    A volume in honour of Angela LocatelliThe book explores the significance of literary translation and interpretation, in the widest sense of terms, as multiple processes of meaning and cultural transfer, by investigating how and why literature can be considered as a repository and a disseminator of knowledge and values. Featuring essays by a number of scholars focusing on a wide range of literary and critical texts of different nations and cultures and encompassing the last three centuries, this book intends to offer a contribution to the study of translation and interpretation as literary processes of cultural and epistemic dissemination of knowledge from both a theoretical and a practical perspective. Angaben zur beteiligten Person Calzoni: Prof. Dr. Raul Calzoni lehrt Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft und Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft am Department für Fremde Literaturen, Sprachen und Kulturen der Universität Bergamo (Italien). Angaben zur beteiligten Person Di Blasio: Francesca Di Blasio is Associate Professor of English Literature at the University of Trento, Italy. Her research areas are Indigenous Australian Literature, Early Modern Literature, and Modernism. Angaben zur beteiligten Person Perletti: Greta Perletti is Associate Professor of English Literature at the University of Trento, Italy. Her research interests focus on interdisciplinary approaches to the study of the long 19th century. Angaben zur beteiligten Person Agazzi: Dr. Elena Agazzi ist Professorin für German Studies an der Universität Bergamo. Elena Agazzi is Full Professor for German Studies at the University of Bergamo. Her latest researches deal with the problem of cultural memory in Germany and Europe in the wake of the Second World War.

    Der vorliegende Band geht auf ein interdisziplinäres Forschungskolloquium an der Universität Paderborn zurück. Fachvertreter:innen der Komparatistik, Romanistik, Germanistik, Geschichtswissenschaft und Philosophie richten den Blick auf den Atlantik als Transfer- und Verkehrsraum des 18. Jahrhunderts. Im atlantischen Raum, so der Tenor der hier versammelten Beiträge, werden die inneren Widersprüche dieses Jahrhunderts mit besonderer Anschaulichkeit sichtbar, insofern sich hier Freiheit und Sklaverei, Gleichheit und Kolonialismus, Autonomie und Heteronomie kreuzen. Systematisch lesbar wird damit eine transatlantische Aufklärung, die durch die Zirkulation von Menschen, Waren, Texten und Ideen begründet wird. Die hier vorgeschlagene Perspektive stellt die Vorstellung einer monolithischen ›europäischen Aufklärung‹ infrage und weist auf, wie sehr aufklärerische Selbstbehauptung und -reflexion auf eine stete Auseinandersetzung mit dem transatlantischen ›Anderen‹ angewiesen ist, um auf diese Weise den Raum zu entfalten und den Blick auf unterschiedliche Zentren und Knotenpunkte der Aufklärung zu richten.

    This volume makes a substantial contribution to developing Comparative Postcolonial Studies within Europe. Theoretical inquiry into the diversity and interconnectedness of European colonial histories and postcolonial conditions combines with new approaches to conceptualizing internal European (post-) colonialisms, and case studies and comparative studies of the literature and culture of a broad range of countries and language areas, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal, the former Habsburg region and the Baltics, along with the German language area, Britain and France. Authors consider the repercussions of overseas colonialism across Europe, postcolonial migration, multiculturalism and postcolonial politics of memory, as well as the interface between colonialism and nationalism and the innovative cross-mapping of postcolonial research and Memory Studies. Transnational and comparative approaches are used to shed new light on the relationship between global developments and regional specificities, along with the interaction between (post-) colonial memory and (national) identity from the nineteenth century to the present day

    Forgeries are an omnipresent part of our culture and closely related to traditional ideas of authenticity, legality, authorship, creativity, and innovation. Based on the concept of mimesis, this volume illustrates how forgeries must be understood as autonomous aesthetic practices - creative acts in themselves - rather than as mere rip-offs of an original work of art.The proceedings bring together research from different scholarly fields. They focus on various mimetic practices such as pseudo-translations, imposters, identity theft, and hoaxes in different artistic and historic contexts. By opening up the scope of the aesthetic implications of fakes, this anthology aims to consolidate forging as an autonomous method of creation.

Authors consider the repercussions of overseas colonialism across Europe, postcolonial migration, multiculturalism and postcolonial politics of memory, as well as the interface between colonialism and nationalism and the innovative cross-mapping of postcolonial research and Memory Studies. Transnational and comparative approaches are used to shed new light on the relationship between global developments and regional specificities, along with the interaction between (post-) colonial memory and (national) identity from the nineteenth century to the present day
