    Abstract: "While previous research on temporary employment has shown that certain labour market groups are more likely than others to enter this kind of inferior employment, there has been only little research on the question to what extent these allocation patterns have changed over time. Against the background of pervasive structural and institutional changes that affected the German labour market since the beginning of the 1990s there are reasons to believe that allocation patterns have changed as well. However, on a theoretical level there are different views regarding the quality of these changes. Whereas some scholars argue that social inequality is enhanced along the existing lines of social division, others maintain that risks are less and less socially structured. To evaluate this question empirically we use data from the German Mikrozensus for the period from 1989 to 2005.     Abstract: "This study offers a basis for understanding China's performance from a Latin American perspective, and stressing the massive economic opportunities and challenges, and particularly for Central America and Mexico. Moreover, the document assesses in detail the macroeconomic, trade and employment policy and institutional changes in China and its potential effects in Central America and Mexico. These effects are analyzed in the Chinese, Central American, Mexican and US market in general, but also for the value-added chains of electronics and yarn-textile-garment. The findings presented will be of value to all of those who are trying to understand and learn from the extraordinary experience of China over the last decades. Bibliographical references and statistical information allows for subsequent detailed analysis and specific forms of cooperation and preparation between the considered countries.     Abstract: "Das Konzept der Pfadabhängigkeit wird im Rahmen neo-institutionalistischer Analysen äußerst deterministisch verwendet. Daher haben Untersuchungen, die auf diesem Ansatz beruhen, Schwierigkeiten, Wandel zu erklären bzw. vorauszusagen. Das der Theorie der Pfadabhängigkeit zugrunde liegende Modell der Polya-Urne geht jedoch davon aus, dass verschiedene Pfade möglich sind. Es lässt sich zeigen, dass Akteure auf diese Pfade zurückzugreifen können, wenn sie Veränderungen für erforderlich halten. Das in diesem Discussion Paper verwandte Modell integriert einen Bayesschen Entscheidungsträger, der in Kenntnis der die Situation steuernden Parameter auf eine sich ändernde Umwelt reagiert. So kann untersucht werden, wie Wandel mit Prozessen wie den folgenden einhergehen kann: Verwendung früherer oder redundanter institutioneller Repertoires; Erfahrungstransfer über Handlungsräume hinweg; Erfahrungstransfer von anderen Akteuren und durch Netzwerke strukturierter Beziehungen; Entstehung von Pro

    Abstract: 'Im Zentrum der Abhandlung stehen Veränderungsprozesse, die das deutsche System der Corporate Governance in den vergangenen sieben Jahre transformiert haben. Es wird argumentiert, dass es sich in einem Prozess der Anpassung an das anglo-amerikanische System befindet und dass dieser Wandel die Wege strategischer Entscheidungsfindung in privatwirtschaftlichen Unternehmen fundamental beeinflusst. Die Veränderungen der Kapitalmärkte und die Durchsetzung des Shareholder-Value-Prinzips beeinflussen nicht nur große internationale Unternehmen, sondern greifen auch auf andere Teile der Wirtschaft durch. Diese Transformationen wirken sich sowohl auf der Ebene der Arbeitsbeziehungen als auch auf der Ebene der industriellen Beziehungen negativ aus und bedrohen das deutsche Modell diversifizierter und qualitativ hochwertiger Produktion.     Abstract: "Mit Bezug auf die Debatte um Varianten des Kapitalismus wird in diesem Papier die Shareholder-Value-Orientierung der 40 größten börsennotierten deutschen Aktiengesellschaften diskutiert. Es werden drei Dimensionen kapitalmarktorientierter Unternehmensführung unterschieden: die kommunikative Dimension, die operative Dimension und die Dimension der Managervergütung. Anhand von Daten zur Bilanzierung, zu den Investor Relations, zur Anreizkompatibilität der Managervergütung und zur Implementation von Rentabilitätszielen wird ein Share-holder-Value-Index konstruiert, der einen Vergleich der Kapitalmarktorientierung der betrachteten Unternehmen erlaubt. Zur Erklärung des Shareholder-Value-Phänomen werden zwei Cluster an Erklärungen präsentiert. Erstens wird das Ausmaß an Kapitalmarktorientierung auf den Grad an internationaler Konkurrenz auf den Produktmärkten, auf die zunehmende Handlungsfähigkeit der Kapitalmarktteilnehmer und den Druck des Markts für Unternehmenskontrolle zurückgefüh
