    Los índices de libros prohibidos fueron un instrumento capital de represión de la cultura escrita, pero no el único. Este volumen se propone llevar a cabo un acercamiento a la historia literaria española de los siglos XVI y XVII que atiende, sobre todo, al clima intelectual de recelo ante la lectura y a los modos de control de los manuscritos e impresos. Los estudios aquí reunidos evalúan el impacto censorio en los géneros más importantes de la literatura y el pensamiento áureos: en el teatro, el poema lírico, la ficción sentimental, la literatura obscena, la literatura espiritual, la historia general y la particular, y las formas de prosa doctrinal de principios del siglo XVII. Conciernen también a obras y autores imprescindicibles para la historia literaria española, desde Torres Naharro hasta Francisco de Quevedo, cuyos textos fueron transformados por la censura
