    Following on Hans Bol's 2018 publication 'God's Allies' (ISBN 9789080876743), in which he presented his black-and-white photographs of crows and ravens, 'Revisited' features silver gelatin prints that depict the darker and perhaps more divine side of these intriguing birds. After all, crows and ravens have gained a reputation for being intelligent, alert, and playful, and are often associated with both death and good fortune. At the same time, the publication is a personal celebration of the photographer's craft. Bol goes on at length about his long hours of concentration in the darkroom, experimenting with chemical processes and chance, allowing himself the freedom to be precise, but not too precise

    In 2011 the father of photographer Hans Bol was diagnosed with cancer. In response, he took his camera and began a touching and intimate chronicle of the elderly man's gradual deterioration over the next six months, until finally passing away in the comfort of a hospice, no longer able to speak but with his pain alleviated to the best degree possible. Bol could not have predicted that he would end up making the series "White Crow", or what would result from the process of inevitably saying goodbye to a loved one. Interspersed with pictures of his father are the crows and ravens that appear frequently in Bol's work, which he views as symbols of transformation and harbingers of eternity

    Der Herbst wird mit der Tätigkeit des Schlachtens und der Weinlese dargestellt. Im Vordergrund wird gerade eine Kuh geschlachtet, Innereien liegen im Vordergrund, ein bereits totes Tier liegt auf einem Tisch daneben und wird ausgenommen. Ein Mann bringt eine Keule ins Haus. Rechts stehen zwei kleine Kinder vor einem Brunnen. Im Hintergrund werden in einem Wingert Trauben gelesen und in eine große Bütt geschüttet. Weiter links werden gefällte Bäume zersägt. Das geschäftige Treiben wird von einer Dorfkulisse mit Kirchturm eingerahmt, dahinter erstrecken sich weite Hügel, die durch eine Windmühle akzentuiert werden.

    Das winterliche Treiben auf dem Eis wird figurenreich in Szene gesetzt. Im Vordergrund werden sich die Schlittschuhe angeschnallt, im Mittelgrund gleiten einige Gruppen und Paare elegant über die zugefrorene Fläche, andere stürzen und vorne rechts ist ein Mann ins Eis eingebrochen. Im Haus rechts wird fröhlich gefeiert, während links auf dem Hügel die Weinstöcke gepflegt werden. Ein Stadtpanorama mit einem kleinen Schloss schließt die Darstellung nach hinten ab. Der Wolken verhangene Himmel ist an manchen Stellen von Regen durchzogen.

    Hans Bol has been living in the Ooijpolder, in the east of the Netherlands, since 1993. Following an earlier series of landscape photographs of this area which he published in 2004, the pandemic presented the perfect opportunity to further investigate his immediate surroundings. According to Bol, it felt liberating and beneficial to be able to explore the landscape with a calm sort of concentration, a small camera always at hand, making pictures inspired by amazement or chance rather than any preconceived plan. This new series of photos made him more conscious than ever of the significance of the concept of ?home?. Includes a text by Dutch behavioural biologist Tijs Goldschmidt, recipient of the 2023 P.C. Hooft Award for his complete oeuvre
