    Campus Medius erforscht und erweitert die Möglichkeiten der digitalen Kartografie in den Kultur- und Medienwissenschaften. Simon Ganahl dokumentiert die Entwicklung des Projekts von einer historischen Fallstudie zur Mapping-Plattform. Ausgehend von der Frage, was eine mediale Erfahrung ist, werden die Konzepte des Dispositivs und des Akteur-Netzwerks in ein Datenmodell übersetzt. Als Labor dient ein Zeit-Raum von 24 Stunden im Mai 1933 in Wien, der von einer austrofaschistischen »Türkenbefreiungsfeier« geprägt ist. Diese Massenkundgebung wird multiperspektivisch kartografiert und in medienhistorische Netzwerke eingeflochten, die sich vom 17. Jahrhundert bis in unsere Gegenwart aufspannen.

    Campus Medius explores and expands the possibilities of digital cartography in cultural and media studies. Simon Ganahl documents the development of the project from a historical case study to a mapping platform. Based on the question of what a media experience is, the concepts of the apparatus (dispositif) and the actor-network are translated into a data model. A time-space of twenty-four hours in Vienna in May 1933, marked by a so-called »Turks Deliverance Celebration« (Türkenbefreiungsfeier), serves as an empirical laboratory. This Austrofascist rally is mapped from multiple perspectives and woven into media-historical networks, spanning from the seventeenth century up to the present day.

Dass sie nach 1933 die Sehnsucht ihrer Zeitgenossen nach einer »Weltanschauung« immer ernster nahmen, hat die Nachgeborenen nicht selten irritiert. Doch bezeugt noch heute ihr »Weltanschauungsroman 2. Based on the question what a media experience is, the concepts of the apparatus (dispositif) and the actor-network are translated into a data model. A time-space of 24 hours in Vienna in May 1933, marked by a so-called »Turks Deliverance Celebration« (Türkenbefreiungsfeier), serves as an empirical laboratory. This Austrofascist rally is mapped from multiple perspectives and weaved into media-historical networks, spanning from the seventeenth century up to the present day.

    Between the world wars, Robert Musil and Hermann Broch replied to an era of catastrophes, which they brought close to their bodies with their protagonists, who were entangled in ideological salvation hopes: a pathogenesis of the bourgeois world for the 1930s. The fact that after 1933 they took their contemporaries' longing for a "world view" more and more seriously has often irritated the newborn. However, her »2nd order world view novel«, which is being unfolded here for the first time, still testifies to the enormous historical project of engaging with the language of the time and tracking down its most fatal tendencies with literary empathy and critical distance. Robert Musil und Hermann Broch antworteten zwischen den Weltkriegen auf eine Epoche der Katastrophen, der sie mit ihren in weltanschauliche Erlösungshoffnungen verstrickten Protagonisten nah auf den Leib rückten: eine Pathogenese der bürgerlichen Welt für die 1930er Jahre. Dass sie nach 1933 die Sehnsucht ihrer Zeitgenossen nach einer »Weltanschauung« immer ernster nahmen, hat die Nachgeborenen nicht selten irritiert. Doch bezeugt noch heute ihr »Weltanschauungsroman 2.     The interdisciplinary volume offers methodologically innovative approaches to Austria's coping with issues of migration past and present. These essays show Austria's long history as a migration country. Austrians themselves have been on the move for the past 150 years to find new homes and build better lives. After the World War II the economy improved and prosperity set in, so Austrians tended to stay at home. Austria's growing prosperity made the country attractive to immigrants. After the war, tens of thousands of "ethnic Germans" expelled from Eastern Europe settled in Austria. Starting in the 1950s "victims of the Cold War" (Hungary, Czechs and Slovaks) began looking for political asylum in Austria. Since the 1960s Austria has been recruiting a growing number of "guest workers" from Turkey and Yugoslavia to make up the labor missing in the industrial and service economies. Recently, refugees from the arc of crisis from Afghanistan to Syria to Somalia have braved perilous journeys to build new lives in a more peaceful and prosperous Europe. Der interdisziplinäre Band bietet methodisch neue Ansätze zum Thema Migration in Österreich. Die Aufsätze geben Einblick in Österreichs lange Geschichte als Migrationsland. Die Österreicher waren selbst über 150 Jahre lang auf der Suche nach einer neuen Heimat und einem besseren Leben. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg verbesserte sich die Wirtschaft und der Wohlstand setzte ein, sodass die Österreicher dazu neigten, im eigenen Land zu bleiben. Und Österreichs wachsender Wohlstand machte das Land für Immigranten attraktiv. Nach dem Krieg haben sich Zehntausende von „Volksdeutschen“ in Österreich niedergelassen, die aus Osteuropa vertrieben wurden. In den 1950er Jahren begannen die „Opfer des Kalten Krieges“ (Ungarn, Tschechen und Slowaken) in Österreich um politisches Asyl anzusuchen. Um die im Dienstleistungs- und Industriebereich fehlenden Arbeiter zu ersetzen, rekrutierte Österreich seit den 1960er Jahren eine wachsende Zahl von „Gastarbeitern“ aus der Türkei und Jugoslawien. In jüngster Zeit nehmen Flüchtlinge aus den Krisengebieten von Afghanistan, Syrien und Somalia gefährliche Routen, um sich ein neues Leben in einem friedlichen und wohlhabenden Europa aufzubauen.

