    The article presents theoretical questions to be further developed in future research about the cognitive aspects of literature. The author considers the literary text to have a specific cognitive function that differs from the conceptual and abstract thinking and offers to the readership models for human actions and for the perception of the world. O artigo apresenta uma reflexão teórica, a ser desenvolvida em futuras pesquisas, sobre os aspectos cognitivos da literatura. Considera-se que o texto literário possui uma função cognitiva específica, diversa do pensamento conceitual e abstrato, e oferece ao leitor modelos de ação humana e de percepção do mundo.

    Tensioned between variations of the said and the unsaid, and between figures of light and shadow, Paul Celan's work performs a certain confrontation with the condition of silence and obscurity, breaking all at once with a certain way of making poetry and of relating to reality. In this sense, Celan's work can hardly be reduced to a kind of hermeticism, a category too vague to account for its singularity. In his work saying and silencing together articulate the tension that creates the poetic space in which the poem is inscribed. The poet himself tried to refuse the insistence of some critics on labeling his work as obscure. ... A partir da tensão entre variações do dito e do não-dito e entre figuras de luz e sombra, a obra de Paul Celan performa um certo enfrentamento da condição de silêncio e de obscuridade – de onde seu estigma como obra hermética –, rompendo, a um só tempo, com um certo modo de fazer poesia e de se relacionar com a realidade. Nesse sentido, a obra de Celan não se deixaria resumir a uma espécie de hermetismo, categoria demasiadamente vaga para dar conta da singularidade de sua obra. Em sua obra, dizer e calar seriam, antes, os termos de articulação de uma relação que instaura o espaço poético em que se inscreve o poema. Em diversas ocasiões o próprio poeta tentaria refutar a insistência de alguns críticos em rotular sua obra como obscura. ...

    At the beginning of the second part of Goethe's "Elective Affinities" the narrator draws a parallel between life and the stroke of art in the poet in order to replace, in an epic poem, the protagonists for figures hitherto scarcely observed, thereby justifying the increasing importance of the architect in the sequence of the novel. This young artist links to his art a hope for permanence, for survival. Ottilie disagrees in the notes of her diary. She sees in the ruins of the churches and the wreckage of the gravestones not only proof of the transitoriness of this life, but also of the extinction of a second existence post mortem: "Time will not allow itself to be cheated of its rights over men or over monuments". ... No início da segunda parte das "Afinidades eletivas", de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, o narrador traça um paralelo entre a vida e o artifício do poeta para substituir, na epopéia, os protagonistas por figuras até então pouco notadas, justificando assim a crescente importância do arquiteto na sequência da narrativa. Este jovem artista vincula à sua arte uma esperança de permanência, de sobrevida. Ottilie discordará em seus apontamentos de diário. Ela vê nas ruínas das igrejas e nos destroços das lápides não só uma prova da transitoriedade desta vida, mas também do apagamento de uma segunda existência post-mortem: "Assim como sobre os homens, também sobre os monumentos, o tempo não abdica de seu direito". ...

    This article investigates Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's "Italian Journey", published in 1816-1817, which reports his travels through the Italian peninsula from 1786 to 1788. More than a reconstruction of his traveling through memories and diaries, the "Journey" stands out as a narrative of a different look towards a piece of art, as a construction of Goethe's aesthetics. Investiga-se a "Viagem à Itália" de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, obra que narra a viagem à península italiana de 1786 a 1788, publicada em 1816-1817. Contudo, mais do que uma reconstrução de sua viagem através das memórias e diários, a "Viagem" importa, antes de mais, como uma narrativa da construção de um novo olhar para com a obra de arte, como a construção da própria estética goetheana.

    This study examines "On Music and Musicians", by the German composer Robert Schumann, with special emphasis on the reviews written between 1834 and 1836, in order to identify echoes of the main ideas on language and translation developed in Germany between the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. The bases for the study are, firstly, that of the subject, and, secondly, time imbued with the notion of movement. The subject is anchored vertically and in a very personal way, operating within the subject that moves from one system of signs to another, or from one language to another. The second theme takes into account the shaping of the immersion into an element which will break down the barriers of time and, at a stroke, bring the past into the present and include the future. Este trabalho examina os "Escritos sobre a Música e os Músicos", do compositor alemão Robert Schumann, em especial as resenhas escritas entre 1834 e 1836, com vistas a identificar ecos das principais ideias sobre linguagem e tradução desenvolvidas na Alemanha entre o final do séc. XVIII e o início do séc. XIX. Os eixos escolhidos para construir essa ideia são os eixos do sujeito e do tempo perpassados pela noção de movimento. Do primeiro, destacase a ancoragem vertical, personalíssima, operada no interior do sujeito que transita de um sistema sígnico para outro, que traduz seus pensamentos, ou ainda que empreende a passage de uma língua para outra. Do segundo, tem-se em conta a configuração desse mergulho num produto que desmantela as barreiras do tempo e, de um só golpe, contemporiza o passado e inclui o futuro.

