    Il volume esplora l’universo iconografico della montagna attraverso le opere di quattro grandi maestri della fotografia: Vittorio Sella, Martin Chambi, Ansel Adams, Axel Hütte. Il racconto della montagna presenta il fotografo americano e ambientalista convinto Ansel Adams, con le sue celebri fotografie in bianco e nero di paesaggi dei parchi nazionali americani, veri e propri totem del Novecento; il peruviano Martin Chambi, uno dei primi importanti fotografi indigeni del Sudamerica, con le Ande specchio di documentazione etnografica e storica; Vittorio Sella, uno dei più straordinari fotografi della montagna, attivo tra gli ultimi decenni dell’Ottocento e i primi del secolo scorso nelle Alpi, in Asia, Africa e America del Nord. E infine, un portfolio originale sulle Alpi bresciane, commissionato da Fondazione Brescia Musei e realizzato da Axel Hütte, tra i più importanti rappresentanti della fotografia tedesca contemporanea. Le fotografie riunite in Luce della Montagna colpiscono per la bellezza delle vedute, oltre che per la tecnica unita alla sensibilità del fotografo che determina la riuscita non solo documentaristica, ma anche estetica delle immagini

    Vittorio Sella (1859-1943) was the foremost mountaineering photographer of the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries, producing widely celebrated images of K2 and other famed peaks. Sir Wilfred Thesiger (1910-2003) was a writer, photographer, and explorer, whose greatest journey took him across the Rub' al Khali, a vast desert encompassing much of the Arabian Peninsula. In his new book, Roger Hartl considers these two far-flung figures side by side, telling the stories of two influential explorers through their bibliographic and photographic work, and creating a tapestry where exploration, writing, and image-making all conjoin.
