    Main description: Johann von Würzburg's "Wilhelm von Österreich" is a late representative of the courtly romance. Here it receives attention for the first time against the background of its literary-historical context and in terms of its complexity as a genre hybrid. At a time when didactic minor epic poetry, allegory, and the historicalization of courtly literature were all coming to a head, Johann interwove and set off against one another motivic strains and structural elements of Minnerede, romance, and historiography. The author sets out to trace exactly how he did this and also to show the lengths gone to in the reception of his work in the 14th to 16th centuries, from the manuscript scribes all the way to Hans Sachs, to impose a more unified character on the work. The annex contains a hitherto unedited Minneklage (love plaint)

    Main description: Johanns von Würzburg späthöfischer Roman »Wilhelm von Österreich« wird hier erstmals in seinem literaturhistorischen Kontext und seiner Komplexität als Gattungshybrid betrachtet. Die Verfasserin untersucht, wie Johann in einer Zeit, als die didaktische Kleinepik, die Allegorie und die Historisierung der höfischen Dichtung ihren Höhepunkt erreichten, Motive und Strukturen der Minnerede, des Romans und der Geschichtsschreibung miteinander verbindet und konfrontiert. Sie zeigt auch, wie die Rezipienten des Werks im 14.-16. Jahrhundert, von den Schreibern der Handschriften bis hin zu Hans Sachs, bemüht waren, dem Werk einen einheitlicheren Charakter zu verleihen.     Main description: This study sets out to refute the traditional conception of Tuscan invective verse (so-called comic-realistic poetry) in the duecento as belonging to the middle or low style defined in the Artes poetriae from Galfrid to Dante. The subjects addressed and the rhetorical devices employed are impossible to square with the recommendations formulated in the poetics of the time. Nor can the comic passages of the »Commedia« be adequately described in these terms. A section on the productive reception accorded to these works investigates the influences of research paradigms on the description of invective poetry in historical novels and short stories

    The construction of a new Latin library between the end of the Republic and the Augustan Principate was anything but an inhibiting factor. The literary flourishing of the Flavian age shows that awareness of this canon rather stimulated creative tension. In the changing socio-cultural context, daring innovations transform the genres of poetry and prose. This volume, which collects papers by influential scholars of early Imperial literature, sheds light on the productive dynamics of the ancient genre system and can also offer insightful perspectives to a non-classicist readership

    Questions of genres as well as their possible definitions, taxonomies, and functions have been discussed since antiquity. Even though categories of genre today are far from being fixed, they have for decades been upheld without question. The goal of this volume is to problematize traditional definitions of poetic genres and to situate them in a broader socio-cultural, historical, and theoretical context. The contributions encompass numerous methodological approaches (including hermeneutics, poststructuralism, reception theory, cultural studies, gender studies), periods (Romanticism, Modernism, Postmodernism), genres (elegy, sonnet, visual poetry, performance poetry, hip hop) as well as languages and national literatures. From this interdisciplinary and multi-methodological perspective, genres, periods, languages, and literatures are put into fruitful dialogue, new perspectives are discovered, and suggestions for further research are provided
