    The reading of Arnold Hauser's work, in particular his book "Der Manierismus", written in 1964, that deals with Spanish literature, allows us to overcome the usual classifications found in manuals of this area based only on chronological data. Hauser calls "Mannerism" the crisis of the Renaissance, distinguishing it from European Baroque movements. Some of the Spanish authors and their works from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries respond to the characteristics of Mannerism, if one takes into account their perspectivism, the presence of paradox, their cerebral construction, the discovery of the modern reader, their autonomy as literary works, the overcoming of the classical genders, the use of dialog, etc, and can, therefore, be seen as the basis of the literary Modernity. ; A leitura da obra de Arnold Hauser, particularmente de seu livro "Der Manierismus", de 1964, ao voltar-se para a história da literatura espanhola, nos permitiu superar as habituais catalogações embasadas apenas na cronologia, que predominam nos manuais dessa especialidade. Hauser chama de "Maneirismo" a crise da Renascença e distingue esse movimento dos Barrocos europeus. Alguns autores e obras espanholas dos séculos XVI e XVII, graças ao seu perspectivismo, à presença do paradoxo, à sua construção cerebral, à descoberta do leitor moderno, à sua autonomia como obras literárias, à superação dos gêneros clássicos, ao uso do diálogo, etc., respondem às características desse Maneirismo e, assim sendo, podem ser lidas como fundamentos da Modernidade literária.

    O texto investiga os sentidos do isolamento na lírica de Mascha Kaléko. Interessa à abordagem em particular os significados sociais no tratamento do tema da solidão em algumas composições reunidas no título "Das lyrische Stenogrammheft", de 1933. O trânsito entre vida pública e privada, assim como as articulações daí resultantes, que tensionam os conflitos individuais no contexto da cidade moderna, organizam, aqui, os critérios de aproximação aos poemas. O objetivo é reconhecer na poesia da autora uma possibilidade de relacionar de maneira produtiva o momento presente e o potencial interpretativo implicado na representação da experiência da metrópole, partindo de Berlim, na República de Weimar. This paper explores the meanings of isolation in Mascha Kaléko's lyric poetry, especially in some pieces from the collection "Das lyrische Stenogrammheft" (1933). More specifically, I intend to outline the social formations of loneliness in these poems, whilst analysing individual conflicts between public and private spheres in modern urban life. As a result, Kaléko's lyric poetry may offer an interpretative framework grounded on a historical representation of the metropolis (Weimar Berlin) for assessing present-day issues, such as self-absorption and loss of community.

    O artigo traz um estudo das vanguardas, tais como elas foram apresentadas ao leitor brasileiro por algumas das primeiras histórias da literatura alemã escritas em língua portuguesa. Três histórias brasileiras da literatura alemã (KOHNEN, 1948; CARPEAUX, 1967; ROSENFELD, 1993) são confrontadas com definições teóricas e textos historiográficos mais recentes, levando-se em consideração tópicos referentes às vanguardas, como origens, período de vigência, características inerentes e autores relevantes. De 1948 até cerca de 1970, período em que as três histórias foram escritas, percebe-se um crescimento na valorização das vanguardas e uma maior complexidade em sua apresentação. O fato pode ser atribuído a um desenvolvimento dos estudos de língua e literatura alemã no Brasil da década de 1960, bem como à formação mais ampla dos historiadores, que é visível em suas produções e biografias. The article brings a study of the avant-garde as presented to the Brazilian reader by some of the first histories of German literature written in Portuguese. Three Brazilian histories of German literature (KOHNEN, 1948; CARPEAUX, 1967; ROSENFELD, 1993) are confronted with more recent theoretical definitions and historiographical texts, taking into account topics related to the avant-garde, such as origins, duration, inherent characteristics and relevant authors. From 1948 to about 1970, a period in which all three histories were written, there was an increase in the valuation of the avant-garde movements and a greater complexity in their presentation. The fact is attributed to two main causes: the development of German studies in Brazil in the 1960s and a broader training of historians, which is attested in their productions and biographies.

