Special Issue of German Quarterly: Affect, Agency, and the Environment (01.03.2023)
Affect, Agency, and the Environment
Call for article proposals for a Special Issue of German Quarterly
Abstracts due March 1, 2023.
Over the past few decades, environmental humanities and ecocriticism have comprised one of the most generative and far-reaching approaches within German studies. Landmark works have explored topics as diverse as plants, animals, disasters, pollution, topographies, and energies. This special issue aims not to represent the full scope of the field, but to explore one particularly critical nexus for addressing our global climate emergency. We invite considerations of the relationships between emotions and engagement, affect and agency, in human and non-human encounters from the pre-modern through contemporary periods. We are especially interested in articles that engage new theoretical approaches, apply transdisciplinary frameworks, and/or focus on environmental justice. We encourage submissions from emerging and established scholars and from underrepresented voices in German studies.
