    "Jede Unterweisung und jedes verständige Erwerben von Wissen entsteht aus bereits vorhandener Kenntnis", beginnt Aristoteles seinen Text und entwickelt seine Lehre vom wissenschaftlichen Beweis, d. h. vom apodiktischen Schluss. Er deckt die Grundprinzipien der Erkenntnis auf, damit ein deduktivisch-wissenschaftliches Wissen möglich wird. Außer einer Präzisierung dieser Lehre unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Wahrheitsfindung werden auch Regeln für die sachgemäße Aufstellung von Definitionen unterbreitet – ein fundamentaler Beitrag zur Entstehung des Wissenschaftsbegriffs. Die Zweite Analytik des Aristoteles ist seit der Spätantike so kontinuierlich wie kaum eine andere philosophische Schrift diskutiert und ausgelegt worden.

This collection of essays deals with the rise and development of early Christian poetry, discussing its techniques and its theoretical foundation. The individual papers concern specimina of Hebrew, Syriac, Greek and Latin poetry and study the various and partly conflicting traditions from which it originated. The biblical examples, e.g. of the Psalms, held great authority, but on the other hand it was impossible to break away from the models of classical Greco-Roman poetry, although these were deemed dangerous because of the pagan content and excessive cult of literary art. The book shows how the problems involved were solved in different ways, which justified the use of pagan literary accomplishments for singing the praises of the Lord

It also compares the theological thought of Asterius with Origen's and Arius' theology. The second part consists of the 77 theological fragments of Asterius of Cappadocia with a German translation. Lucian's Alexander the False Prophet is the only literary testimony to a highly influential cult of the 'New Asclepios Glycon' which, as archaeological evidence continues to document, spread all over the eastern Mediterranean basin throughout the second and third centuries AD. This book offers an analysis of the complete manuscript tradition, a newly constituted text and a German translation. The extensive introduction deals with (1) the archaeological evidence, (2) the question of Lucian's historical reliability, (3) the reasons for Lucian's opposition to the oracle of Abonuteichos, (4) the institutions and the teaching of the cult at Abonuteichos. Furthermore, there is a commentary on all philological and historical questions and on those issues relevant to the history of religions. An examination of the arguments recently put forward against the authenticity of the 12th letter yielded that it cannot be denied Ovidian authorship. Leonardo Bruni Aretino ( c. 1370-1444) was one of the most gifted and prolific translators of Greek authors in the early Italian Renaissance and a bestseller whose works often circulated in more than a hundred manuscripts. Moreover, Homer ranks as the most admired Greek poet in the Renaissance. The 'Orationes Homeri', id est Bruni's translation of three speeches from the embassy scene, are of focal interest in the studies of Renaissance literature in its many aspects: survival of ancient authors and their influence on Renaissance literature and literary theory, translation theory and practice, knowledge of Greek poetic language. The author uses an extensive study of the five Greek novels preserved by tradition since Roman times (Chariton, Chaireas and Callirhoe , Longus, Daphnis and Chloe , Xenophon of Ephesus, Ephesiaca , Achilles Tatius, Leucippe and Clitophon , Heliodorus, Ethiopica ) to show how the novel form, from its origins, has been based upon the repetition of commonplaces, τόποι, which allows an interplay with the reader. The commonest of these commonplaces, love-Eros, provides the plot of the five novels, in an order which is itself topical: meeting and love at first sight, wounds of love and lovesickness, lovers separated, lovers put to the test by the sea and by pirates, lovers reunited. The heroes of Greek novels, always young, good-looking and well-born (even if their identities are left unclear), allow for easy reader identification. From Xenophon of Ephesus (the most primitive form of the novel) to the Ethiopica (a true work of art), the Greek novel had already explored all the main narrative possibilities of the genre

Er führt den Leser in das bewegte literarische Leben in Berlin Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts und gibt eine Fülle neuer Aufschlüsse über die Welt Fontanes, über die Personen, mit denen er zu tun hatte, und rückt mit Friedrich Eggers einen Mann ins Blickfeld, der bislang kaum Beachtung gefunden hat. Eggers, der das literarischer Vereinsleben prägte, spielte in den fünfziger Jahren für Fontanes literarischen und beruflichen Werdegang eine wichtige Rolle. Fontane hat Eggers zeitlebens skeptisch gegenüber gestanden, aber gleichzeitig von seiner Hilfs- und Aufopferungsbereitschaft profitiert Für die Kommentierung konnte der umfangreiche Nachlaß von Friedrich Eggers erstmalig intensiv genutzt werden, so daß die Edition Informationen bietet, die weit über die Beziehung der beiden Briefschreiber hinausweisen.

    Die mittelhochdeutsche Verserzählung von Helmbrecht, dem 'verlorenen Sohn' des Meiers (Bauern) Helmbrecht, der gegen den Willen des Vaters seinen Stand verläßt, als Raubritter sein Unwesen treibt und dafür vom Richter durch Verstümmelung bestraft, vom Vater verstoßen und endlich den von Bauern aufgeknüpft wird, liegt hier in neuer Auflage vor. Der Text, in Kurt Ruhs Revision der Ausgabe Friedrich Panzers als Standardausgabe dieses Werkes bewährt, ist bis auf wenige Stellen unverändert, die Einleitung wurde an einigen Stellen ergänzt, Bibliographie und Wort- und Sacherklärungen wurden auf den neuesten Stand gebracht.

    Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich in ihrem Hauptteil mit den Beziehungen, welche das dichterische Werk des russischen Chansonsängers Vladimir Vysockij (1938-1980) mit anderen Texten in vielfältiger Weise eingeht. Nach einem Einleitungskapitel, in dem Leben, Werk und Reaktionen auf V.s Schaffen zu dessen Lebzeiten vorgestellt, sowie Fragen zum Genre des literarischen Chansons und zur Textedition behandelt werden, ist das zweite Kapitel (2.0.-2.5.) dem eigentlichen Thema der Arbeit, den transtextuellen Beziehungen (im Sinne von G. Genette) gewidmet. Im Schlußkapitel werden die Ergebnisse im Hinblick auf deren Relevanz für das Textverstehen untersucht. Ein weiterer, nur für Vysockij-Spezialisten relevanter Band umfaßt ein Register der Texte V.s, geordnet nach dem ersten Vers (sog. "Zentralkartei"), mit den wesentlichen biblio- und phonographischen Angaben, sowie ein Verzeichnis nach Texttiteln mit Verweisen auf die Textanfänge (sog. "Titelkartei").

    Jurij Karlovič Oleša war einer der bedeutenden Schriftsteller der frühen Sowjetzeit, jener in literarischer Hinsicht lebendigsten Periode, nämlich der 20ger Jahre. Tiefgehenden und vielseitigen Einblick gerade in diese neuere (wie auch die neueste) russische Literatur, ebenso wie belebteres Verständnis für literaturtheoretische Betrachtungsweisen vermittelte mir Professor Dr. Wolfgang Kasack, dem ich auch für die entscheidende Anregung zu der Dissertation und die wertvollen Hinweise während der Arbeit zu größtem Dank verpflichtet bin. Die Arbeit wurde gefördert durch ein Promotionsstipendium der Universität Köln, in dessen Rahmen zwei Aufenthalte in der Sowjetunion es erlaubten, in Deutschland nicht zugängliche Literatur miteinzubeziehen.