    Muitas vozes e ecos ressoaram no Pós-Guerra, elementos esses, que continuam sendo analisados na contemporaneidade. Neste sentido, propõe-se um estudo comparado entre os livros "Morte no paraíso: a tragédia de Stefan Zweig", de Alberto Dines e a quarta narrativa - "Max Aurach" - de "Os Emigrantes", de W. G. Sebald. O primeiro remete ao destino de Zweig, como protagonista que viveu os embates, tristezas, fuga, sentimento de (des)pertencimento. O segundo, nas vozes do narrador, que ouve os ecos ressoantes de pessoas que vivenciaram a Segunda Guerra e do personagem Aurach, representando uma vida assombrada pela guerra. Ambas as obras evidenciam traços da memória como discurso de resistência e infelicidade, dando lugar à escrita melancólica: uma em que há o padecimento trágico e a outra que busca desvendar um passado velado. Apoiados principalmente nos estudos de Homi Bhabha, em "O local da cultura", e em Stuart Hall, "Da Diáspora", estudaremos aspectos como a dispersão dos povos, de exilados, emigrantes e refugiados, marcando o entre-lugar e a experiência diaspórica. Os danos para Zweig foram irreparáveis na vida, encontrou solução na morte. Já Sebald tentou reparar os danos através dos ecos de outrem, seu protagonista termina em um hospital, com o rosto cor de cinza. Viele Stimmen und Echos erklangen in der Nachkriegzeit, Elemente, die auch in der heutigen Zeit analysiert werden. So werde ich eine vergleichende Studie vorschlagen zwischen den Büchern "Tod im Paradies: die Tragödie des Stefan Zweig", von Alberto Dines und der vierten Geschichte "Max Aurach" aus "Die Ausgewanderten", von W. G. Sebald. Das Erste bezieht sich auf das Schicksal von Zweig als Protagonisten, der die Zusammenstösse, die Trauer, die Flucht und das Gefühl der (Un)Zugehörigkeit erlebt hat. Das Zweite repräsentiert ein vom Krieg heimgesuchtes Leben, in den Stimmen des Erzählers, der das Echo von Menschen, die den Zweiten Weltkrieg erlebt haben, und der Figur Aurach hört. Beide Werke zeigen Erinnerungsspuren als Diskurs über Widerstand und Unglück, die melancholischen Schriften hervorbringen: eine, in der tragisches Leid herrscht, und die andere, die verborgene Vergangenheit enthüllen will. Hauptsächlich gestützt auf die Studien von Homi Bhabha "Die Verortung der Kultur" und Stuart Hall "Da Diáspora", werden Aspekte wie die Zerstreuung von Völkern, Verbannten, Auswanderern und Flüchtlingern untersucht und Zwischen-Orte und die diasporische Erfahrung unterstrichen. Der Schaden war für Zweig irreparabel im Leben, er fand Lösung im Tod. Sebald hat durch die Echos von anderen seinen eigenen Schaden zu reparieren versucht, sein Protagonist endet in einem Krankenhaus, und sein Gesicht ist grau.

    Die historische Vergangenheit Deutschlands erscheint nicht nur in Texten mit biografischem Charakter, sondern auch in Produktionen, die darauf abzielen, einen einzigartigen Blick auf einige reale Tatsachen zu werfen, die die Geschichte des Landes durchdringen. Die Schrecken des Holocaust, die beiden Weltkriege, die Frage der Teilung Deutschlands und des Falls der Berliner Mauer sind Ereignisse, die mehrere Generationen durchdrungen haben und immer noch durchdringen, die den Verlauf dieser Ereignisse erlebt oder in Frage gestellt haben. Die Literatur tritt somit als eines der Mittel auf, das nicht nur die Diskussion über die verschiedenen Arten des Umgangs mit dieser gegenwärtigen Vergangenheit fördert, sondern als eine Art Bühne, auf der die verschiedenen Geschichten dieser unzähligen Generationen Gehör finden. Bernhard Schlink scheint, durch eine zeitliche Reise durch die wichtigsten Episoden des heutigen Deutschlands, über die deutsche Vergangenheit aus der Perspektive von Kindern und Eltern, Tätern und Opfern nachdenken zu wollen. Es war daher in dem folgenden Beitrag beabsichtigt, die Beziehungen zwischen den in einigen Werken des Autors vorhandenen Generationen kurz zu analysieren und zu verstehen, wie sie sich auf die Schuldfrage auswirken und das Geschehen in dieser Gesellschaft überwinden. O passado histórico da Alemanha figura não apenas em textos de caráter biográfico, mas também em produções ficcionais que objetivam lançar um olhar singular para diversos fatos reais que penetram na história do país. Os horrores do Holocausto, das duas Guerras Mundiais, a questão da divisão da Alemanha e da Queda do Muro de Berlim são eventos que perpassaram, e ainda perpassam, várias gerações que vivenciaram ou que questionam o desenrolar desses acontecimentos. A literatura surge, deste modo, como um dos meios que promovem não somente a discussão sobre as diferentes formas de lidar com esse passado tão presente, mas antes como uma espécie de palco onde as várias histórias dessas inúmeras gerações ganham voz. Bernhard Schlink parece querer, por meio de uma viagem temporal pelos principais episódios da Alemanha contemporânea, proporcionar a reflexão sobre o passado alemão sob a perspectiva dos filhos e dos pais, dos perpetradores e das vítimas. Desta forma, pretendeu-se, aqui, analisar de maneira breve as relações entre gerações presentes em algumas obras do autor e compreender como elas impactam a questão da culpa e da superação do que se passou naquela sociedade.

