    Warum gehen manche Geschehnisse in die Geschichte einer Nation ein? Warum werden andere vergessen oder gar unterdrückt? Und wie und warum kommen diese wieder zum Vorschein?Susanne C. Knittel analysiert verdrängte Aspekte des Zweiten Weltkrieges und des Holocausts in den Erinnerungskulturen Deutschlands und Italiens nach 1945. Diese tauchen beharrlich auf und stören den dominanten Erinnerungsdiskurs, dessen Gedenkrituale und etablierte Vorstellungen: die NS-»Euthanasie« einerseits und die Verbrechen des italienischen Faschismus sowie die Kollaboration mit den deutschen Besatzern andererseits. Durch eine vergleichende Betrachtung von Gedenkstätten sowie künstlerischen und literarischen Darstellungen, die diesen Verbrechen und ihren Opfern gewidmet sind, entsteht ein zwiespältiges Porträt der Holocausterinnerung in Europa. Elisabeth Theisohn untermauert den musikpädagogischen Anspruch an das Komponieren in der Schule. Sie rekonstruiert kreatives Handeln und Lernen von Schüler*innen beim gemeinsamen Komponieren, das sich zwischen pragmatischer Aufgabenerledigung, Behauptungen des Eigenen und Kollaboration aufspannt.     In this groundbreaking study of Francophone Jewish poetry of the Shoah, Gary D. Mole engages with an extensive corpus of poetry by more than forty poets, all of whom were active after the war in France, Belgium, Switzerland, or Quebec but who came originally from Eastern Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East. Some were adolescents or adults during the war, either in hiding, interned or deported, first-hand witnesses to the Nazi persecution of European Jews. Others were hidden children, survivors writing of their buried traumatic experiences many years later. And a second-generation born after the war became postmemory proxy witnesses. Broadly chronological in approach, the book places the poetry in its various social, political, and historical contexts, underlines the specific geographical locations of the authors, and offers close thematic, formal, stylistic, and linguistic readings of the selected texts, highlighting some of the major aesthetic and ethical problems raised. Lucidly written, this book throws critical light, for scholars and nonspecialists, on a rich and unjustly neglected corpus, arguing convincingly for its inclusion in current debates on French-language literary representations of the Shoah and more widely in what is commonly referred to as "Holocaust Poetry.""Voices of Pain, Cries of Silence is a comprehensive, lucid, and erudite study of Francophone Jewish poetry of the Holocaust.     Incorporating digital tools into Religious Studies courses provides experiences and conditions that transform students into scholars. In this essay we discuss two courses we taught in conjunction with the Religious Soundmap Project of the Global Midwest, a collaborative digital humanities project that we co-directed from 2014 to 2016. Engaging students as contributors to a collaborative digital research project helped them to appreciate some of the key practical, theoretical, and ethical challenges that we face as scholars of religion. In particular, our work together brought to the fore critical questions about definition, classification, and representation. Even more, because they knew their work would be accessible to broader audiences outside the classroom, potentially including the very communities whom they were studying, students were able to perceive the stakes of these questions in ways we had not previously experienced. Incorporating digital tools enabled our students to see themselves as scholars of religion.
