    »Da muss ich noch an mir arbeiten!« Doch an was genau wollen wir eigentlich arbeiten, wenn wir solche Vorsätze postulieren? Eva Georg liefert hierzu eine Analyse der Konstitution des (neo-)liberalen Subjekts im Kontext einer »Therapeutisierung der Gesellschaft«. Unter Bezugnahme auf Michel Foucault, die Quantenphysikerin Karen Barad und die buddhistische Philosophie nimmt sie eine Neuverhandlung der Frage nach der »Arbeit am Selbst« vor. Dabei adressiert sie ethische und feministische Debatten um die Relationalität von Subjektivität ebenso wie eine postkoloniale Perspektivierung westlicher Buddhismus-Rezeptionen - und liefert einen innovativen Beitrag für das noch junge Feld der Beratungswissenschaften, den Neuen Kritischen Materialismus sowie die Praxis von Psychotherapie, Beratung und Coaching.

Gender (representations) play(s) a critical role in works of literature, culture, and art, and focusing on gender is crucial to uncovering the anthropocentrism or androcentrism that may underlie the work and the times to which it belongs. While maintaining a solid literary emphasis, the ten chapters included in this volume focus on feminist debates about women, technology, and the body, on gender representation and the posthuman, on post-gender figurations, on gender and trans/post/humanism, biotechnology/biopolitics/bioethics, on feminist posthumanism, on animals, the human-machine, and ecological posthumanism. The aim of the volume is to analyse how useful these concepts may be for thinking about the subject, its definition and identity in a changing society.     Il existe de nombreuses raisons pour lesquelles nous pourrions penser que l’espèce humaine pourrait être en danger. On parle du réchauffement climatique qui produit d’importantes catastrophes naturelles inhabituelles ; d’armes de plus en plus destructrices ; d’attentats terroristes graves avec des armes chimiques, etc. Mais on ne peut ignorer l’une des menaces qui pèsent sur l’espèce humaine, qui est le transhumanisme ou le posthumanisme. C’est du point de vue de ce dernier sujet, sur lequel on a déjà beaucoup écrit, que nous essaierons d’axer notre analyse, en accordant une attention particulière à la question relative à l’édition de gènes (CRISPR/Cas 9). There are many reasons why we might think that the human species might be in danger. We talk about global warming which produces major unusual natural disasters; increasingly destructive weapons; serious terrorist attacks with chemical weapons, etc. But we cannot ignore one of the threats hanging over the human species, which is transhumanism or posthumanism. It is from the point of view of this last subject, on which much has already been written, that we will try to focus our analysis, paying particular attention to the question relating to gene editing (CRISPR/Cas 9).

    Exterranean concerns the extraction of stuff from the Earth, a process in which matter goes from being sub- to exterranean. By opening up a rich archive of nonmodern texts and images from across Europe, this work offers a bracing riposte to several critical trends in ecological thought. By shifting emphasis from emission to extraction, Usher reorients our perspective away from Earthrise-like globes and shows what is gained by opening the planet to depths within. The book thus maps the material and immaterial connections between the Earth from which we extract, the human and nonhuman agents of extraction, and the extracted matter with which we live daily.Eschewing the self-congratulatory claims of posthumanism, Usher instead elaborates a productive tension between the materially-situated homo of nonmodern humanism and the abstract and aggregated anthropos of the Anthropocene. In dialogue with Michel Serres, Bruno Latour, and other interdisciplinary work in the environmental humanities, Usher shows what premodern material can offer to contemporary theory. Examining textual and visual culture alike, Usher explores works by Ronsard, Montaigne, and Rabelais, early scientific works by Paracelsus and others, as well as objects, engravings, buildings, and the Salt Mines of Wieliczka. Both historicist and speculative in approach, Exterranean lays the groundwork for a comparative ecocriticism that reaches across and untranslates theoretical affordances between periods and languages

Gender (representations) play(s) a critical role in works of literature, culture, and art, and focusing on gender is crucial to uncovering the anthropocentrism or androcentrism that may underlie the work and the times to which it belongs. While maintaining a solid literary emphasis, the ten chapters included in this volume focus on feminist debates about women, technology, and the body, on gender representation and the posthuman, on post-gender figurations, on gender and trans/post/humanism, biotechnology/biopolitics/bioethics, on feminist posthumanism, on animals, the human-machine, and ecological posthumanism.
