    Which recent methodological innovations have occurred in the field of comparative literature? What are the critical paradigms behind the practices of comparative research today? These questions are the starting point of the present issue which brings together different comparative studies from the vantage points of: methodological and epistemological reflection about (in)comparability and difference; transversal phenomena of acculturation, networks and intercultural dialogues; the hybridity of (natural and conceptual) languages, translation and transposition. In this way, the studies presented in this volume hope to foster discussions about the foundation, the history, the limits and the methods of comparatives studies today. Quels renouvellements méthodologiques récents occupent la littérature comparée? Quels paradigmes critiques mobili­sent les pratiques de recherche comparatistes aujourd’hui? Ces interrogations marquent le point de départ de ce vo­lume, qui rassemble des études comparées dont les préoc­cupations convergent vers: une réflexion méthodologique et épistémologique sur l’(in)comparabilité et la différence; des phénomènes transversaux d’acculturation, de réseaux et de dialogues interculturels; l’hybridation des langages (naturels et conceptuels), la traduction et la transposition. À ce titre, les recherches poursuivies ici espèrent nourrir la discussion sur les fondements, l’histoire, le champ, les frontières et les méthodes du comparatisme littéraire au­jourd’hui.

    Par la transmission du « magnétisme animal » à ses patients, le médecin Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815) crut avoir révolutionné l'art de guérir. L'influence de ses théories s'étendit rapidement à toute l'Europe. Bientôt, le débat déborde le cadre de la médecine pour s'élargir à la littérature et à la philosophie. Les contributions du présent volume confrontent l'influence du mesmérisme subie par des auteurs français à celle exercée sur des auteurs allemands. Cette comparaison permet de constater l'unité du courant mesmériste dans les diverses littératures européennes du xixème siècle mais témoigne aussi des spécificités nationales dans sa réception. La question de l'héritage légué par Mesmer à l'époque actuelle est évoquée en guise de conclusion.

    « Fictions » et « traductions » : deux termes dont l'association paraît évidente, pour peu qu'elle nous évoque l'activité florissante de la traduction littéraire - combien peuvent se vanter de lire toujours en langue originale ? Or cette « évidence naturelle » élude une question cruciale : en deçà de la pratique courante de la traduction des textes littéraires, quel est ce nœud fondamental entre littérature et traduction qui nous révèle que le langage n'est pas seulement communicatif, mais aussi, et même essentiellement, esthétique et poétique ? Comment sommes-nous conduits à penser le rapport fiction-traduction pour que la « littérarité » du littéraire soit possible, et même réelle ? La pratique de la traduction, traditionnellement considérée comme « ancillaire », n'aurait-elle pas un rôle éthico-politique majeur à jouer dans la création du monde contemporain, forcément polyglotte ? Le présent volume tentera de prolonger ces questions par quelques études qui visent ce nœud fondamental entre littérature et traduction.

    Incontestablement, le grotesque aujourd'hui fascine. Depuis son origine, on l'a vu franchir les frontières des arts plastiques pour venir s'immiscer en littérature, évoluer à travers les époques, et quelquefois se faire oublier pour mieux ressurgir à certaines périodes critiques de l'Histoire, lorsque, tirant parti de son potentiel contestataire, d'aucuns s'en sont servi comme arme contre la culture dominante. Le fait est que le grotesque, sur le plan anthropologique au sens le plus large, touche diverses dimensions de l'agir humain. Cette publication propose des balises, des repérages ou des essais sur la question, ainsi que des tentatives originales de tester la force d'analyse de cet objet paradoxal qu'est le grotesque, essentiellement pour les études littéraires et philosophiques.

    Pour l'individu comme pour la société, la question de l'héritage est au cœur de la construction identitaire et des productions culturelles. L'héritage désigne à la fois le legs lui-même et le processus incluant la filiation et la transmission. En littérature, son traitement se révèle capital : on ne peut écrire sans transmettre et, du même coup, on s'inscrit dans une filiation quand ce ne serait que pour s'y inscrire en faux. Si l'Ancien Régime peut apparaître comme stable sous cet angle, les Lumières et surtout le Romantisme vont faire advenir, dans un certain tumulte, un mode paradoxal d'hériter. L'autonomie croissante de l'individu s'accompagne désormais d'une fatalité autre que celle du sang et des tares physiques ou sociales. Plus près de nous, la compilation parfois douloureuse des héritages aboutira au « droit au souvenir », voire au « devoir de mémoire », avant qu'un impératif de créativité dans la résilience ouvre aussi, salutairement, le droit - fût-il partiel ou temporaire - à l'oubli.

    Which recent methodological innovations have occurred in the field of comparative literature? What are the critical paradigms behind the practices of comparative research today? These questions are the starting point of the present issue which brings together different comparative studies from the vantage points of: methodological and epistemological reflection about (in)comparability and difference; transversal phenomena of acculturation, networks and intercultural dialogues; the hybridity of (natural and conceptual) languages, translation and transposition. In this way, the studies presented in this volume hope to foster discussions about the foundation, the history, the limits and the methods of comparatives studies today. Quels renouvellements méthodologiques récents occupent la littérature comparée? Quels paradigmes critiques mobili­sent les pratiques de recherche comparatistes aujourd’hui? Ces interrogations marquent le point de départ de ce vo­lume, qui rassemble des études comparées dont les préoc­cupations convergent vers: une réflexion méthodologique et épistémologique sur l’(in)comparabilité et la différence; des phénomènes transversaux d’acculturation, de réseaux et de dialogues interculturels; l’hybridation des langages (naturels et conceptuels), la traduction et la transposition. À ce titre, les recherches poursuivies ici espèrent nourrir la discussion sur les fondements, l’histoire, le champ, les frontières et les méthodes du comparatisme littéraire au­jourd’hui.