Principalmente quando pensamos nas crescentes ondas migratórias que têm levado muitos emigrantes e refugiados para países emergentes, tais como Brasil, na América do sul, e Alemanha, na Europa. No entanto, sempre abordamos a temática, ou sempre que a temática é abordada, observamos um padrão: falar sobre o tema a partir da perspectiva do portador da linguagem de direito excluindo do debate a visão do principal agente das ações migratórias; o estrangeiro. O presente artigo surge como uma tentativa de análise e caracterização desse sujeito estranho a partir da teoria de Jacques Derrida (2003), que afirma ser essa entidade, e somente ela, a portadora da questão dos valores agregados nas relações que se estabelecem entre estranho e sociedade. Além disso, segundo Jean-Luc Nancy (2006), experimentar a chegada do estrangeiro é apreciar uma série de mudanças nos nossos comportamentos morais, e por isso tão importante que esta entidade deixa de ser o tema e passa a ser o foco. Para que tal análise fosse realizada, tomamos como objeto de leitura a novela escrita por Thomas Mann (1971), intitulado "Tonio Kröger" (1902). O enredo da obra e a própria construção do personagem Tonio nos proporciona uma visão interessante da problemática que é a do sujeito, que apesar de pertencer e estar inserido no contexto social que invade, questiona as convenções morais vigentes a partir da sua própria constituição de estranho, e por isso, é constantemente classificando como um estrangeiro social. A partir disso, buscamos traçar caracterizações identificadas no personagem com o intuito de responder as seguintes perguntas: quem é esse estrangeiro? E o que faz dele um estrangeiro? Chegando então a tripla caracterização deste indivíduo social, do estranho que em mim habita. Talking about the relations that are established between the foreigner and the asylum society, those with the power of hospitality, seems urgent. Especially when we think of the rising migratory waves that have driven many emigrants to emerging countries such as Brazil in South America and Germany in Europe. However, whenever we approach the theme, or whenever the theme is approached, we observe a pattern that is to talk about the theme from the perspective of the holder of the language of law excluding from the debate the view of the main agent of migratory actions, the foreigner. The present article emerges as an attempt to analyze and characterize this strange subject from Jacques Derrida's (2003) theory, who claims that this entity, and only it, is the bearer of the issue of aggregate values in the relations established between stranger and society. Moreover, according to Jean-Luc Nancy (2006), experiencing the arrival of foreigners is enjoying a series of changes in our moral behaviors, and so important that this entity is no longer the theme and becomes the focus. For such an analysis to be performed, we took as reading object the tale written by Thomas Mann (1971), entitled "Tonio Kröger" (1902). The plot of the work and the very construction of the character Tonio gives us an interesting insight into the problematic that is the subject, which despite belonging and being inserted in the social context that invades, questions the prevailing moral conventions from his own constitution of stranger, and so it is constantly classified as a social alien. From this, we seek to trace characterizations identified in the character in order to answer the following questions: who is this foreigner? And what makes him a foreigner? Then comes the triple characterization of this social individual, of the stranger that dwells in me.

    Der vorliegende Artikel beschäftigt sich mit der Autorfrage in Zeiten der künstlichen Intelligenz. Die Frage nach der Austauschbarkeit des empirischen Schriftstellers stellt sich dabei verstärkt seit dem Zeitalter der Kybernetik. Im Folgenden werden zwei Positionen, Italo Calvinos Idee einer Autormaschine ("Cibernetica e fantasmi", 1967) und dem Autorbot bei Clemens Setz ("Bot. Gespräch ohne Autor", 2018), untersucht. Calvinos Kombinationsmaschine, die in Analogie zu einem algorithmischen Vorgehen steht, hat den Autor ersetzt. Der Autor ist nicht mehr Ursprung des Textes, wie auch Roland Barthes betont. Doch die Maschine kommt nicht ohne die gesellschaftlich und individuell bedingten Geister aus, die sie heimsuchen. Der zeitgenössische Schriftsteller Clemens Setz lässt hingegen einen Bot, der mit dem Archiv seiner Texte gefüttert wurde, in seiner Abwesenheit auf Interviewfragen antworten. Menschliche und technische Logik liegen für den Leser dabei näher beieinander, als erwartet. Paradoxerweise, so ist festzuhalten, bestärkt die Inszenierung des fehlenden Autors bei Clemens Setz aber die Autorfigur - denn der Autor muss sich in Interviews, auf Preisverleihungen und Reden bewähren. Zeichen einer neuen Wichtigkeit und Sichtbarkeit des Autors? Este artigo trata da questão do autor em tempos de inteligência artificial. A questão da intercambialidade do escritor empírico tem sido cada vez mais levantada desde a era da cibernética. Nas duas posições seguintes serão analisadas, a ideia de uma máquina-autor de Italo Calvino ("Cibernetica e fantasmi", 1967) e o bot de Clemens Setz ("Bot. Gespräch ohne Autor", 2018). A máquina combinada de Calvino, que é análoga a um procedimento algorítmico, substituiu o autor. O autor não é mais a origem do texto, como também enfatiza Roland Barthes. Contudo, a máquina não pode prescindir dos espíritos condicionados social e individualmente que a assombraram. O escritor contemporâneo Clemens Setz, por outro lado, deixa um robô abastecido com o arquivo de seus textos responder às perguntas de entrevista durante sua ausência. Para o leitor, a lógica humana e a técnica estão mais próximas do que o esperado. Paradoxalmente, é possível perceber em Clemens Setz que a encenação do autor ausente reforça sua própria figura, visto que esse precisa estar presente em entrevistas, cerimônias de premiação e discursos. Sinal de uma nova importância e visibilidade do autor?

