Während ein Großteil der Dominanzgesellschaft diese rassistische Praxis als normal empfindet, sind immer mehr betroffene Menschen nicht mehr bereit, sie widerstandslos zu akzeptieren.
    Der Band versammelt wissenschaftliche, künstlerische und aktivistische Beiträge zu den gesellschaftlichen Hintergründen und Wirkungsweisen von Racial Profiling und den Möglichkeiten eines intersektionalen antirassistischen Widerstands. Dabei liegt der Fokus auf der Schweiz, ergänzt durch Perspektiven von Autor*innen, die mit dem deutschen Kontext vertraut sind.

    This paper evaluates the effect on crime of creating a fundamental modern-day institution: centralized professional police forces tasked with preventing crime. We study the 1829 formation of the London Metropolitan Police - the first professional force worldwide. Using newly digitized and geocoded crime and police data together with difference-indifferences and pre-post designs, we find evidence of a significant reduction in violent crimes (despite the possibility of off-setting increases in clearance and reporting rates). In contrast, a reduction in property crime is not visible.

    Was ist interkulturell an interkulturellen Trainings? Auf Basis theoretischer Debatten um soziales Wissen, Sprache, Diskurs und Rassismuskritik stellt die empirische Studie die Frage, in welcher Weise sich rassismuskritisch aufklärbare Wissensordnungen im Sprechen von Polizist*innen nach der Teilnahme an Schulungen zur Förderung interkultureller Kompetenz zeigen. Es wird deutlich, dass das Interkulturelle in den Trainings einerseits als Chiffre für migrationsgesellschaftliche Verhältnisse, andererseits als Möglichkeitsraum zur (Re-)Produktion und Verfestigung von Wissen fungiert, das kulturrassistisch kodierte Themen und Figuren aufruft. What is intercultural about intercultural training? On the basis of theoretical debates about social knowledge, language, discourse and the critique of racism, the empirical study asks in what way racism-critical knowledge orders show up in the speech of police officers after participating in trainings to promote intercultural competence. It becomes clear that the intercultural in the trainings functions on the one hand as a cipher for migration-society relations, and on the other hand as a space of possibility for the (re)production and consolidation of knowledge relevant to the critique of racism.

    This paper develops a dynamic life-cycle equilibrium model of crime with hetero-geneous agents and human capital accumulation. Agents decide at each point in time whether to commit crimes by comparing potential gains from crime to the expected cost of punishment (determined from the probability of apprehension, the utility cost of incarceration, and reduced future wages in the legal labor market). Public security policies are defined as pairs of a size of the police force and an average length of sentences. We propose an original micro-founded police production function linking the level of police expenditures to the probability of apprehension. The structural model, estimated using 2000s US data and causal parameters from the empirical literature, allows us to evaluate the global optimality of policies in a way that would not be possible with reduced form estimates or traditional partial equilibrium, static models of crime. Equilibrium effects can be particularly relevant when studying crime, given the interactions across individuals' decisions and policies. We also extend the model to include investments in schooling and explore the potential complementarities across public security and educational policies.

    Crime dystopia is the cultural site where some of the most gripping fears around the failure to order, civilise and make life secure are expressed. In The Purge film franchise, crime becomes legal in America for a night each year, when violence and destructive impulses are freely discharged and actively encouraged by the US government. This article proposes a critical discussion of some of the criminological themes in the films, reading the institutionalised carnage of Purge night as a metaphor for the systemic violence of the market and further on for liberal governance as a philosophy of war, scarred by the horror of hidden monsters. It then argues that dystopian aesthetics can obscure the failures and antagonisms of the social order in the present, as well as punctuate anti-utopian fears of the future.

What is intercultural about intercultural training? On the basis of theoretical debates about social knowledge, language, discourse and the critique of racism, the empirical study asks in what way racism-critical knowledge orders show up in the speech of police officers after participating in trainings to promote intercultural competence. It becomes clear that the intercultural in the trainings functions on the one hand as a cipher for migration-society relations, and on the other hand as a space of possibility for the (re)production and consolidation of knowledge relevant to the critique of racism

    Was ist interkulturell an interkulturellen Trainings? Auf Basis theoretischer Debatten um soziales Wissen, Sprache, Diskurs und Rassismuskritik stellt die empirische Studie die Frage, in welcher Weise sich rassismuskritisch aufklärbare Wissensordnungen im Sprechen von Polizistinnen nach der Teilnahme an Schulungen zur Förderung interkultureller Kompetenz zeigen. Es wird deutlich, dass das Interkulturelle in den Trainings einerseits als Chiffre für migrationsgesellschaftliche Verhältnisse, andererseits als Möglichkeitsraum zur (Re-)Produktion und Verfestigung von Wissen fungiert, das kulturrassistisch kodierte Themen und Figuren aufruft.
