    Systematisches Philosophieren findet immer in einem historisch gewordenen gesellschaftlichen Kontext statt. Die Geltungsansprüche der Philosophie, dies gilt sowohl in ihren theoretischen als auch in ihren praktischen Disziplinen, reflektiert diese Kontextualität. Können aber – und wenn ja, in welcher Weise – damit noch universale Geltungsansprüche mit guten Gründen erhoben und verteidigt werden? Aktuelle Entwicklungen in der Wissenschaft (etwa die zunehmende Internationalität und Interdisziplinarität) bringen für die Philosophie Herausforderungen mit sich, die in Münster u.a. entlang dreier Fragestellungen behandelt wurden: – Erstens: Welche systematische Relevanz besitzt die deutsche Sprache als Wissenschaftssprache in der Philosophie? – Zweitens: Welche Funktion haben historische Positionen für die Beantwortung der systematischen Gegenwartsfragen der Philosophie und welche methodischen Zugriffe eröffnen den Zugang zu diesem systematischen Potential? – Drittens: Welche systematische Bedeutung haben zentrale Autoren und Traditionslinien der Deutschen Philosophie für die Beantwortung der Fragen der gegenwärtigen Philosophie?

    Das zentrale, in der Kantforschung nach wie vor umstrittene Problem der Struktur des ästhetischen Urteils wird kontrovers diskutiert und der, von Kant selbst so genannte, Schlüssel zur Kritik des Geschmacks in unterschiedlichen Kontexten erprobt. Die Autoren rücken auch weniger beachtete Einzelaspekte ins Licht und legen in facettenreichen Perspektiven sowohl für aktuelle kunst und literaturwissenschaftliche als auch für anthropologische Fragestellungen ertragreiche Ergebnisse ihrer Auseinandersetzung mit Kants Ästhetik vor. Forschungsberichte über neuere, zwischen 1990 und 1998 erschienene Studien und Sammelbände zur Ästhetik Kants runden den Band ab.

    Hegel and Schelling in Early Nineteenth-Century France is a two-volume work that documents the French reception of G. W. F. Hegel and F. W. J. Schelling from 1801 to 1848. It shows that the story of the "French Hegel" didn't begin with Wahl and Kojève by giving readers a solid understanding of the various ways in which German Idealism impacted nineteenth-century French philosophy, as well as providing the first ever English-language translations of excerpts from the most important philosophical texts of the era. Inside volume one, readers will find a number of interpretative frameworks to help them get to grips with this neglected field in the history of ideas. In addition to excerpted translations and a narrative of Hegel's and Schelling's fate in France during the early nineteenth century, this volume includes an introduction on transnational reception history, as well as an analytical catalogue of the translations of their work produced in French at this time, of the publications which appropriated or interrogated their philosophical legacy, and of the journals, institutional structures and other mechanisms of dissemination that brought Hegel's and Schelling's philosophy into France. The book thus details the ways in which French philosophers of the period took up the debates and concepts of German Idealism, transformed them or rejected them. In this way, it aims to contribute to a reversal of the serious neglect of early nineteenth-century French thought in English-language scholarship and, in so doing, goes beyond a nation-based narrative of the history of philosophy. Figures covered in the volumes include major philosophers such as Cousin, Leroux, Proudhon, Quinet, Ravaisson, Renouvier and Véra, as well as more neglected figures, like Barchou de Penhoën, Bénard, Lèbre, Lerminier, Pictet, and Willm

    Hegel and Schelling in Early Nineteenth-Century France is a two-volume work that documents the French reception of G. W. F. Hegel and F. W. J. Schelling from 1801 to 1848. It shows that the story of the "French Hegel" didn't begin with Wahl and Kojève by giving readers a solid understanding of the various ways in which German Idealism impacted nineteenth-century French philosophy, as well as providing the first ever English-language translations of excerpts from the most important philosophical texts of the era. Inside volume one, readers will find a number of interpretative frameworks to help them get to grips with this neglected field in the history of ideas. In addition to excerpted translations and a narrative of Hegel's and Schelling's fate in France during the early nineteenth century, this volume includes an introduction on transnational reception history, as well as an analytical catalogue of the translations of their work produced in French at this time, of the publications which appropriated or interrogated their philosophical legacy, and of the journals, institutional structures and other mechanisms of dissemination that brought Hegel's and Schelling's philosophy into France. The book thus details the ways in which French philosophers of the period took up the debates and concepts of German Idealism, transformed them or rejected them. In this way, it aims to contribute to a reversal of the serious neglect of early nineteenth-century French thought in English-language scholarship and, in so doing, goes beyond a nation-based narrative of the history of philosophy.     Tracing the notion of "the gift" in Nietzsche's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", Emilio Corriero provides a new interpretation of this essential text, alongside 'the gift's' evolution as a key concept in the history of western philosophy and Christianity. The last phase of Nietzsche's thought, including his writings on the death of God, "The Will to Power", the Overman, and eternal recurrence are analysed anew in Corriero's reading of "Thus Spoke Zarathustra". From Nietzsche's Prologue, in which Zarathustra presents the idea of the Overman as a gift of love and wisdom, up to the fourth and final book, in which the theme of hospitality and sacrifice are inextricably linked to the concept of donation, highlighting the novelty and exceptionality of Zarathustra's gift.     Hegel and Schelling in Early Nineteenth-Century France is a two-volume work that documents the French reception of G. W. F. Hegel and F. W. J. Schelling from 1801 to 1848. It shows that the story of the "French Hegel" didn't begin with Wahl and Kojève by giving readers a solid understanding of the various ways in which German Idealism impacted nineteenth-century French philosophy, as well as providing the first ever English-language translations of excerpts from the most important philosophical texts of the era. Inside volume one, readers will find a number of interpretative frameworks to help them get to grips with this neglected field in the history of ideas. In addition to excerpted translations and a narrative of Hegel's and Schelling's fate in France during the early nineteenth century, this volume includes an introduction on transnational reception history, as well as an analytical catalogue of the translations of their work produced in French at this time, of the publications which appropriated or interrogated their philosophical legacy, and of the journals, institutional structures and other mechanisms of dissemination that brought Hegel's and Schelling's philosophy into France. The book thus details the ways in which French philosophers of the period took up the debates and concepts of German Idealism, transformed them or rejected them. In this way, it aims to contribute to a reversal of the serious neglect of early nineteenth-century French thought in English-language scholarship and, in so doing, goes beyond a nation-based narrative of the history of philosophy. Figures covered in the volumes include major philosophers such as Cousin, Leroux, Proudhon, Quinet, Ravaisson, Renouvier and Véra, as well as more neglected figures, like Barchou de Penhoën, Bénard, Lèbre, Lerminier, Pictet, and Willm
