    The study provides a close analysis of literary works by women in late-18<UP>th</UP>- and early-19<UP>th</UP>-century Russia, with a focus on Anna Naumova, Mariia Pospelova, and Mariia Bolotnikova. Political, social and feminist theories are applied to examine restrictions imposed on women. Women authors in particular were fettered by a culture of feminisation strongly influenced by the French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. As Sentimentalism and its aesthetics began to give way to Romantic ideals, some provincial Russian women writers saw an opportunity to claim social equality, and to challenge traditional concepts of authorship and a view of women as mute and passive.

    Chinese Poetry and Translation: Rights and Wrongs offers fifteen essays on the triptych of poetry + translation + Chinese. The collection has three parts: "The Translator's Take," "Theoretics," and "Impact." The conversation stretches from queer-feminist engagement with China's newest poetry to philosophical and philological reflections on its oldest, and from Tang- and Song-dynasty classical poetry in Western languages to Baudelaire and Celan in Chinese. Translation is taken as an interlingual and intercultural act, and the essays foreground theoretical expositions and the practice of translation in equal but not opposite measure. Poetry has a transforming yet ever-acute relevance in Chinese culture, and this makes it a good entry point for studying Chinese-foreign encounters. Pushing past oppositions that still too often restrict discussions of translation-form versus content, elegance versus accuracy, and "the original" versus "the translated"-this volume brings a wealth of new thinking to the interrelationships between poetry, translation, and China.

    For the first time, this comprehensive study deals with the entire reception of Schiller's works in all relevant Slavic literatures up to 1900. She concentrates on the translations of his poetry into the corresponding languages ​​as well as the respective reactions to his work in scientific circles as well as in the wider literary public. Not least of all, it is taken into account to what extent the respective nationalistic journalistic statements on Schiller reflect an independent Slavic opinion formation or, in their dependence on foreign sources, possibly far more particularly reflect German or French judgments on his work. The presentation complements a detailed, more than 1,600 titles comprehensive bibliography of the transmissions of works Schiller in all Slavic languages ​​until 1900. Diese umfangreiche Studie behandelt erstmalig die gesamte Rezeption der Werke Schillers in allen relevanten slavischen Literaturen bis 1900. Sie konzentriert sich auf die Übersetzungen seiner Dichtungen in die entsprechenden Sprachen sowie die jeweiligen Reaktionen auf sein Schaffen in wissenschaftlichen Kreisen wie in der breiteren literarischen Öffentlichkeit. Hierbei wird nicht zuletzt auch berücksichtigt, inwiefern die jeweiligen nationalsprachlichen publizistischen Äußerungen zu Schiller eine eigenständige slavische Meinungsbildung widerspiegeln bzw. in ihrer Abhängigkeit von ausländischen Quellen gegebenenfalls weit eher vor allem deutsche bzw. französische Urteile zu seinem Werk reflektieren. Die Darstellung ergänzt eine detaillierte, mehr als 1.600 Titel umfassende Bibliographie der Übertragungen von Werken Schillers in sämtliche slavischen Sprachen bis 1900.

    In the last quarter of the XV. Century was printed in Würzburg the "Expositio Psalmorum", attributed to the Würzburg Bishop Bruno compilation of various commentaries on psalms, biblical odes and other texts ecclesiastical content. One of the first printed editions served as a template for the Russian-Slavonic translation "Tolkovaja Psaltir 'Brunona Gerbipolenskogo", which Dmitrij Gerasimov completed on behalf of the then Novgorod archbishop Makarij in 1535; thanks to the great spread of German prints in Novgorod and the surrounding area, an otherwise quite insignificant psalm commentary was also given special attention in the Eastern Slavs. The aim of this dissertation is to acquaint the "Tolkovaja Psaltir" with the Slavic professional audience, highlighting historical, linguistic and cultural peculiarities that emphasize the importance of this hitherto neglected work, both in terms of the translation problem and in terms of translation on the tradition of lore in the Slavic Orthodox world. Im letzten Viertel des XV. Jh. wurde in Würzburg die "Expositio Psalmorum" gedruckt, eine dem Würzburger Bischof Bruno zugeschriebene Kompilation aus verschiedenen Kommentaren zu Psalmen, biblischen Oden und weiteren Texten kirchlichen Inhalts. Eine der ersten gedruckten Ausgaben diente als Vorlage der russisch-kirchenslavischen Übersetzung "Tolkovaja Psaltir' Brunona Gerbipolenskogo", die Dmitrij Gerasimov im Auftrag des damaligen Novgoroder Erzbischofs Makarij im Jahre 1535 vollendete; dank der großen Verbreitung deutscher Drucke in Novgorod und Umgebung fand ein sonst ziemlich unbedeutender Psalmenkommentar auch bei den Ostslaven besondere Beachtung. Die vorliegende Arbeit setzt sich zum Ziel, die "Tolkovaja Psaltir'" dem slavistischen Fachpublikum bekannt zu machen, und dabei auf historische, sprachliche sowie kulturelle Besonderheiten hinzuweisen, welche die Bedeutung dieses bisher vernachlässigten Werkes hervorheben, sowohl im Hinblick auf die Übersetzungsproblematik, als auch auf die Überlieferungsgeschichte in der slavischen orthodoxen Welt.

