Die aus vier Kontinenten stammenden Beiträger*innen befassen sich mit der Frage, inwiefern die Fähigkeit, ästhetische, sprachliche und kulturelle Übergänge angesichts hoher Heterogenität hervorzubringen, Europa am ehesten ausmacht. Von Friedrich Nietzsche über Fatou Diome bis Yoko Tawada, von mehrsprachigen Räumen wie Siebenbürgen bis zur Mährischen Walachei untersuchen sie Texte, Semantiken und kulturelle Praktiken des Übergangs. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt dabei auf der deutsch-jüdischen Literatur, der Erinnerung an den Holocaust sowie postkolonialen Perspektiven

    This paper presents an analysis of the novel 'Die fremde Frau' by the writer Paul Zifferer (1879-1929) who came from Bystřice pod Hostýnem in Moravian Wallachia. It is a largely unknown, late naturalistic text which addresses national and social issues that were topical at the end of the 19th century. The novel offers a critical reflection on both bourgeois society and national tensions in Moravian Wallachia. It oscillates between conservativism and revolution, between historical authenticity and fiction. Moreover, the analysis shows that German literature from Moravian Wallachia deserves a serious and comprehensive exploration - as does Paul Zifferer's work, especially in the context of German or Austrian naturalism and aesthetic modernism.

    Der Beitrag enthält eine Analyse des 1927 erschienenen Romans Der Sprung ins Ungewisse von Paul Zifferer, einem wenig bekannten, aus Mähren stammenden österreichischen Schriftsteller. Dieses Prosawerk bietet eine bemerkenswerte Auffassung des Phänomens Zentrum und Peripherie aus territorialer, sozialer, psychologischer, kultureller und politischer Sicht. Überdies stellt es ein wenig erforschtes Kapitel der literarischen Moderne dar. In conclusion, it could be noted that the novel by Paul Zifferer Der Sprung ins Ungewisse 'The Leap into the Uncertain' (1927) covers a broad scale of applications of the centre and periphery dichotomy. It concerns various fields: politics, economy, psychology, culture. Finally, this topic receives predominantly an ethical and metaphysical dimension. The symbolic initiation act at the beginning of the novel, Anton Muhr's attempt at suicide, did induce that. The novel provides a link between aesthetic modernism and the modern, pragmatic industrial world. The interculturality and multiplicity of identity of the modern man represent basic parts of the new world order. The main character Anton Muhr is searching for truth and the meaning of things in the reality of modern world. Paul Zifferer's work (1879-1929) belongs to unexplored chapters of German or rather Austrian literary history. This contribution should initiate such research.

    Die vorliegende Studie bietet eingangs allgemeine Erwägungen über die Rolle des literarischen Kanons im 21. Jahrhundert und über eine mögliche Redefinition von Rollen der Akteur/innen der Kanonisierungsprozesse. Auf dieser Grundlage wird ein Konzept entworfen, dessen Ziel es ist, die Nützlichkeit und Notwendigkeit einer neuen Sicht auf vergessene und nichtkanonisierte Texte zu zeigen. Die Materialbasis bildet diesbezüglich die deutschgeschriebene Literatur aus der Mährischen Walachei, die auch in groben Zügen als literarisches Phänomen skizziert wird. Analysiert werden ausgewählte poetische Werke der aus diesem Gebiet der Böhmischen Länder stammenden und weitgehend unbekannten Autorin Susanne Schmida (1894–1981).

    Der Beitrag enthält eine Analyse der Repräsentationsweisen der mährischen Walachei in den Werken der aus dieser Region stammenden, hier ebenden oder vorübergehend wirkenden deutschschreibenden Autoren. In der Lyrik Nina Wostalls (1901–1996) ist die Walachei Zentrum einer mythisch anmutenden Gemeinschaft mit multikulturellem Hintergrund. Marianne Bohrmann (1849–1916) zeigt die Walachei in ihrem Prosaband "Mährische Novellen" als beschauliche Idylle, die eine Gegenwelt zu allem Neuen und Authentischen darstellt, das sich gegen gesellschaftliche Konventionen stemmt. In Paul Zifferers (1879–1929) Roman "Die fremde Frau" entpuppen sich die idyllische Gegend als permanentes Konfliktfeld und die harmonische Gemeinschaft als Quelle für soziale und nationale Probleme. Walter Seidl (1905–1937) transformiert in seinem Roman "Der Berg der Liebenden“ die mährischwalachische Idylle in eine moderne Utopie. The paper presents an analysis of the forms of literary representation of Moravian Wallachia in the works of German-writing authors who came from this region or lived here for a certain period of time. In the poems of Nina Wostall (1901–1996) is Moravian Wallachia the centre of a mythical community with multicultural background. In her prose volume "Moravian Novellas" Marianne Bohrmann (1849–1916) portrays Wallachia as a cozy idyll and a counter-world to everything new and authentic, protesting against social conventions. In Paul Zifferers (1879–1929) novel "The Strange Woman" the idyllic area turns out to be a permanent field of conflict and the harmonious community appears to be a source of social and national problems. In his novel "The Mountain oft the Lovers" Walter Seidl (1905–1937) transforms this idyll into a modern utopia.

    This paper presents an analysis of the novel 'Die fremde Frau' by the writer Paul Zifferer (1879-1929) who came from Bystřice pod Hostýnem in Moravian Wallachia. It is a largely unknown, late naturalistic text which addresses national and social issues that were topical at the end of the 19th century. The novel offers a critical reflection on both bourgeois society and national tensions in Moravian Wallachia. It oscillates between conservativism and revolution, between historical authenticity and fiction. Moreover, the analysis shows that German literature from Moravian Wallachia deserves a serious and comprehensive exploration - as does Paul Zifferer's work, especially in the context of German or Austrian naturalism and aesthetic modernism.