    Kraus’s last long text, "Dritte Walpurgisnacht" ("Third Walpurgis Night") was the satirist's reaction to Hitler's seizure of power. It offers the translator a great variety of problems because the author makes an exuberant use of quotations, puns, alliterations, neologisms and variations of sentences, proverbs, maxims and commonplaces. This paper presents some of these problems, discussing possibilities for their resolution, as well as defines a theoretical approach. Último texto de fôlego de Kraus, "Dritte Walpurgisnacht" ("Terceira noite de Valpúrgis") foi a reação do satirista à tomada do poder por Hitler. Do ponto de vista tradutório, oferece grande variedade de problemas, visto que o autor faz um uso exuberante de citações, trocadilhos, aliterações, neologismos e variações de ditos, provérbios, máximas e lugarescomuns. Este artigo apresenta alguns desses problemas e discute possibilidades para sua solução, não sem antes definir uma abordagem teórica. Kraus' letzter langer Text, "Dritte Walpurgisnacht" war die Reaktion des Satirikers auf Hitlers Machtergreifung. Er bietet eine große Vielfalt von Übersetzungsproblemen, da der Autor einen üppigen Gebrauch von Zitaten, Wortspielen, Alliterationen, Wortschöpfungen und Variationen zu Sprüchen, Sprichwörtern, Maximen und Gemeinplätzen macht. In diesem Aufsatz werden einige solcher Probleme vorgestellt und Lösungsmöglichkeiten erörtet, nicht ohne zuvor einen theoretischen Ansatz festzulegen.

    The following article aims to discuss the ground vocabulary of Freudian Metapsychology, beyond the conception of a simple and stiff collection of technique terms. Facing the fact that Freud was a brilliant writer and a keen explorer of the resources provided by the German language, we intend to demonstrate some distortions his vocabulary and style underwent after its passage through internationally influent translations into English and French. Therefore, since recently his work went into the public domain and finally it begins to be directly translated into Portuguese, it is a capital challenge to Freud´s translators in Brazil to recover the lifelike face of his words not disregarding the accuracy of his propositions. O presente artigo objetiva uma discussão sobre o vocabulário fundamental da Metapsicologia freudiana, para além da concepção de um simples e estanque agrupado de termos técnicos. Levando-se também em consideração o fato de que Freud foi um escritor brilhante e um perspicaz explorador dos recursos oferecidos pela língua alemã, é nossa intenção demonstrar certas distorções de seu estilo e vocabulário sofridas após ter passado por traduces internacionalmente influentes para as línguas inglesa e francesa. Logo, com a recente entrada da obra freudiana para o domínio público, esta finalmente passou a ser traduzida diretamente para o português, tornando-se atualmente um desafio fundamental aos tradutores brasileiros de Freud recuperar a vivacidade de suas palavras sem deixar de levar em consideração a acuidade de suas proposições.

    This article aims to investigate the correlation of thought between three leading names in the second half of the nineteenth century – Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud and Hugo von Hofmannsthal – that have addressed the crisis of male identity against the return of matriarchy. Considering the Vienna fin-de-siècle as a backdrop, female is presented here through Electra, a mythical heroine. In Hofmannsthal's homonymous play, she represents not only strengthening as the woman's own destruction. Este artigo tem por objetivo investigar a correlação de pensamento entre três importantes nomes da segunda metade do século XIX – Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud e Hugo von Hofmannsthal – que se debruçaram sobre as crises da identidade masculina frente ao retorno do matriarcado. Tendo a Viena fin-de-siècle como cenário, o feminino é apresentado aqui por intermédio de Electra, que no texto homônimo de Hofmannsthal representa não só o fortalecimento como a própria destruição da mulher.

