    Während die Domkapitel des Alten Reichs meist als Wahlgremien der Fürstbischöfe und Adelskorporationen untersucht wurden, nimmt diese Arbeit die Verwaltungs- und Regierungspraxis des Bamberger Domkapitels aus einer wissensgeschichtlichen Perspektive in den Blick. Seine aktive Regierungstätigkeit sowie seine Bemühungen um ein eigenständiges Archiv und eine funktionierende Verwaltung zeigen, dass das Kapitel in wesentlichen Bereichen vom Fürstbischof unabhängig war. Weil sich seine Schriftlichkeit zudem zum zentralen Gedächtnis des Hochstifts entwickelte, war das Domkapitel im Zeitalter der Reformation und Konfessionalisierung für dessen Existenz unverzichtbar. Es gestaltete Staatsbildungsprozesse im geistlichen Wahlstaat maßgeblich mit. Whereas early modern cathedral chapters have mostly been studied as electoral bodies of prince-bishops and noble corporations, this study examines the administrative and governmental practices of the Bamberg cathedral chapter from the perspective of the history of knowledge. Its active governance and its efforts to establish an independent archive as well as a functioning administration show that the chapter was largely independent of the prince-bishop. As its written records also emerged as the central memory of the prince-bishopric, the cathedral chapter was indispensable for its existence in the age of the Reformation and Confessionalization. It played a decisive role in shaping state-building processes in the ecclesiastical electoral state.

    Interviewing is a decisive stage of most processes that match candidates to firms and organizations. This paper studies how and why a candidate's interview outcome depends on the other candidates interviewed by the same evaluator. We use large-scale data from high-stakes admission and hiring processes, where candidates are quasi-randomly assigned to evaluators and time slots. We find that the individual assessment decreases as the quality of other candidates assigned to the same evaluator increases. The influence of the previous candidate stands out, leading to a negative autocorrelation in evaluators' votes of up to 40% and distorting final admission and hiring decisions. Our findings are in line with a contrast effect model where evaluators form a benchmark through associative recall. We assess potential changes in the design of interview processes to mitigate contrasting against the previous candidate.

    Procrastination is often attributed to time-inconsistent preferences but may also arise when individuals derive anticipatory utility from holding optimistic beliefs about their future effort costs. This study provides a rigorous empirical test for this notion of ‘motivated procrastination’. In a longitudinal experiment over four weeks, individuals must complete a cumbersome task of unknown length. We find that exogenous variation in scope for motivated reasoning results in optimistic beliefs among workers, which causally increase the deferral of work to the future. The roots for biased beliefs stem from motivated memory, such that procrastination may persist even if uncertainty is eventually resolved.

Während Heins Erzählduktus oft den Anschein von objektiven Chroniken erweckt, entlarven destabilisierende Erzählverfahren die Texte in ihrer Fiktionalität. Richard Slipp unterzieht Werke Heins aus über vierzig Jahren einer narratologischen Analyse. Damit stellt er sich gegen das Gros der Hein-Forschung, in dem vor allem die inhaltliche Ebene und der behauptete historische Bezug dominieren. Die aufgedeckte Selbstreflexivität Christoph Heins eröffnet so bisher unbekannte Sichtweisen auf das Schaffen des Schriftstellers.