    Ethics and Aesthetics of Translation engages with translation, in both theory and practice, as part of an interrogation of ethical as well as political thought in the work of three bilingual European authors: Bernardo Atxaga, Milan Kundera and Jorge Semprún. In approaching the work of these authors, the book draws upon the approaches to translation offered by Benjamin, Derrida, Ricœur and Deleuze to highlight a broad set of ethical questions, focused upon the limitations of the monolingual and the democratic possibilities of linguistic plurality; upon our innate desire to translate difference into similarity; and upon the ways in which translation responds to the challenges of individual and collective remembrance.

    Each chapter explores these interlingual but also intercultural, interrelational and interdisciplinary issues, mapping a journey of translation that begins in the impact of translation upon the work of each author, continues into moments of linguistic translation, untranslatability and mistranslation within their texts and ultimately becomes an exploration of social, political and affective (un)translatability. In these journeys, the creative and critical potential of translation emerges as a potent, often violent, but always illuminating, vision of the possibilities of differentiation and connection, generation and memory, in temporal, linguistic, cultural and political terms.

Using long-term ethnographic research on devotional Islam in Mauritius, Patrick Eisenlohr explores how the voice, as a site of divine manifestation, becomes refracted in media practices that have become integral parts of religious traditions. At the core of Eisenlohr's concern is the interplay of voice, media, affect, and listeners' religious experiences.     Der jung verstorbene Dichter Rainer Maria Gerhardt (1927–1954) war ein Solitär. Zu einer Zeit, in der sich die bundesdeutsche Literatur nur zögerlich ins Neue vortastete, eröffnete er ungekannte Horizonte. Seine Übersetzungen und Verlagsprojekte präsentierten den Nachkriegsdeutschen Poesie aus allen Teilen der Welt. Gerhardts lyrisches Werk verwebt zahlreiche Sprachen und Kulturen, stieß mit seinem avantgardistischen Gestus beim Publikum jedoch auf Unverständnis. Diese Lyrik steht in ihrer Polyphonie und Hyperkulturalität, ihren kosmopolitischen Visionen in der deutschen Nachkriegszeit einzig da. Ihre engmaschige Intertextualität wurde von der Forschung bisher kaum untersucht. Dieses Desiderat wird mit der vorliegenden Studie behoben. The poet Rainer Maria Gerhardt (1927–1954), who died young, was a solitaire. At a time when West German literature was only hesitantly discovering the new, he revealed unknown horizons. His translations and publishing projects presented post-war Germans with poetry from all parts of the world. Gerhardt's lyrical work interweaves numerous languages and cultures, but its avant-garde style met with incomprehension from the public. In its polyphony and hyperculturality, its cosmopolitan visions, this poetry is unique in post-war Germany. Its close-knit intertextuality has hardly been analysed by researchers so far. This study remedies this desideratum.

    Klappentext: This collection of essays analyses the publication and reception history of sixteenth-century Iberian books of chivalry in English translation in early modern England. A comprehensive introduction explains the subject, its importance for the study of early modern fiction writing in general, and the state of Anglo-Spanish literary relations at the time. Various contributors consider the impact of the Iberian chivalric writing on other contemporary genres, such as native English romance, letter-writing, and chronicle, and explore the influence of translations in English prose fiction from the 1590s up to the mid-seventeenth century. The volume delves into Anthony Munday’s role in the literary book market, approaching some of his most representative translations – Amadis, Palmendos, Primaleon of Greece, and Palmerin of England – and examining the contribution of these works to early modern cultural debates on sexuality, marriage, female individualism, colonialism, and religious controversy

    Abstract This article analyzes Melekh Artus ( King Arthur ), a unique Hebrew translation of sections from the old French prose Merlin and mort Artu in the Lancelot-Grail cycle. Written in a single fragment from 1279 in northern Italy, this translation proves close Jewish engagement with old French texts. Through satirical biblical references and subtle critique of his material, the author reframes the Arthurian narrative to promote universal morals. Rather than Judaize the Arthurian canon and its Christian characters, he validates them as viable models for his Jewish audience.

    The study provides a close analysis of literary works by women in late-18<UP>th</UP>- and early-19<UP>th</UP>-century Russia, with a focus on Anna Naumova, Mariia Pospelova, and Mariia Bolotnikova. Political, social and feminist theories are applied to examine restrictions imposed on women. Women authors in particular were fettered by a culture of feminisation strongly influenced by the French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. As Sentimentalism and its aesthetics began to give way to Romantic ideals, some provincial Russian women writers saw an opportunity to claim social equality, and to challenge traditional concepts of authorship and a view of women as mute and passive.
