    Abstract ; Autor und Werk wurden von Michel Foucault als eine »grundlegende Einheit« in der Literatur bezeichnet und stehen nach einer Krise wieder im Mittelpunkt der Forschung. Wie interagiert das Werk mit dem Autor / der Autorin? Wie wird es zu einem Schauplatz literarischer Wechselbeziehungen: zwischen Autor_innen und Leser_innen, zwischen Struktur und Prozess, zwischen Subjektivität, Medialität und Materialität der Literatur? Vorgeschlagen wird das Konzept eines dynamischen Kraftverhältnisses, das zwischen Konkurrenz und Interdependenz in seinem Vollzug oszilliert und als Modell an mehrere Wechselbeziehungen im Spannungsfeld um das literarische Werk angewandt werden kann.

In 18 chapters, this volume makes "prose" - an important but thus far insufficiently examined category of literary studies - the subject of historical, methodological, and theoretical investigations. ›Prosa‹ bezeichnet die ungebundene, von normativer Form weitestgehend freie Weise des Sprechens und Schreibens, die auf Grund ihrer formalen und inhaltlichen Offenheit ein breites Spektrum an Gestaltungsweisen zulässt. ›Prosa‹ ist so nicht allgemeinverbindlich zu definieren oder in einer geschlossenen ›Theorie der Prosa‹ zu erfassen, sie bedarf vielmehr einer offenen Theoriebildung, die von den kulturell und historisch konkretisierten Beispielen stets auch die Ergänzung und Präzisierung ihrer eigenen Ausgangsbestimmungen erwartet. ›Prosa‹ formiert so ein Arbeitsfeld, in dem das Verfahren der Textkonstitution als eine grammatische, rhetorische und poetologische Aufgabe verstanden wird, die gleichermaßen Pragmatiken der ›Sachprosa‹, realistische Romane und Prosaexperimente der Avantgarden betrifft. Etablierte Kategorien der Prosaanalyse wie ›Fiktionalität‹ und ›Narration‹ werden kritisch perspektiviert, und Fragen der Schreibweise, der Sequenzialität und der Konstruktion/Produktion treten in den Vordergrund. - Der vorliegende Band macht in 18 Beiträgen ›Prosa‹ als wichtige, bislang aber unzureichend reflektierte literaturwissenschaftliche Kategorie zum Gegenstand von historisch und methodisch-theoretisch ausgerichteten Untersuchungen.

    Dieses Buch verortet eine politische Dimension der Literatur auf der Formebene des Prosaschreibens: Die Prosa vermittelt zwischen künstlerischer und sozialer Rede sowie zwischen literarischen und politischen Ordnungsformen.Der erste Teil des Buches verfolgt Reflexionen über das Prosaschreiben in der russischen Literatur zwischen den 1820er Jahren und der Gegenwart, macht komparatistische Ausblicke und stellt fest: Mit dem Prosaschreiben wird immer wieder eine engagierte Haltung der Literatur innerhalb der Gesellschaft verbunden. Dieser historische Diskurs korrespondiert mit der theoretischen Tradition, ein ethisch-politisches Potenzial in der literarischen Prosaform zu erkennen (Jean-Paul Sartre, Roland Barthes, Michail Bachtin, Jacques Rancière). Im zweiten Teil des Buches wird durch Einzellektüren eine literarische Ästhetik des Widerspruchs herausgearbeitet, die mit dem politischen Konzept der Prosa zusammenhängt.

    The present volume is a pioneering collection of poetry by the outstanding Kenyan poet, intellectual and imam Ustadh Mahmmoud Mau (born 1952) from Lamu island, once an Indian Ocean hub, now on the edge of the nation state. By means of poetry in Arabic script, the poet raises his voice against social ills and injustices troubling his community on Lamu. The book situates Mahmoud Mau’s oeuvre within transoceanic exchanges of thoughts so characteristic of the Swahili coast. It shows how Swahili Indian Ocean intellectual history inhabits an individual biography and writings. Moreover, it also portrays a unique African Muslim thinker and his poetry in the local language, which has so often been neglected as major site for critical discourse in Islamic Africa. In 18 chapters, this volume makes "prose" - an important but thus far insufficiently examined category of literary studies - the subject of historical, methodological, and theoretical investigations ›Prosa‹ bezeichnet die ungebundene, von normativer Form weitestgehend freie Weise des Sprechens und Schreibens, die auf Grund ihrer formalen und inhaltlichen Offenheit ein breites Spektrum an Gestaltungsweisen zulässt. ›Prosa‹ ist so nicht allgemeinverbindlich zu definieren oder in einer geschlossenen ›Theorie der Prosa‹ zu erfassen, sie bedarf vielmehr einer offenen Theoriebildung, die von den kulturell und historisch konkretisierten Beispielen stets auch die Ergänzung und Präzisierung ihrer eigenen Ausgangsbestimmungen erwartet. ›Prosa‹ formiert so ein Arbeitsfeld, in dem das Verfahren der Textkonstitution als eine grammatische, rhetorische und poetologische Aufgabe verstanden wird, die gleichermaßen Pragmatiken der ›Sachprosa‹, realistische Romane und Prosaexperimente der Avantgarden betrifft.
