Die Entwicklung des jungen Bert Brecht als Dramatiker wirft methodisch zwei Fragen auf, deren richtige Beantwortung die Voraussetzung dafür ist, daß es gelingt, Brechts Weg vom anarchisch-vitalistischen Dichter des "Baal" zum marxistischen Stückeschreiber der "Heiligen Johanna der Schlachthöfe" angemessen darzustellen: 1) Mit welchem Denkmodell soll man den Gegenstand ‚Entwicklung eines Dichters‘ begreifen? 2) Wie ist das Endergebnis des Entwicklungsganges – in diesem Fall die Einheit von Marxist und Poet – zu beurteilen? Es ist evident, daß die zweite Frage unmittelbar vom Standort des Interpreten abhängt: ein bürgerlicher Literaturhistoriker wird das Verhältnis von dichterischer Potenz und Marxismus bei Brecht anders bestimmen als ein Marxist. Doch auch die erste Frage nach dem angemessenen Denkmodell für Brechts Entwicklung ist positionsgebunden.
