This study attempts to measure the strength of Çanakkale economy against local/national and global competition, by using the dynamic diamond approach developed by Porter (1990). Under this approach which takes different dimensions of the competitiveness into account, Çanakkale's economy is found to be competitive at the local/national level only to a modest degree, and not competitive on a global scale. Furthermore, the current degree of competitiveness turns out to be vulnerable to exogenous changes and is not likely to be maintained in the long-run, unless local policy makers take the necessary steps to increase the competitive power. -- Competitiveness of local economies ; Porter's model ; Competition at local and global scales