Explorando uma possibilidade de análise não feita no estudo de Helmut Koopmann sobre os dois irmãos, pretende-se, neste artigo, comparar "O anjo azul" com "A Morte em Veneza", uma vez que ambas as obras, sendo a primeira uma sátira e a segunda, uma tragédia, têm no problema da forma um elemento central de seu argumento. Neste sentido, a caracterização de Aschenbach como "herói da fraqueza" se distinguirá da caracterização de Unrat como "tirano" a partir da estrutura temporal subjacente à caracterização de ambos os personagens. This article sets out to show how, for Thomas Mann, art is a form of morality, instead of a moral instrument. This assertion is meaningful as one considers the peculiar context of the tense dialogue between Thomas Mann and his brother Heinrich Mann. By exploring an analytic possibility not examined in Helmut Koopman's study on the two brothers, this article compares their works "The blue angel" and "Death in Venice" - a satire and a tragedy -, since the issue of form is a key element in the argument of both books. The characterization of Aschenbach as a "hero of frankness", in this sense, is contrasted to the characterization of Unrat as a "tyrant", based on the time-structure that underlies the way these two particular characters are depicted.

This article points out affinities between Erich Auerbach and Siegfried Kracauer's thoughts by discussing recurring methodological procedures and critical issues. The focus is on nuances and implications of their aesthetic realism conceptions and on the relevance of their works for the theoretical debate and for the exercise of literary criticism nowadays.

    Exploro neste trabalho o poema "Todesfuge", do poeta e tradutor alemão Paul Celan, e, a partir dele, teço relações com concepções advindas do ideário do linguista, poeta e tradutor francês Henri Meschonnic. As temáticas da Ética e da Estética, caras aos dois autores, fazem-se presentes. No decorrer da análise de "Todesfuge", chamo a atenção, particularmente, para a forma da tradução de seu título em língua portuguesa, assim como para as eventuais decorrências dessas escolhas. I explore, in this paper, the poem "Todesfuge", by the German poet and translator Paul Celan, and based on it I make connections with some conceptions present in Henri Meschonnic's work as a French linguist, poet and translator. I explore the themes of Ethics and Esthetics, so relevant for both authors. In the course of the analysis of "Todesfuge", I particularly call the attention to the way its title has been translated into Portuguese, as well as to the consequences of such choices.

    O trabalho retoma a análise freudiana de "Der Sandmann", presente num ensaio de 1919 que se provou paradigmático para as interpretações futuras da obra de E. T. A. Hoffmann. No dito ensaio, o pai da psicanálise faz diversos juízos sobre a construção argumentativa da novela romântica que, nos estudos literários, vêm sendo indevidamente atribuídos ao próprio Hoffmann. Seu programa estético supostamente seria aquele de um analista dos mecanismos psíquicos de suas personagens, revelando-o como um curioso conhecedor avant la lettre das teorias psicanalíticas. É como se a criação de um imaginário horripilante que caracteriza sua prosa servisse a um impulso interpretativo das áreas ocultas da psique a fim de detrair tendências irracionalistas e animistas de suas personagens. A crítica freudiana ao animismo é um dos aspectos mais contestados por estudiosos recentes como Bruno Latour e Isabelle Stengers e, por isso, retomaremos seus argumentos num segundo momento. Então, alguns de seus argumentos serão retomados em um segundo momento do artigo para que possamos voltar a Hoffmann e reinterpretar sua estética como uma defesa de certo tipo de animismo, para além dos paradigmas psicanalíticos que nunca cessaram de o ensombrar. This paper takes up Freud's analysis of "Der Sandmann" (1816), embodied in a 1919 article which proved itself paradigmatic to interpretations of E. T. A. Hoffmann's work. In this article, the father of psychoanalysis renders several judgments about the argumentative structure of the romantic novella which, in Literary Studies, have been improperly attributed to Hoffmann himself. His aesthetical program would namely be one of an analyst of psychical mechanisms of his characters, thus revealing the author as an odd pundit of psychoanalytic theories much before their inception. It is as if the setup of the horrifying fantasy which characterizes his prose should come along an interpretative urge of the hidden areas of the psyche, so as to discredit irrational and animist tendencies in his characters. Freud's critique of animism is one of the most contested by recent scholar such as Bruno Latour and Isabelle Stengers. Hence, some of their arguments will be recovered at a second moment of this article in order that we go back to Hoffmann and reinterpret his aesthetics as a defense of a certain type of animism, beyond the psychoanalytic paradigm that never ceased to overshadow it.