    Joseph Lanner (1801-18439 is one of the most important and outstanding composers of dance music in the so called "Biedermeier" (the period after the "Wiener Kongress", 1st half of the 19th century). He invented the form of the Viennese waltz and founded a tradition, which was successfully carried on by the Strauß-family. Although Lanner wrote more than three hundred compositions until now there is no list of works existing, which describes the existing sources. After more than five years of recherché this list of works is now completed.

     

    The first part gives an introduction and describes some of the attributes of Lanners compositions. A short biography is followed by chapters about the development of dance in Vienna at the beginning of the 19th century, a list of other dance music composers of that time, an overview of the forms Lanner used in his dances, but also specific themes such as instrumentation, a list of the most important halls where Lanner performed e.g.

     

    The second part is the list of works, ordered by works with Opus-number and works without. For every composition the user will find full information's about the instruments which are required in the composition, the existing editions including autographs, copies and music in print (as well as information's in which Viennese libraries these scores are available), information's about first performances and the person to whom the dance was dedicated, and references of newspapers or books in which the work is mentioned.

     

    At the beginning there are the incipients printed (for Ländler and waltz including first and second theme), which allows musicians all over the world to recognize a certain dance by the melody.

     

    In the appendices all works are listed once more by alphabetical order, furthermore you will find a list of all persons to whom a dance was dedicated and a short list of works of Lanners son, August.

     

    This list of works of the compositions of Lanner fulfils all criteria a modern list of works requires. Joseph Lanner (1801-1843) zählt zu den bedeutendsten Tanzmusikkomponisten des Biedermeiers, er gilt als der Vater des "Wiener Walzers", damit schuf er eine Tradition, auf der vor allem die Strauß-Söhne aufbauen konnten. Obwohl Lanner weit über dreihundert Kompositionen schuf, existiert bis heute kein wissenschaftliches Werkverzeichnis, welches seine zahlreichen Tänze und Bearbeitungen auflistet und mit den Mittel quellenkritischer Forschung dem Benutzer aufbereitet. Diese Lücke konnte - nach über fünfjähriger Recherchetätigkeit - mit dem vorliegenden Werk geschlossen werden.

    Im ersten Teil wird eine ausführliche Einleitung in die besonderen Eigenheiten der Lannerschen Kompositionen geboten. Nach einem kurz gehaltenen biographischen Überblick folgen wichtige fachspezifische Erläuterungen zu den Themen "Entwicklung des Gesellschaftstanzes in Wien", ein Überblick über die zeitgleich mit Lanner wirkenden Tanzkomponisten, eine Besprechung der von Lanner verwendeten Tanzformen, aber auch Auflistungen der wichtigsten Tanzlokale, in denen Lanner wirkte, diese werden ergänzt durch praktische Hinweise zu den Instrumenten, die Lanner verwendete, zu seinen Konzertauftritten, aber auch zu musikästhetischen Fragestellungen, welche sich in Zusammenhang mit seinem umfangreichen Oeuvre ergeben.

    Es folgt - in zwei Teilen - das eigentliche Werkverzeichnis. Im ersten Teil werden die gedruckten Werke mit Opuszahl, im zweiten alle weiteren Werke beschrieben. Neben den unerlässlichen Quellenhinweisen zu den vorhandenen Materialien inklusive Bibliothekssignaturen der Wiener Musiksammlungen werden alle historischen Ausgaben - vom Autograph bis zu den mannigfachen Bearbeitungen - mit Datums- und Titelangabe angeführt, hinzu kommen Datierungen der Entstehung und der ersten Aufführungen. Literaturangaben (auch der wichtigsten Wiener Zeitungen) beschließen die einzelnen Werkauflistungen. Jedes Werk ist zudem über Incipits auch dem Musiker, welcher bestimmte Themen und Melodien sucht, erschlossen. Für alle Tänze und Bearbeitungen werden die relevanten Notenincipits am Beginn angegeben. Eine genaue Besetzungsliste der verwendeten Instrumente erlaubt Dirigenten und Tanzmusikorchestern einen raschen Überblick über die Erfordernisse einer Aufführung.

