    This paper studies the impact of collaboration on research output. First, we build a micro-founded model for scientific knowledge production, where collaboration between researchers is represented by a bipartite network. The equilibrium of the game incorporates both the complementarity effect between collaborating researchers and the substitutability effect between concurrent projects of the same researcher. Next, we develop a Bayesian MCMC procedure to estimate the structural parameters, taking into account the endogenous matching of researchers and projects. Finally, we illustrate the empirical relevance of the model by analyzing the coauthorship network of economists registered in the RePEc Author Service.

    On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Gotthelf's death, the editors began on an historical-critical edition of the author's non-literary works, representing the first stage in the eventual historical-critical edition of Gotthelf's entire oeuvre. The editors have engaged in extensive consultations with experienced editing experts and Gotthelf specialists on the objective of editing and commenting on Gotthelf's complete works in their historical and political context, and on potential avenues to be explored toward the realization of this endeavor. The articles assembled here indicate new approaches to Gotthelf, whose experiences as a committed clergyman, school reformer, journalist, and contributor to religious almanacs all found their way into his narratives.

    Zusammenfassung: Technological progress in telecommunications and computer technologies has brought with it a digitalization that, nowadays, permeates almost all areas of human life. New data sources appear constantly, ranging from smart watches to household appliances to cars and other cyber-physical systems and new data is generated abundantly, in structured and unstructured form. Among the different classes of data, in particular personal data has emerged as a crucial source of innovation and value. Consequently, in the wake of this development, so-called data-centric business models have emerged. Companies pursuing these data-centric business models, such as Facebook or Google, rely almost exclusively on aggregation and analysis of personal data as income source.In data-centric business, however, a conflict between the benefits and threats associated with the collection and analysis of personal data comes to light.

Through the links in the collaboration network, researchers create spillovers not only to their direct coauthors but also to researchers indirectly linked to them. We characterize the equilibrium when agents collaborate in multiple and possibly overlapping projects. We bring our model to the data by analyzing the coauthorship network of economists registered in the RePEc Author Service. We rank the authors and research institutions according to their contribution to the aggregate research output and thus provide a novel ranking measure that explicitly takes into account the spillover effect generated in the coauthorship network. Moreover, we analyze funding instruments for individual researchers as well as research institutions and compare them with the economics funding program of the National Science Foundation. Our results indicate that, because current funding schemes do not take into account the availability of coauthorship network data, they are illdesigned to take advantage of the spillover effects generated in scientific knowledge production networks.

    We study the impact of loan regulation in rural India on child labor with an overlapping-generations model of formal and informal lending, human capital accumulation, adverse selection, and differentiated risk types. Specifically, we build a model economy that replicates the current outcome with a loan rate cap and no lender discrimination by risk using a survey of rural lenders. Households borrow primarily from informal moneylenders and use child labor. Removing the rate cap and allowing lender discrimination markedly increases capital use, eliminates child labor, and improves welfare of all household types. -- child labor ; India ; informal lending ; lending discrimination ; interest rate caps
