    The Israel-Palestine conflict bears the historical burden of two major forms of Western, and specifically European representations of the other; on the one hand the representation of an external Arab-Islamic Orient as a counterpart to Europe, and, on the other, the representation of the Jews as an internal European other... The author studies the representation of the Arab-Islamic world and Israel in a particular genre, namely, fictional bestsellers (Leon Uris: Exodus; The Hadj; Wilbur Smith: Eagle in the Sky; M. West: The Tower of Babel; K. Follett: Triple; C. Freeman: No Time for Tears; et al.) and deals with the interplay between stereotypical background assumptions with regard to the Arab-Islamic world and their transformation in fiction. (MERA)
