    Cet ouvrage étudie les conditions d'émergence historiques et discursives du " droit de (la) traduction " et du droit qui l'administre : le droit d'auteur. Privilégiant une approche essentiellement archéologique, l'auteur montre comment la conception classique de la traduction a joué un rôle sensible dans la formation du discours juridique qui a contribué à l'avènement de l'auteur et de son droit tels que conçus aujourd'hui. L'auteur examine les implications culturelles, politiques et éthiques du droit de traduire, surtout pour les pays en développement, engageant par là une perspective postcoloniale. Soucieuse d'une meilleure diffusion du patrimoine culturel mondial, la politique du droit de traduire qu'il propose n'interroge pas seulement le droit d'auteur comme catalyseur de la marchandisation de la production intellectuelle, mais également le droit international comme instrument de l'impérialisme culturel de la mondialisation.     Zusammenfassung: "Between 1780 and 1937, Jews in Germany produced numerous new translations of the Hebrew Bible into German. Intended for Jews who were trilingual, reading Yiddish, Hebrew, and German, they were meant less for religious use than to promote educational and cultural goals. Not only did translations give Jews vernacular access to their scripture without Christian intervention, but they also helped showcase the Hebrew Bible as a work of literature and the foundational text of modern Jewish identity. This book is the first in English to offer a close analysis of German Jewish translations as part of a larger cultural project. Looking at four distinct waves of translations, Abigail Gillman juxtaposes translations within each that sought to achieve similar goals through differing means. As she details the history of successive translations, we gain new insight into the opportunities and problems the Bible posed for different generations and gain a new perspective on modern German Jewish history.+--(Amazon.)

C'est souvent aussi, paradoxalement, une certaine méconnaissance de la langue d'arrivée - leur propre langue maternelle - qui les handicape, encore une fois en raison d'une formation axée davantage sur les mises en garde que sur l'exploration des merveilleuses possibilités de cette langue. À l'affût depuis plus de trente ans de tous ces obstacles, et cherchant à les lever sans sacrifier une rigueur bien comprise et judicieusement appliquée, François Lavallée livre ici le résultat de ses nombreuses recherches et réflexions. C'est ainsi qu'on verra que la traduction de as n'est pas aussi simple qu'elle en a l'air, alors que la traduction de above pourrait l'être plus qu'on ne le croit. Que le mot on a sa place, mais pas n'importe laquelle, dans un texte administratif, et qu'on se trompe souvent en traduisant des mots simples comme on behalf of ou verify. Que l'animisme n'est pas toujours le monstre qu'on s'est fait décrire, et que la meilleure solution pour éviter le zeugme n'est pas toujours la recette apprise à l'école. Et, surtout, qu'il y a un tas de mots français utiles et efficaces qui sont là, à notre disposition, et auxquels on ne pense tout simplement pas."--