    In this paper, I present and then contrast briefly the understandings of 'rhythm' in the works of both Massaud Moisés and Henri Meschonnic. Meschonnic proposes a quite open understanding of the term, which brings up notions of ethics, politics, linguistics and several other branches of knowledge to the understanding of rhythm; and really intends to revolutionize all of the theory of language in order to do so. Moisés, on the other hand, works with a much more discernible and precise term, which refers to very specific sound-related characteristics of a word, without, however, oversimplificating it. By presenting and contrasting both understandings I intend to bring out how fruitful a debate one can achieve from oposing them. Further in this paper - and in order to ascertain how the understandings of the two, as well as my remarks, are put into translation practice - I will bring along two translations I made of german-language poets Ingeborg Bachmann and Peter Waterhouse. Neste artigo apresento e contrasto brevemente as noções quase opostas do termo "ritmo" nas obras dos teóricos Massaud Moisés e Henri Meschonnic. Meschonnic propõe uma compreensão bastante aberta do termo, que recupera noções da ética, da política, da linguística e de diversas outras áreas do conhecimento para o entendimento do mesmo; e intenta mesmo transformar toda a teoria da linguagem para tal. Moisés, por outro lado, trabalha com uma noção muito mais delineável e precisa do termo, que remete a características sonoras específicas da palavra, sem, no entanto, cair em simplificações. Ao apresentar e contrastar os dois entendimentos, pretendo explorar o que se depreende de produtivo desse encontro, principalmente no que diz respeito ao campo da tradução de poesia. Para isso - e de modo a verificar como tanto as noções dos dois teóricos quanto meus apontamentos se materializam na prática tradutória - retomarei mais adiante no texto duas traduções minhas dos autores de língua alemã, Ingeborg Bachmann e Peter Waterhouse.

    Ao considerarmos as obras que compõem a Literatura de Testemunho, podemos observar a prevalência de textos autobiográficos relatando as atrocidades da perseguição nazista e dos campos de concentração. No entanto, há também muitas obras ficcionais, de teor autobiográfico ounão, que narram tais experiências e outras relacionadas aos sofrimentos causados pelo nacional-socialismo a grandes parcelas da população europeia. Ao analisarmos a obra "Der Tod des Widersachers", de Hans Keilson, procuramos determinar os índices de ficcionalidade que a afastam de uma possível leitura autobiográfica e refletir sobre as implicações éticas e estéticas de Keilson haver ficcionalizado experiências próprias. As we consider the literary works taken as part of the Literature of Testimony, we can observe the prevalence of autobiographical texts relating the atrocities of Nazi persecution and concentration camps. However, there are also many fictional texts, autobiographical or otherwise, that tell of such experiences and others related to the sufferings caused by National Socialism to a large part of the European population. Analysing Hans Keilson's "Der Tod des Widersachers", we try to determine the signposts of fictionality that distance the novel from a possible autobiographical reading, and reflect on the ethical and aesthetic implications of Keilson's fictionalizing his own experiences.

    Nosso objetivo central é apresentar um estudo sobre Heinrich Schüler, cidadão teuto-brasileiro autor de um minucioso livro sobre o Brasil. Com sua ideia de "Brasil, um país do futuro", antecipou-se a Stefan Zweig em quase três décadas. Brasileiro naturalizado, Schüler foi representante consular do Brasil em Bremen e cônsul-adjunto em Hamburgo, onde também ministrou cursos sobre cultura brasileira para universitários. Baseando-nos em pesquisas feitas em jornais brasileiros e teuto-brasileiros, logramos compor uma imagem de Schüler que, como mostram as análises, transitava facilmente entre as diplomacias brasileira e alemã. Justamente por isso, era bem visto por uns, mas com suspeição por outros. Se, por um lado, mostrava-se um fiel cidadão da pátria que o acolhera, por outro, revelava-se um incansável defensor do alemanismo no Brasil. Defendia o envio de "sangue novo alemão" para terras brasileiras, para evitar que "as colônias de expressão alemã muito dispersas no sul do Brasil" tivessem de se mesclar "com os elementos estrangeiros". Diante do perfil de Schüler, conclui-se que, se Stefan Zweig tiver lido a monografia do cônsul como leitura preparatória, posteriormente deve ter-se chocado com as ideias políticas desse homem que flertaria com a intenção hitlerista de implantar células do 'Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei' (NSDAP - em português, Partido Nacional-Socialista dos Trabalhadores Alemães) em estados germanófonos brasileiros. Our main objective is to present a study on Heinrich Schüler, a German-Brazilian author who published a detailed book about Brazil. With his idea of "Brazil, a country of the future", he anticipated Stefan Zweig in almost three decades. A naturalized Brazilian, Schüler was Brazil's consular representative in Bremen and assistant consul in Hamburg, where he taught university courses on Brazilian culture. Basing on research performed in Brazilian and German-Brazilian newspapers, we could compose a portrait of a man who transitioned between Brazilian and German diplomacy. Thus, he was well-regarded by some, but regarded with suspicion by others. If he showed himself to be a faithful citizen of Brazil, he also revealed himself to be a tireless defender of Germanism in Brazil. He defended the sending of "new German blood" to Brazil, in order to avoid that "the German-speaking colonies widely dispersed in the South of Brazil" had to be mixed "with the foreign elements". Examining Schüler's profile, we conclude that, if Zweig had read the consul's monography as a preparatory reading, he must have subsequently been shocked by Schüler's political ideas, since he would flirt with the Hitlerist intention of implanting 'Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei' (NSDAP - in English, National Socialist German Worker's Party) cells in Brazilian German-speaking states.

