Ihr Arbeitsschwerpunkt ist die Europäische Religionsgeschichte.- The volume focuses on the various representations of the Beyond in later Antiquity, a period of intense interaction and competition between various religious traditions and ideals of education. The concepts and images clustering around the Beyond form a crucial focal point for understanding the dynamics of religion and education in later Antiquity. Although Christianity gradually supersedes the pagan traditions, the literary representations of the Beyond derived from classical literature and transmitted through the texts read at school show a remarkable persistence: they influence Christian late antique writers and are still alive in medieval literature of the East and West. A specifically Christian Beyond develops only gradually, and coexists subsequently with pagan ideas, which in turn vary according to the respective literary and philosophical contexts. Thus, the various conceptualisations of the great existential unknown, serves here as a point of reference for mirroring the changes and continuities in Imperial and Late Antique religion, education, and culture, and opening up further perspectives into the Medieval world

    Ce travail porte sur les caractéristiques de l'éthique de soi talmudique, ses points de divergence et ses affinités avec d'autres systèmes éthiques du monde méditerranéen de la fin de l'Antiquité. À partir d'une analyse des sources rabbiniques, nous montrons que dans sa phase formatrice, le mouvement rabbinique a proposé une conception anthropologique et éthique qui se situe aux antipodes de celle qui émerge des écrits philosophiques et chrétiens des premiers siècles de notre ère. Les particularités de l'éthique de soi talmudique sont examinées à travers six thèmes qui sont au cœur des discussions éthiques rabbiniques : la repentance (teshouvah) ; les souffrances (yissourim) ; le rapport maître-disciple (rav-talmid) ; le mauvais penchant (yetzer ha-ra) ; la crainte de Dieu (yirah) et le rapport entre étude et action (talmud et ma'assé). En utilisant les travaux de Michel Foucault, Pierre Hadot et Vincent Descombes, nous montrons la pertinence de l'éthique rabbinique de soi dans l'histoire du sujet occidental, dans notre manière de le penser et d'articuler son rapport à la loi morale This work deals with the Talmudic ethics of the self, how it differs from other ethical systems of the Mediterranean world of the first centuries CE and in what ways it resembles these systems. Through analysis of texts from classical rabbinic Iiterature, we show that the rabbinic movement developed an anthropological and ethical conception that was dIfferent than the one we find in philosophical and Christian writings of the first centuries. The particularities of the rabbinic ethics of the sel : are studied through the analysis of six themes: all of which figure prominently in rabbinic ethical discussions: repentance (teshuvah), suffering (yissurim) ; master-disciple relationship (rav-talmid) ; the bad inclInation (yetzer ha-ra); the fear of God (yirah) and the relationship between study,and practice of the Law (talmud and ma 'assé). Using the works of Michel Foucault, PIerre Hadot and Vincent Descombes, we try to demonstrate the importance of the rabbinic ethics of the self to the history of the occidental subject and to our way of thinking it, and to articulate its relation to the moral law
