Technological change is a central feature of modern societies and a powerful source for social change. There is an urgent task to direct these new technologies towards sustainability, but society lacks perspectives, instruments and policies to accomplish this. There is no blueprint for a sustainable future, and it is necessary to experiment with alternative paths that seem promising. Various new transport technologies promise to bring sustainability benefits. But as this book shows, important lessons are often overlooked because the experiments are not designed to challenge the basic assumptions about established patterns of transport choices. Learning how to organise the process of innovation implementation is essential if the maximum impact is to be achieved - it is here that strategic niche management offers new perspectives. The book uses a series of eight recent experiments with electric vehicles, carsharing schemes, bicycle pools and fleet management to illustrate the means by which technological change must be closely linked to social change if successful implementation is to take place. The basic divide between proponents of technological fixes and those in favour of behavioural change needs to be bridged, perhaps indicating a third way.

This paper empirically examines how the opening of K-12 schools and colleges is associated with the spread of COVID-19 using county-level panel data in the United States. Using data on foot traffic and K-12 school opening plans, we analyze how an increase in visits to schools and opening schools with different teaching methods (in-person, hybrid, and remote) is related to the 2-weeks forward growth rate of confirmed COVID-19 cases. Our debiased panel data regression analysis with a set of county dummies, interactions of state and week dummies, and other controls shows that an increase in visits to both K-12 schools and colleges is associated with a subsequent increase in case growth rates. The estimates indicate that fully opening K-12 schools with in-person learning is associated with a 5 (SE = 2) percentage points increase in the growth rate of cases. We also find that the positive association of K-12 school visits or in-person school openings with case growth is stronger for counties that do not require staff to wear masks at schools. These results have a causal interpretation in a structural model with unobserved county and time confounders. Sensitivity analysis shows that the baseline results are robust to timing assumptions and alternative specifications.

The collection of requirements in the project is common practice. However, the requirements check serves the structured analysis and presentation of the requirements for project management in SMEs. Whether classical, agile or hybrid project management is applied is thus no longer a subjective assessment of individuals. The aim is to select the right method and provide targeted support to the project team in order to professionalize project management. Project management in small and medium-sized SMEs must not be bulky, but must adapt standards, best practices and methods to the company and must remain practicable but secure. Likewise, the usually very scarce resources must be taken into account. Whether classic, agile or hybrid project management: The authors believe that the choice can be narrowed down on the basis of clear criteria. It is not a question of taste or trend, but of requirements! Project management is not an end in itself. Determining the requirements internal and external to the organization is the first step before project management is structured. A project has certain characteristics that must be taken into account and phases in which certain activities must take place. Projects can also be categorized to determine the right approach, the stakeholders involved and therefore the right requirements. Any SME can very efficiently approach the right choice of approach in a structured way using the described procedure, select the appropriate methods at the critical points in project management and thus support the project team in a targeted manner.
