    Das Buch bringt den Lesenden Zwei- und Mehrsprachigkeit als Normalität in Bildungsinstitutionen nahe. Bislang wird die migrationsbedingte mehrsprachige familiale Alltagspraxis von Kindern und Jugendlichen als Abweichung von einer monolingualen Norm betrachtet. Zwar ist die Förderung von Mehrsprachigkeit in Schulen und Kitas ein explizites sprachenpolitisches Ziel der EU, die national verfassten Bildungssysteme haben aber bis heute weder in Bildungsempfehlungen für Kitas noch in schulischen Lehrplänen auf diese Realität adäquat reagiert. Dieses Buch zielt darauf ab, individuelle und gesellschaftliche Zwei- und Mehrsprachigkeit als Herausforderung von Bildungsinstitutionen zu deuten. Es sensibilisiert pädagogische Fach- und Lehrkräfte für diese Anforderungen und vermittelt ihnen wichtige Grundlagen und relevante Forschungsergebnisse aus Linguistik, Pädagogik und Didaktik.

    This book contributes to the growing field of foreign language teaching and testing by shedding light on mediation between languages. Stathopoulou offers an empirically-grounded definition of mediation as a form of translanguaging and offers tools and methods for further research in multilingual testing. The book explores what cross-language mediation entails, what processes and strategies are involved, and the challenges often faced by mediators. As well as stressing the importance of administering tests which favour cross-language mediation practices, the author encourages the implementation of language programmes which promote the mingling-of-languages idea and target the development of language learners’ effective translanguaging practices.     This book examines translanguaging in higher education and provides clear examples of what translanguaging looks like in practice in particular contexts around the world. While higher education has historically been seen as a monolingual space, the case studies from the international contexts included in this collection show us that institutions of higher education are often translingual spaces that reflect the multilingual environments in which they exist. Chapters demonstrate how the use of translanguaging practices within the context of global higher education, where English plays an increasingly important role, allows students and professors to build on their linguistic repertoires to more efficiently and effectively learn content. The documentation of such practices within the context of higher education will further legitimatize translanguaging practices and may lead to their increased use not only in higher education but also in both primary and secondary schools

    "This volume examines the ways in which multilingual women authors incorporate several languages into their life writing. It compares the work of six contemporary authors who write predominantly in French. It analyses the narrative strategies they develop to incorporate more than one language into their life writing: French and English, French and Creole, or French and German, for example. The book demonstrates how women writers transform languages to invent new linguistic formations and how they create new formulations of subjectivity within their self-narrative. It intervenes in current debates over global literature, national literatures and translingual and transnational writing, which constitute major areas of research in literary and cultural studies. It also contributes to debates in linguistics through its theoretical framework of translanguaging. It argues that multilingual authors create new paradigms for life writing and that they question our understanding of categories such as "French literature.""--

    Das Buch bringt den Lesenden Zwei- und Mehrsprachigkeit als Normalität in Bildungsinstitutionen nahe. Bislang wird die migrationsbedingte mehrsprachige familiale Alltagspraxis von Kindern und Jugendlichen als Abweichung von einer monolingualen Norm betrachtet. Zwar ist die Förderung von Mehrsprachigkeit in Schulen und Kitas ein explizites sprachenpolitisches Ziel der EU, die national verfassten Bildungssysteme haben aber bis heute weder in Bildungsempfehlungen für Kitas noch in schulischen Lehrplänen auf diese Realität adäquat reagiert. Dieses Buch zielt darauf ab, individuelle und gesellschaftliche Zwei- und Mehrsprachigkeit als Herausforderung von Bildungsinstitutionen zu deuten. Es sensibilisiert pädagogische Fach- und Lehrkräfte für diese Anforderungen und vermittelt ihnen wichtige Grundlagen und relevante Forschungsergebnisse aus Linguistik, Pädagogik und Didaktik.

    This book contributes to the growing field of foreign language teaching and testing by shedding light on mediation between languages. Stathopoulou offers an empirically-grounded definition of mediation as a form of translanguaging and offers tools and methods for further research in multilingual testing. The book explores what cross-language mediation entails, what processes and strategies are involved, and the challenges often faced by mediators. As well as stressing the importance of administering tests which favour cross-language mediation practices, the author encourages the implementation of language programmes which promote the mingling-of-languages idea and target the development of language learners’ effective translanguaging practices.     This book examines translanguaging in higher education and provides clear examples of what translanguaging looks like in practice in particular contexts around the world. While higher education has historically been seen as a monolingual space, the case studies from the international contexts included in this collection show us that institutions of higher education are often translingual spaces that reflect the multilingual environments in which they exist. Chapters demonstrate how the use of translanguaging practices within the context of global higher education, where English plays an increasingly important role, allows students and professors to build on their linguistic repertoires to more efficiently and effectively learn content. The documentation of such practices within the context of higher education will further legitimatize translanguaging practices and may lead to their increased use not only in higher education but also in both primary and secondary schools