    "Brother of sleep" ("Schlafes Bruder") is the first novel by the Austrian writer Robert Schneider, published in 1992. It tells the story of a music prodigy, who was born in a small village at the beginning of the nineteenth century. This paper aims to reflect on the series of obstacles that stop the protagonist, Elias Alder, from achieving professional and personal success, given the limitations of the community. The novel condenses modern and post-modern characteristics, such as the identity fragmentation, the irony, the estrangement and the breaking of narrative linearity. "Quem ama não dorme" ("Schlafes Bruder") é o primeiro romance do escritor austríaco Robert Schneider, publicado em 1992. Ele conta a história de um prodígio da música, nascido em um vilarejo no início do século XIX. Este artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre a série de empecilhos que impedem o protagonista, Elias Alder, de alcançar sucesso profissional e pessoal, tendo em vista as limitações da comunidade. O romance condensa características modernas e pós-modernas, como a fragmentação identitária, a ironia, o estranhamento e a quebra da linearidade narrativa.

    A pedagogia iluminista procurou debater os meios de se educar o ser humano para o bem e para a independência intelectual, fundando os pressupostos dessa formação nas leis morais do bem supremo. Para tanto, a filosofia da época usou como parâmetro de sua pedagogia a total responsabilidade do ser humano por seus atos, o que acarretou na imprescindibilidade de uma formação que operasse na natureza humana uma transformação positiva, pautada na máxima do bem moral. Inicialmente adepto a esta proposta, Heinrich von Kleist, logo após sua famosa "crise kantiana", passou a contestar o modelo de educação iluminista a partir de um viés cético, pois, para o autor, a nova visão de realidade aberta pelo criticismo kantiano evidenciou os fracassos dessa pedagogia. Sob este novo ponto de vista, as noções de liberdade e de moralidade ganharam uma nova caracterização, já que se tornou impossível para Kleist determinar quais seriam os resultados desses projetos educacionais na conduta humana. Diante deste cenário, analisaremos, neste artigo, dois textos exemplares de como esta discussão foi transposta pelo autor para a literatura: em "Allerneuster Erziehungsplan", Kleist inverte a lógica desta educação ao propor uma "escola de vícios", enquanto que, em "Der Findling" (1811), o autor contesta os valores morais burgueses da família e do bem supremo, desembocando em um texto repleto de violência e de maldade. The Enlightenment pedagogy aimed to discuss the means of educating the human being both for good and intellectual independence, based on the principles of moral laws and of the supreme good. Thus, philosophy at that time has set the total responsibility of man for his acts as a parameter of its pedagogy, which entailed the indispensability of an education that has undergone a positive transformation in human nature, based on the maxim of moral judgement. Initially adept at such proposal, Heinrich von Kleist, right after his famous "Kantian crisis", began to contest the Enlightenment education model from a skeptical bias, since, for the author, the Kantian criticism showed the failures of this pedagogy according to a new view of reality. From this new perspective, the notions of freedom and morality assumed a new characterization, since it became impossible for Kleist to determine the results of these educational projects on human conduct. In face of this scenario, we will analyze in this paper two exemplary texts of how the author transposes such discussion into literature: in "Allerneuster Erziehungsplan", Kleist inverts the logic of this education by proposing a "school of vice", whereas in "Der Findling", the author contests the bourgeois moral values of family and supreme good, leading to a text full of violence and evil.

