    20 years of dispute over one and a half seconds of copied music? The dispute in the »Metal on Metal« (German: »Metall auf Metall«) case between the music group Kraftwerk and the composer Moses Pelham even occupied the European Court of Justice in 2019. It shows that copyright has become a socially contentious issue that has pushed its way out of the niche of the artistic sphere and into the everyday lives of almost everyone. This process has not gone unnoticed by academia, and yet academia is only just beginning to understand the implications and effects of this copyright expansion in more detail. Sociologist Georg Fischer provides the first empirical study of sampling in music that explicitly examines the impact of German copyright law on creative practice. He shows the abundance and diversity of creative circumvention strategies that have spread and taken root in the shadow of copyright law – and with which artists necessarily limit their own visibility as well as the aesthetic complexity and monetary exploitation of their works. 20 Jahre Streit um eineinhalb Sekunden kopierte Musik? Die Auseinandersetzung im Fall »Metall auf Metall« zwischen der Musikgruppe Kraftwerk und dem Komponisten Moses Pelham beschäftigte 2019 sogar den Europäischen Gerichtshof. Sie zeigt, dass das Urheberrecht zu einem gesellschaftlichen Streitthema geworden ist, das sich aus der Nische des künstlerischen Bereichs in den Alltag nahezu aller Menschen gedrängt hat. Dieser Prozess lief nicht unbemerkt von der Wissenschaft ab und dennoch ist diese gerade erst dabei, die Implikationen und Effekte dieser urheberrechtlichen Ausdehnung genauer zu verstehen. Der Soziologe Georg Fischer liefert die erste empirische Studie zum Sampling in der Musik, die explizit den Einfluss des deutschen Urheberrechts auf die kreative Praxis untersucht. Er zeigt die Fülle und Vielfalt an kreativen Umgehungsstrategien, die sich im Schatten des Urheberrechts ausgebreitet und verankert haben – und mit denen die Künstler_innen die eigene Sichtbarkeit sowie die ästhetische Komplexität und monetäre Verwertung ihrer Werke notgedrungen einschränken.

    This substantial contribution to Pentateuch research shows paradigmatically how the politico-geographical concepts from Genesis 14 and the concepts of the theology of promise in Gen 15 are taken up and specifically re-formed in Gen 17 and the final editorial layer.  The hypothesis that Genesis is a basic priestly document is challenged, and instead, Genesis 17 is acknowledged as the keystone which was created specially for the final compositional systematisation of Genesis as an immediate prelude to the publication of the Torah (approx. 400 BC) and left a lasting mark on the Biblical image of Abraham.

    Zusammenfassung: "With his groundbreaking award-winning study Kritik des Wachstumsmodells, Benjamin Ziemer is arguing for a change of paradigm in Old Testament literary criticism. He examines a representative list of empirical examples of editorial processes, including the Gilgamesh Epic, the Book of the Dead, books of the Bible and Dead Sea Scrolls. He shows that redactors who can be identified by external evidence never confined themselves to adding new material. Rather, they simultaneously adjusted or duplicated parts of the text, incorporated material from elsewhere or shortened their source texts. Until now, the bulk of redaction critical studies in Europe adhere to the presupposition of textual or literary 'growth'--assuming that multiple previous layers are to be found intact in the final texts.     This paper is the first to analyze the joint determinants of premiums and spreads in structured financial products, while also focusing on issuers' hedging costs. We evaluate more than 396,000 single stock discount certificates on an intraday basis in the German secondary market. We find that premiums and spreads are endogenous and negatively related to each other, and depend on different key determinants. The economically significant determinants of the premiums are mainly profit-related, i.e. dividends of the underlying, issuers' credit risk, lifecycle effect and competition, whereas hedging costs and risks are economically less important. However, initial hedging costs are also priced into the premium in the case of large inventory changes. The spread is mostly determined by hedging costs and risk components, such as initial hedging costs, rebalancing costs, volatility, scalper risk, and overnight gap risk, but also depends on dividends. Initial hedging costs appear to be more relevant than rebalancing costs.

    We examine the impact of dynamic hedging demand of German option and discount certificate markets on the autocorrelation of German stock price changes. We theoretically model the demand of liquidity providers in the discount certificate market, a structured financial product with a concave payoff profile, asking whether dynamic hedging by certificate issuers induces negative return autocorrelation in stock markets. We find empirical evidence that the hedging demand of option issuers has a positive impact on return autocorrelation, while the opposite holds for certificate issuers, whose hedging demand enhances the negative return autocorrelation in the stock market. We thus theoretically and empirically provide evidence that there are persistent spillover effects from option and certificate markets to stock markets due to dynamic hedging activities.
