    This Armenian Gospel Book with synopsis was artfully illuminated with four portraits of the Evangelists, vignettes, headpieces and either zoomorphic or anthropomorphic decorated initials. The miniatures on page 1-7 are added later from another hand. The manuscript is one of the highlights of the collection of 128 Armenian manuscripts held by Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. It was written, illuminated and bound in the Holy Saviour's Monastery of New Julfa, the Armenian suburb of the Persian capital Isfahan.
