The objective of the article was to critique two cognitive strategies used by both proponents of Christian and secular moralities to justify an exclusionary relationship between them, thus contributing to the conflict between them. They are the cognitive strategies of foundationalism and incompatibilism. The objective was also to resume a critical discussion of these two strategies in Wentzel van Huyssteen’s publications. The method followed was, first, to provide a historical reconstruction of the relationship between Christian faith and the secular and, second, a critical analysis of Richard Dawkins’ foundationalist view of secular morality and Stanley Hauerwas’ incompatibilist view of Christian morality. Findings were that influential views of a positive relationship between Christian faith and secular morality are found in history, and that the foundationalist view of Dawkins and the incompatibilist view of Hauerwas are both untenable and contextually inappropriate. This led to the conclusion that there is no justification for the view that Christian morality and secular moralities necessarily exclude one another. The remaining challenge to find an alternative approach that would allow for a more positive relationship between these two moralities and provide guidance on adaptations they need to make was also identified. Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: The Christian ethical research undertaken in the article drew on research findings in the fields of Christian Ethics, Church History, philosophy, evolutionary ethics and psychology. Research results present Christian and philosophical ethics with the challenge to find an acceptable alternative for the problematic foundationalist and incompatibilist approaches.

; The crisis and the disappearance of the traditional peasant world are dealt with in many ways in contemporary French literature. In contrast to the works of the new regional novel, the regionalist works from the perspective of the writing peasants themselves affected by structural change are hardly known, if at all. With Joël Robin, the article presents a writing peasant from the French West who relates the decline of peasant culture to increasing secularisation. Understanding his writing as a “peasant testament” and documentation of peasant virtues for city dwellers and subsequent generations, his regionalist texts are both a praise of creation and the merits of French small farmers as well as a nostalgic transfiguration of the good old days and a culturally pessimistic social analysis, and finally culminate in a plea for Christian-motivated sustainability and ecology. ; La crise et la disparition du monde paysan traditionnel sont traitées de diverses manières dans la littérature française contemporaine. Contrairement aux œuvres du nouveau roman régional, les œuvres régionalistes ...

With the starting point of all Christian places (114 places) in the virtual world Second Life (SL), this article aims to study how SL is part of a negotiation process between old offline media and new online media, between established traditions and innovation. The questions addressed in this article are how such places are constructed, the constructor’s intentions and how they are related to established traditions. The idea behind this study was that the owners (studied through a questionnaire) set the agenda for what is going on at the place they own, and for how the places are constructed. The virtual world gives almost endless possibilities to create any form of place for Christian community and celebration, and people are limited only by their imaginations, but still tradition play an important aspect of the constructions. Concepts such as ‘remediation’, ‘hybridity’, and ‘affordance’ are used to interpret the places and their relation to traditions and the so called real world.