    Der Anhang bietet neben einer alphabetischen Auflistung aller Werke weitere praktische Informationen, u.a. eine Liste aller Widmungsträger sowie in Kurzform eine Auflistung der Werke von Joseph Lanners Sohn, August. Alle für den Leser erforderlichen Erläuterungen zur Benutzung (inklusive Abkürzungen etc.) sind vorhanden, so dass das vorliegende Werkverzeichnis alle seitens der Musikwissenschaft geforderten Kriterien erfüllt.

    With famous music manuscripts such as the St Emmeram codex or the Trent codices and the rise of a musical elite with singer-composers around Dufay and Binchois, the years around 1430 belong to a crucial period in late-medieval music history. The present volume comprises 13 case studies on polyphonic as well as monophonic repertories with a particular focus on the city of Vienna. For the first time, the ‘simultaneity’ of ‘non-simultaneous’ phenomena is scrutinized for Central Europe and for the cultural exchange with neighbouring territories of the Holy Roman Empire, of England, Bohemia and Northern Italy.Due to its specific urban profile and the geographical position, late-medieval Vienna offers an excellent starting point for the study of musical repertories in Central Europe and their appropriation as cultural practice in the first half of the fifteenth century. The ‘simultaneity’ of ‘non-simultaneous’ phenomena is closely connected to the coexistence of different patterns of music patronage within court and nobility, the university, a variety of ecclesiastical institutions (among them the collegiate church of All Saints, later St Stephen’s Cathedral), and diverse strands of upper- and middle-class citizens on the one hand, cultural exchange with neighbouring territories of the Holy Roman Empire, of England, Bohemia and Northern Italy on the other. Manifold strands of polyphonic and monophonic repertories (both sacred and profane), compositional techniques, regionally bound stylistic peculiarities, strategems of music patronage, institutional (or even personal) collectionism, furthermore aspects of music iconography and the role of music within the history of ideas are scrutinized in thirteen chapters, which are conceived as case-studies, plus a detailed thematical introduction. In sum, this is an invaluable contribution to a better understanding of a crucial period of late-medieval music history. Mit berühmten Repertoire-Handschriften wie dem Mensuralcodex St. Emmeram oder den Trienter Codices und der Entstehung einer musikalischen Elite um Sängerkomponisten wie Dufay und Binchois gehören die Jahrzehnte um 1430 zu einer Schlüsselphase der abendländischen Musikgeschichte. Der Band vereint 13 Fallstudien zur polyphonen Kunstmusik sowie zum einstimmigen Lied, wobei ein besonderer Fokus auf den Verhältnissen in Wien liegt. The essays in this book contribute ideas, facts and images that will draw the twenty-first-century reader closer to the events of Central Europe in the late eighteenth century, and these new facts and ideas will help peel off some of the transmitted accretions that may hinder a modern listener from enjoying and understanding the opera in all its fullness.     veered towards ‘serious’ or experimental music. This also refers to Peter Rehberg

    and Christian Fennesz. However, they differ from those considered previously,

    because unlike them, they did not cross the boundary between the popular and

    academic now and then but made it their personal signature. Their music also

    challenges our concept of electronic music, as well as studio and stage and even

    music and non-music. To contextualise their work, it is worth locating it first

    against the concept of ‘noise music’ or rather ‘noise as music’.

    When Cruise , the film whose dialogue I used as an epigraph for this chapter, was

    released in 1970, these words were seen as capturing Polish inability to move

    beyond the safe zone of a well-known repertoire of images, melodies and symbols.

    Austrians allegedly are also stuck in the past (see Chapter 1 ). This would

    explain Kruder and Dorfmeister’s penchant for making capital from our pleasure

    of listening to melodies we already know, if not for the fact that they gained fame

    not from capitalising on Vienna’s music history but remixing songs coming from

    the Anglo-American centre of popular music, such as those by Depeche Mode,

    Madonna and David Holmes. Theirs is thus an interesting case of colonisation,

    which includes self-colonisation and reverse colonisation: taking something from

    the centre, reworking it and returning to the centre an improved version. Depending

    on the perspective, their productions can be seen as proof of the hegemony of

    the centre or a sign that the periphery can not only resist the centre’s power but

    also penetrate it on its own terms. Equally, they can be seen as a sign of the end of

    authenticity and originality in popular music (and art at large) in the postmodern

    era or a need to rework these concepts to fit the art of creative recycling.

    This book results from Robert Klugseder’s discovery of new fragments in Vienna (Fragm. 661) and Margaret Bent’s recognition that they belonged to the same original manuscript as a set of fragments in Munich (Mus. Ms. 3224, Aalready known). Together they make a torso of 12 leaves with 20 compositions, nearly half of which are unique, an important complement to the already-known Veneto manuscripts of international repertory of the first half of the 15th century. A high-quality colour facsimile of these leaves, together with associated fragmentary survivals, is preceded by an in-depth codicological and repertorial study in German and English.
