With the Commentaria et Lexica Graeca in Papyris reperta, a unique papyrological collection is being published. The otherwise scattered publications of pieces of ancient Greek commentary written on papyrus - i.e. the hypomnemata and notes on Greek authors, glossaries and lexica - are brought together in alphabetical order in this lexicon. In addition to the fragments the lexicon provides the user with details of their place and date of origin, current location and of all publications about them to date (see sample page overleaf). These are followed by commentaries taking into account all available material, written in the language of the respective commentator. This work has been compiled by more than 40 scholars from different European and non-European countries. One or two instalments of 250 to 300 pages each are to be published every two years. The entire work, which will amount to some 15 instalments, is divided into four main parts: I: Commentaria et lexica in auctores; Pars II: Commentaria in adespota; Pars III: Lexica; Pars IV: Concordantiae et Indices. Papyri not published yet are reproduced in the appendix. Not only papyrologists will find an immeasurable fund of source material here; the CLGP will be an essential source of information for every larger classical studies library because of the Greek authors it covers, from Aeschylus to Thucydides.

"Every third year, the members of the International Association for Neo-Latin Studies (IANLS) assemble for a week-long conference. Over the years, this event has evolved into the largest single conference in the field of Neo-Latin studies. The papers presented at these conferences offer, then, a general overview of the current status of Neo-Latin research; its current trends, popular topics, and methodologies. In 2018, the members of IANLS gathered for a conference in Albacete (Spain) on the theme of "Humanity and Nature: Arts and Sciences in Neo-Latin Literature". This volume presents the conference's papers which were submitted after the event and which have undergone a peer-review process. The papers deal with a broad range of fields, including literature, history, philology, and religious studies"--

What is more, the only commented book of the Institutio oratoria that actually regards rhetoric is book III. The present commentary of book IX is therefore a long-awaited contribution to understanding Quintilian’s oeuvre. Within the wide section that Quintilian devotes to the elocutio, book IX presents significant elements of autonomy and offers the widest, most articulated and clearest treatment of the figurae, the conlocatio and the oratorical rhythm in antiquity. This book offers a new Latin text with numerous variants in comparison with previous editions, an Italian translation and a wide commentary concerning philological, linguistic and cultural aspects. In particular, the commentary, completed with a large number of cross references and a rich bibliography, addresses non-specialists of ancient rhetoric and aims to solve the intricate exegetical problems posed by Quintilian’s book.

In the poetic collection attributed to Claudian (IV-V cent. AD) and known to us by the spurious title of carmina minora three short hexametric poems present topics of the minutest doxography: in the carm. min. 9 Hystrix, 28 Nilus and 49 Torpedo, in fact, the late Latin poet’s curiosity about the mirabile by way of the description of a place (the Nile river) or an animal (the porcupine and the torpedo fish), and his attraction to the literature of the ‘paradox’ go together. In combining the essence of the epigram’s form with a supposedly didactic purpose, and by elevating zoological or geographical topics to the level of high literature, Claudian appears comfortable in creating a poetry which is free of empirical or scientific precision and has no intention of being educative, but simply wishes to share the wonderment at the bizarre aspects of reality. The Latin text is presented here in a new critical edition, accompanied by introduction, parallel translation in Italian and commentary.

In Poetry and Censorship Jennifer Helm offers insight into motives and strategies of Counter-Reformation censorship of poetry in Italy. Materials of Roman censorial authorities reveal why the control of poetry and of its reception was crucial to Counter-Reformation cultural politics. Censorship of poetry should enable the church to influence human inner life that ---from thought and belief to fantasy and feeling--- was evolving considerably at that time. The control of poetic genres and modes of writing played an important part here. Yet, to what extent censorship could affect poetic creation emerges from a manuscript of the Venetian poet Domenico Venier. The materials suggest the impact of Counter-Reformation censorship on poetry began earlier and was more extensive than has yet been propagated

The Epistula ex Ponto III 1 sums up the leitmotives of Ovid’s poetry of exile. This linguistic-philological commentary reveals intertextual connections with the author’s other writings, with the previous Latin love poetry as well as with the ways of Ciceronian and Horatian decorum.

This volume of the series «Fragmenta Comica» is devoted to one of the major names in the first generation of comic poets, Crates. Mentioned by Aristophanes in the Knights among his predecessors ill-treated by the public, and credited in Aristoteles’ Poetics of a key-role within the history of the comic genre, Crates appears to have received significant attention in antiquity. Yet tradition has not been kind with him and the remains of his production are very scanty and in many ways problematic. Almost half a century after the last monograph devoted to Crates, Serena Perrone offers a new close analysis of the testimonia and the sixty surviving fragments, translated and commented in detail. The picture that emerges is of a much more nuanced profile than previously described. ***Angaben zur beteiligten Person Perrone: Dr. Serena Perrone ist Professorin für Klassische Philologie an der Universität Genua, Italien.

A gripping essay on the role that Italian intellectuals played in the organization and scheduling of Swiss public radio between the Fascist period and the so-called Anni di Piombo (Years of Lead). The book

What was the role of Italian intellectuals in the history of Swiss radio broadcasting culture? And what images of Switzerland and Italy were conveyed between 1930 and 1980?

Ever since it began in the 1930s, Italian-language Swiss radio, a national public service broadcaster addressed to a linguistic minority, drew from intellectual resources external to its own political borders, a characteristic that contributed to defining its profile. During the Fascist period, for example, Italian intellectuals could express themselves from the microphones of this radio with a freedom that they were not allowed in their home country: Benedetto Croce’s 1936 speech is a memorable case in point. Subse-quently, when the interview and debate formats tended to undermine that of the radio lecture, journalists and writers such as Pier Paolo Pasolini and Eugenio Montale took advantage of the debating space that Swiss Italy offered them.

By analysing the written and audio sources, many of which unpublished, Nelly Valsangiacomo’s essay reconstructs a complex as well as fascinating radio broadcasting panorama, brought to life by the voices of some of the greatest Italian intellectuals, such as Elio Vittorini, Maria Corti, Indro Montanelli, and Dario Fo. Voices that can now be listened to once again thanks to a web page completing the book: www.rsi.ch/dietroalmicrofono (Radiotelevisione svizzera di lingua italiana/Italian-language Swiss Radio and Television) Qual è stato il ruolo degli intellettuali italiani nella storia della cultura radiofonica svizzera?

Writing Art is an attempt to respond to the possibilities of art, the potentialities in art, to the possible event that art is. Keeping in mind that events are always already potentially beyond us, are quite possibly unknown, unknowable. In this book, Jeremy Fernando meditates on art through a response to specifics works, to the specificity of the craft, tekhnē, of each work; offering a reading of specific works of photography (Photovoice sg), poetry (Tammy Ho Lai-Ming), installation art (Charles Lim), film (Tan Chui Mui), conceptual art (ZXEROKOOL), and charcoal drawings (Yanyun Chen). Through writing. For, to write is always also to scribble, to scratch, tear, quite possibly open — and perhaps more importantly, to open the possibility of a relation with another, to the unknowability that is the other. At the risk that this writing causes one to writhe, to be torn, to cry out; even if the very one is himself.
