Diese Feldwechsel sind für Verlage und für die Akteur:innen äußert lukrativ und attraktiv. Die knappe Währung Aufmerksamkeit wird im Übermaß ausgeschüttet, wenn jemand mit einem gewissen Bekanntheitsgrad aufbricht und den literarischen Kampfplatz betritt. Die Beiträger:innen kartographieren das expandierende Feld der popliterarischen Musiker:innenromane und -texte mit besonderem Fokus auf ästhetische Verfahren und Künstler:inneninszenierung.

Die Beiträger:innen fragen nach den Funktionen und Erscheinungsformen auktorialer Performanz in Weblogs, sozialen Medien und auf anderen digitalen Bühnen, die im Zuge der Covid-19-Pandemie einen Boom erlebten. Sie zeigen, wie analoge Medien und Praktiken der Autor:inneninszenierung im Digitalen aufgegriffen, modifiziert und mitunter durch neue Modelle öffentlicher Autor:innenschaft ersetzt werden. Neben den ökonomischen Zusammenhängen interessiert dabei insbesondere die politische Dimension schriftstellerischer Selbstinszenierung, die in digitalen Öffentlichkeiten virulent wird.

Die Beiträger*innen widmen sich diesem Phänomen und verstehen das Codieren als Praxis der Schriftlichkeit. Es zeigt sich: Die Digitalisierung formt Schreiben und Schrift in einer Art und Weise um, die weit über die unterschiedlichen semiotischen und symbolischen Ebenen von Code und Schrift hinausgeht.

Its 27 original contributions by eminent scholars offer a multi-layered account of authorship as a defining element of literature and culture. Covering a vast chronological range, Part I considers the history of authorship from cuneiform writing to contemporary digital publishing; it discusses authorship in ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, early Jewish cultures, medieval, Renaissance, modern, postmodern and Chinese literature. The second part focuses on the place of authorship in literary theory, and on challenges to theorizing literary authorship, such as gender and sexuality, postcolonial and indigenous contexts for writing. Finally, Part III investigates practical perspectives on the topic, with a focus on attribution, anonymity and pseudonymity, plagiarism and forgery, copyright and literary property, censorship, publishing and marketing and institutional contexts.

A literate South. A pervasive assumption about the culture of the southern United States is that it is firmly rooted in an oral tradition, not a written one. Schweiger complicates our understanding of literacy and reading in the American South before emancipation by shedding light on literature's importance in helping the South preserve tradition, develop southern vernacular, and form a cultural identity. Schweiger explains how the "universal truth" of literacy's incompatibility with slavery hid readers in this region from their society and beyond, and obscured a rich literate tradition

    "Gender, Collaboration, and Authorship in German Culture challenges a model of literary production that persists in literary studies: the so-called Geniekult or the idea of the solitary male author as genius that emerged around 1800 in German lands. A closer look at creative practices during this time indicates that collaborative creative endeavors, specifically joint ventures between women and men, were an important mode of literary production during this era. This volume surveys a variety of such collaborations and proves that male and female spheres of creation were not as distinct as has been previously thought.
