?other? in ethnographic films from the beginning of the 1900s to the year of release of the movie are visible. The members of the expedition construct different levels of the ?other?.Besides the contrasting juxtaposition between civilisation and chaos, a differentiation between ?Mischlinge? (mixed-blood) and ?Eingeborene? (natives) is made. Conclusively, the same-titled expedition report is compared to the film regarding analogies and differences.Another focus of the thesis is placed on a possible national-socialistic background of the project concerning national-socialistic motives, because in recent years some popular sources stated a high connection between this project and National Socialism. After an extensive examination of the film as well as the book, no unambiguous proof of such a big correlation can be found.

    ger: Die vorliegende Dissertation befasst sich mit dem hochaktuellen und noch nicht ausführlich analysierten Thema: wie wurde das Bild des "Neuen Menschen" im Dokumentarfilm des nachrevolutionären Russlands der 1920-er Jahre dargestellt. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf der Frage, inwiefern die Darstellung eines Menschen und seines Lebens im Film der historischen Realität der Zeit entspricht, als die sogenannte Neue ökonomische Politik (NEP) durchgeführt wurde. Die Untersuchung des Forschungsstandes in diesem Bereich hat gezeigt, dass, obwohl die sowjetischen Dokumentarfilme dieses Zeitraumes schon mehrmals erforscht worden sind, es keine spezielle wissenschaftliche Abhandlung zu diesem Thema gibt. Als Forschungsgegenstand für diese Arbeit dienen Dokumentarfilme von Dziga Vertov, einem bekannten sowjetischen Regisseur dieser Zeit. Sein großes Talent erlaubte ihm einige Dokumentarfilme zu drehen, die immer wieder von Wissenschaftlern als äußerst informative Quellen für die ersten Jahrzehnte des sowjetischen Russlands verwendet werden. Die Innovativität und Originalität von Vertovs Herangehensweise wurden oft von Forschern in ihren Werken behandelt. Das Verhältnis zwischen seinem Screen-Bild und der Realität ist aber immer an der Peripherie der Forschung geblieben. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es herauszufinden, wie das im Film gezeigte Porträt des "Neuen Menschen" in Vertovs Dokumentationen erscheint, welche Kennzeichnen (des Porträts) von seiner Kamera beleuchtet werden und ob die Ergebnisse der Aufnahme und des Schnittes mit der Realität im Einklang stehen. Vertovs Dokumentationen werden nicht für "Abdrücke" der Wirklichkeit, sondern für Kunstwerke, die der sozialpolitischen Situation des Landes entsprechen, gehalten. So gesehen, erscheint das kollektive Bild des "Neuen Menschen" als ein künstliches Modell, das vom Regisseur extra geschaffen wurde, um die Propaganda-Aufgaben der bolschewistischen Partei zu erfüllen. Die Arbeit enthält einige Illustrationen: Bilder aus Vertovs Filmen. eng: The paper deals with a currently important subject that has not so far received all the scholarly attention it deserves: the picture of "the New Man" as presented on the documentary film-screen in the 1920es in the post-revolutionary Russia. The main focus is on how far the presentation of man`s life on the screen is true to the actual reality of the period when the Soviet government started the so-called "new economic policy" (the NEP) in the country. The study of the state of the art in the field has shown that, although the soviet documentary film-works of the period have been subjected to close scrutiny by quite a few authors, no special research has been carried out on the issue under discussion. The material subjected to analysis along these lines comprises documentary films by Dziga Vertov, a famous Soviet documentalist of that time, whose talent as film-director enabled him to create an impressive amount of documentaries, which have traditionally been used in scholarly research as a reliable source of information about the early years of the soviet rule. The novelty of Vertov?s approach has been discussed time and again by quite a few scholars, but the correlation of his screen and the reality of life has somehow been out of focus. The aim and purpose of the present study is to find out how the screen-portrait of the ?new man? was built up in Vertov´s documentaries, which of his characteristics were highlighted, whether or not the result of the camera-work and the following cutting and arrangement of mini-pictures corresponded to reality. Vertov´s films are looked at not as screen-replicas of the then-reality but as products of the time, conditioned by the peculiarities of the social political situation in the country. Viewed from this point, the collective screen-portrait of "the New Soviet Man" turns out to be a largely artificial model, carefully and creatively constructed and elaborated by a talented director to fulfil the tasks set by the party propaganda.