    The objective of this text is to analyze the stranger's experience in the novel "Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge" by Rainer Maria Rilke through new interpretation perspectives based, for example, on Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theories. Living in a foreign metropolis (Paris), which he does not identify with yet, the novel's protagonist, Malte Laurids Brigge, discovers a new inner world through his shock with stranger's experiences in this environment. The revelation of his childhood memories and his ego projection through readings of narratives by others are his methods to search and assert his identity. O objetivo deste texto é analisar a experiência do estranho no romance "Die Aufzeichnungen des Malte Laurids Brigge", de Rainer Maria Rilke, através de novas perspectivas de interpretação apoiadas, por exemplo, nas teorias psicanalíticas de Sigmund Freud. Vivendo em uma cidade estrangeira (Paris), com a qual ainda não se identifica, o protagonista do romance, Malte Laurids Brigge, descobre um mundo interior novo através de seu choque com experiências do estranho nesse milieu. A revelação de recordações de sua infância e a projeção de seu ego em leituras de narrativas alheias são seus métodos para buscar e afirmar sua identidade.

    This article approaches the ambivalent relations between Musil and Freud. It proceeds in three sections. The first analises the spontaneous psychoanalytical intuitions Musil exposes in his first novel, "The confusions of young Törless". The psychological insights of the novelist accompany and also anticipate the discoveries of the father of psychoanalysis. The second section exposes the seminal studies of Corino and Henninger (among other authors) who see Musil's reserved attitude towards Freud as a symptomatic resistence and interpret the unconscious determination of his work. The third exposes other reasons (aesthetic and theoretical arguments) which explain the author's reluctance, without excluding the resistencetheory. ... Este artigo sobre as relações ambivalentes entre Musil e Freud procede em três etapas. Na primeira, analisamos as intuições psicanalíticas de Musil no seu primeiro romance, "O jovem Törless". Os 'insights' psicológicos do romancista acompanham e antecipam as descobertas clínicas do pai da Psicanálise. A segunda se debruça sobre os trabalhos seminais (Corino, Henninger, entre outros) que veem as reservas de Musil diante de Freud como resistências sintomáticas e evidenciam a determinação inconsciente de sua obra.     The objective of this paper is to make a reading of conceptual elements present in the Freudian view on poetry and literature, pointing out its problematic aspects, but also the relevant ones to the analysis of the aesthetic phenomenon. Initially, we review briefly the significant points in the tradition of critical comments on Freudian aesthetic reflections, then comment on the text "Creative Writers and Day-Dreaming" (1908), in which we employ the comparison with themes and concepts in the "Poetics" of Aristotle and in the "Critique of Judgment" of Kant. In the last part we opposed some of the concepts presented in this first text to the article "The Uncanny" (1919), where we propose a reading that makes a contrast of the role and importance given to the aesthetic dimension in both texts. ... O objetivo do texto é fazer uma leitura de elementos conceituais presentes na concepção freudiana sobre a poesia e a literatura, apontando aspectos problemáticos, como também os que se mostram pertinentes para análise do fenômeno estético. Inicialmente, passamos brevemente em revista pontos significativos de comentários críticos às reflexes estéticas freudianas da tradição, passando então a comentar o texto "Der Dichter und das Phantasieren" (1908), em que nos serviremos da comparação com temas e conceitos presents na "Poética" de Aristóteles e na "Kritik der Urteilskraft" de Kant. Na última parte, contrapomos alguns conceitos presentes neste primeiro texto ao artigo "Das Unheimliche" (1919), em que propomos uma leitura que faz contrastar o papel e importância conferidos à dimensão estética em ambos os textos. ...

    "O crime do professor de matemática", by Clarice Lispector, addresses the unconscious need for punishment arising from the feeling of guilt, which is an inexorable element of the human psyche. The man's mirroring in his pet leads him to an approximation of a possible awareness of this disorder, which culminates in the unavoidable abandonment of the dog. Based on Sigmund Freud's essays "Das Unheimliche" and "Das Unbehagen in der Kultur", we aim at understanding the origin of the doleful identification between these two characters in the narrated story, as well as the corollary of the culture that is responsible for the human sadness which the teacher is inevitably part of "O crime do professor de Matemática", de Clarice Lispector, aborda a necessidade inconsciente de punição advinda do sentimento de culpa, que constitui elemento inexorável da psique humana. O espelhamento do homem em seu animal o conduz à aproximação de uma possível consciência deste transtorno, fato que culmina no irremissível abandono do cão. Com base nos ensaios "O estranho" e "O mal–estar na civilização", de Sigmund Freud, almeja–se entender a origem da dolente identificação entre estes dois personagens narrada no conto, bem como o corolário da cultura, responsável pela tristeza humana com a qual o professor irremediavelmente se coaduna.