    Amid the hilly landscape of the Swiss Alps, a sanatorium for respiratory diseases. The many coughs in long treatment do not have more serious commitments than following the usual mealtime and home schedule. Faced with this spatially stagnant and temporally hermetic medium of Thomas Mann's "The magic mountain", freedom is muffled. We do not refer, of course, to the creative freedom of the German author, whose proof of grandeur is the novel itself, neither to the interpretative freedom of the reader, but to freedom - or rather its attenuation - problematized by the characters of this long history. This is the case of the young protagonist Hans Castorp, whose learning about the theme paradoxically occurs at the time of his stay in a place that hijacks his freedom. This is not only because the main character is unable to choose, without constraints, the values that underlie his choices, but also because this is hampered by the anomalous, or, according to the title, "magic" spatio-temporal situation of the mountain. How this problem is presented narratively, by means of some freedom indexes - that is, elements that modify the indeterminacy of the narrative, for the characters and the reader -, is what we want to present. Em meio à paisagem montanhosa dos Alpes suíços, um sanatório para doenças respiratórias. As muitas tosses ali em longo tratamento não possuem compromissos mais sérios que não sejam seguir o horário habitual das refeições e dos repousos. Diante desse meio espacialmente estagnado e temporalmente hermético de "A montanha mágica", de Thomas Mann, a liberdade mostra-se amortecida. Não nos referimos, evidentemente, à liberdade criativa do autor alemão, cuja prova de grandeza é o romance em si, tampouco à liberdade interpretativa do leitor, mas à liberdade - ou, antes, sua atenuação - problematizada pelas personagens dessa longa história. É o caso do jovem protagonista Hans Castorp, cujo aprendizado a respeito do tema paradoxalmente ocorre durante sua estada num lugar que sequestra sua liberdade. Isso se dá não apenas porque a personagem principal é incapaz de eleger, sem constrangimentos, os valores que embasam suas escolhas, mas também porque isso é dificultado pela situação espaçotemporal anômala ou, segundo o título, "mágica" da montanha. Como essa problemática é apresentada narrativamente, por meio de alguns índices de liberdade - ou seja, elementos que modificam, para as personagens e para o leitor, a indeterminação da narrativa -, é o que queremos apresentar.

    Yoko Tawada ist einer der wichtigsten Namen der deutschen zeitgenössischen Literatur. Ihr literarisches Projekt behandelt Identität durch Verfremdung. Im Werk "Das nackte Auge" geht es um ein junges vietnamesisches Mädchen, dessen Name nicht verraten wird. Aufgrund eines Irrtums mit dem Zug kommt sie in Paris an. Sie spricht kein Französisch und versteht die fremde Umgebung nicht, aber findet in den Filmen, und zwar in den von Catherine Deneuve gespielten Figuren, einen Ort der Zuflucht und Identifikation. Jedes Kapitel beschäftigt sich mit einem Film, dessen Erzählung die Geschichte der Hauptfigur des Romans allmählich beeinflusst. Im ersten Kapitel "Repulsion", eine Anspielung auf den Film von Roman Polanski, kann man schon viele Elemente aus dem filmischen Werk erkennen, die wichtig für die Struktur des Romans sind. Eine solche intermediale Konstruktion wird im Roman vorgestellt, um Fragen über die Identität des Individuums der Gegenwart und seine (nackte) Sicht über die Fremde zu stellen. Yoko Tawada é um dos nomes mais importantes da Literatura Contemporânea. Seu projeto literário trata das questões acerca da identidade através do processo de estranhamento. Em "Das nackte Auge" tem-se uma jovem garota vietnamita, cujo nome nunca é revelado, que, por conta de um engano, desembarca na cidade de Paris. Ela não fala francês e se vê incapaz de compreender o meio estrangeiro que a cerca. No entanto, encontra no cinema, mais especificamente nas personagens de Catherine Deneuve, um local de refúgio e identificação. Cada capítulo trata de um filme cuja narrativa progressivamente se mistura e influencia a narrativa da personagem. Já no primeiro capítulo, "Repulsion", uma referência ao filme de Roman Polanski, pode-se perceber diversos elementos comuns à obra fílmica e de fundamental importância na construção de "Das nackte Auge". Tal construção intermidiática é apresentada com o objetivo de suscitar questões acerca do sujeito contemporâneo e seu olhar (desnudado) sobre o estranho, o estrangeiro.

    Este artigo tem o intuito de investigar conceitos atuais que designam a escrita de autores migrantes, sobretudo, os refugiados cuja escrita ultrapassa os limites biográficos e nacionais, ausente a possibilidade de alocação de suas escritas em qualquer classificatória. Apesar de esforços ao longo da história dos estudos literários de desagregar os escritos desses autores à sua origem, na tentativa de retirar um crivo nacional, vê-se em historiografias literárias recentes certo apego ao ideário constitutivo da nação na denominação das literaturas escritas por migrantes. Como exemplo dos escritores outrora refugiados na Alemanha e sua recente produção, este artigo propõe a ideia mundialização desses escritos, em uma espécie de nova 'Weltliteratur'. This paper aims to investigate current concepts which designate the writing of migrant authors, especially refugees whose writing exceeds the biographical and national limits, absent the possibility of allocating their writing in any classification. Although efforts throughout the history of literary studies to disaggregate the writings of these authors of their origin, in the attempt to remove a national bias, it is possible to still verify, in recent literary historiographies, a certain attachment to the constitutive ideology of the nation in the denomination of written literatures by migrants. As the example of the writers once refugees in Germany and its recent production, this article proposes the idea of "worldzation" of these writings, in a kind of new 'Weltliteratur'.

