Zusammenfassung: "What do people in the United States and Europe think about the rich? There are several thousand books and articles on stereotypes and prejudices directed at minorities, women, the people of other nations, and even the poor. In contrast, there has only been sporadic research into stereotypes about the rich and no comprehensive, scientific study on this topic has yet been published-until now. What We Think When We Think about Wealth examines attitudes about wealth and the wealthy in four industrialized western countries: The United States, Great Britain, Germany, and France. Consisting of three parts, this book surveys the literature about stereotypes and prejudices; reports on original survey data, which used identical questions to survey residents of four countries regarding various aspects of their attitudes toward wealth; and examines the important role the media plays in forming opinions on wealth and the rich. This book aims to examine how we think about a minority that, while undeniably powerful, can still be the subject of negative stereotypes, prejudice, and scapegoating-often with dire effects for us all"--(Provided by publisher.)
