The exhibition represents the mapping carried out by the Arkheia Documentation Center, MUAC-UNAM to generate a public repository around visualizations and HIV in Mexico. With the spread of the infection internationally, the virus became evident as a public health problem. In addition to being a medical and biological phenomenon, it represented a historical turning point at the end of the 20th century, as its circulation disrupted geographic, political, social, economic and cultural landscapes. Consisting of posters, artistic work, hemerography, event records and editorial projects, the exhibition brings together around 150 works that come from diverse artistic and documentary collections. Some of the participating artists are: Hilda Campillo, the Taller de Documentación Visual, Richard Moszka, Omar Gámez, Lorena Orozco, Óscar Sánchez Gómez, Armando Cristeto, Arturo Kemchs, Rolando de la Rosa, Hortensia Ramírez, José Antonio Cordero, Roberto de la Torre, Gabriel Figueroa Flores,19 Concreto, Grupo d3 Chok3 y Olivier Debroise, amongst others

Through captivating, three-dimensional portraits that reflect core aspects of each individual, artist Doug Meyer celebrates the lives and accomplishments of pioneers from the worlds of art, design, film, and dance ... In addition to honoring the individuals portrayed, Meyer hopes to highlight their contributions for younger generations. ... "Art AIDS America Chicago attempts to confront racial and gender bias by foregrounding female artists and artists of color, including Howardena Pindell, Daniel Sotomayor, William Downs, Ronald Lockett, Kia Labeija, and Willie Cole. In the new book, works by these artists and many others are illustrated in full color, as are images of performances and programs that took place during the Chicago exhibition. This book also inserts Chicago artists and activist activities into the wider history of AIDS activism and includes a comprehensive biographical essay on Chicago artist Roger Brown. Through this multifaceted and lively approach, Art AIDS America Chicago further explores the intersection of art and AIDS activism"--Amazon.com