    Ao desconstruímos, neste ensaio, o conceito Monstruosidade apresentamos as pretensões dos "níveis de malevolência" nos estereótipos da feiura advindos de personificações tais como o Golem, o Ciclope ou as personagens bestiais made in Hollywood - em sua maioria, discursos preconceituosos contra a Alteridade. Dito isso, o problema do mal será considerado aqui a partir da condição de inescapabilidade em face de imensos acontecimentos, dentro dos quais o homem se encontra implicado - disso conceituamos Monstruosidade em correlação com o Mal e o Inescapável. Assim, este texto objetiva investigar tal conceito na imanência dos acontecimentos de "A Metamorfose", de Franz Kafka. Para isso, nossas hipóteses são: a) a Monstruosidade se configura tanto mais quanto maior for à inescapabilidade dos fatos nos quais os homens são vitimados; b) o homem não é monstro nem algoz em si, mesmo que se revista de fealdade de aparência; c) o Mal se constitui através dos acontecimentos caudalosos e sequenciados da história humana nos quais os homens se engajam; d) inocência e culpa se constituem em arbitrariedades no regime de monstruosidade. Assim, efetuamos uma pesquisa textual de cunho filosófico e literário, sobre o texto de Kafka em busca destas questões. In this issue, to deconstructing the Monstrosity concept, we present the claims of "levels of malevolence" the stereotypes of ugliness coming from personifications such as the Golem, the Cyclops, or bestial characters made in Hollywood - mostly prejudiced speeches against otherness. That said, the problem of evil is seen here from the inescapability condition in the face of huge events, in which man is involved - that conceptualize Monstrosity in correlation with the disease and the Inescapable. Thus, this text discusses the concept inherent to the events of "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka. Our hypotheses are: a) the Monstrosity is configured so much the greater the inescapability of events in which men are victimized; b) man is no monster nor executioner itself, even if he puts on ugliness of appearance; c) Evil is constituted through the mighty and sequenced events of human history in which men engage; d) innocence and guilt constitute arbitrary monstrosity of the regime. For this, we have made a textual search of a philosophical and literary nature, on the text of Kafka asking about these questions.

    Este artigo visa a expor as principais questões envolvidas no processo de tradução do alemão para o português do Brasil do livro "Opium für Ovid: Ein Kopfkissenbuch von 22 Frauen" ("Ópio para Ovídio: um Livro do Travesseiro de 22 mulheres"), de Yoko Tawada. Com vistas ao exercício de traduzir, este trabalho deve ser entendido como um estudo preliminar sobre a escritora e seu livro "Ópio para Ovídio", escrito em uma língua estrangeira. Num contexto de constante migração e, ao mesmo tempo, de negação do Outro e de xenofobia, entende-se como necessária a busca por uma experiência de alteridade. Nesse sentido, este trabalho persegue o deslocamento do olhar para uma perspectiva e uma língua estrangeiras, de modo que o texto traduzido propicie uma experiência com o 'fremd'. In dem vorliegenden Artikel sollen die wichtigsten Aspekte des Übersetzungsprozesses aus dem Deutschen ins brasilianische Portugiesisch des Buches "Opium für Ovid: Ein Kopfkissenbuch von 22 Frauen" von Yoko Tawada behandelt werden. Im Hinblick auf die Übersetzungspraxis lässt sich diese Arbeit als Vorstudie über die Schriftstellerin und ihr Buch "Opium für Ovid" verstehen. Das Buch wurde auf Deutsch verfasst, eine Fremdsprache für Yoko Tawada. In Anbetracht der ständigen Migration und einer gleichzeitig wachsenden Fremdenfeindlichkeit wird die Suche nach einer Auseinandersetzung mit der Fremdheit gefordert. In diesem Sinne verfolgt diese Arbeit eine Verschiebung in die Richtung des Fremden, sodass der übersetzte Text auch eine Erfahrung damit ermöglichen kann. This paper presents the main issues involved in the translation process from German into Brazilian Portuguese of the book "Opium für Ovid: Ein Kopfkissenbuch von 22 Frauen" ("Opium for Ovid: A Pillow Book of 22 Women"), by Yoko Tawada. This work should be understood as a preliminary study about the writer and her book "Opium for Ovid", that was written in a foreign language. In a context of constant migration and a growing xenophobia, the experience of foreignness is considered here as necessary. Therefore, by emphasizing the displacement of perspectives, this work aims to provide an experience with the foreign ('fremd') through the act of translating.
