    Die Studie geht der Frage nach, wie Fachtexte gelesen, für Forschungszwecke reproduziert und in neue Texte intergriert werden. Von besonderem Interesse sind Faktoren, die die genannten Prozesse beeinflussen. Situative Faktoren betreffen die Einbindung rezeptiver und produktiver Prozesse in konkrete soziale, kulturelle und historische Kontexte, den behandelten Gegenstand u.a. Individuenspezifische Größen ergeben sich mit den Zielen, der Motivation oder dem Status des Wissenschaftlers. Die Darstellung stützt sich auf empirische Daten und ist interdisziplinär orientiert. Textlinguistische Ansätze werden durch Konzepte aus der Kognitionspsychologie und der Schreibforschung ergänzt. The study inquires into the way in which specialist (scholarly and scientific) texts are reproduced for research purposes and integrated into new texts. Of especial interest are factors influencing these processes. Situative factors have a bearing on the incorporation of receptive and productive processes into concrete social, cultural, and historical contexts, on the subject under discussion and various other things. Specific individual factors depend on the aims, motivation, or status of the scholar/scientist in question. The discussion is based on empirical data and is interdisciplinary in its orientation. Text-linguistic approaches are supplemented by concepts drawn from cognitive psychology and research on writing.

    An populärmedizinischen Texten von der frühen Neuzeit bis zur Gegenwart wird gezeigt, wie sich eine kommunikative Zwischenwelt zwischen Wissenschaft und Alltag entfaltet und wie der Transfer zwischen Fachsprache und Alltagssprache geleistet wird. Der zeitliche Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem 18. und 19. Jahrhundert. Es zeigt sich, daß wissenschaftliche Konzeptualisierungen in Ausschnitten übernommen, Erkenntnismethoden punktuell offengelegt, Fachtermini eingeführt und Teilbedeutungen erklärt werden. Gleichzeitig sind die Darstellungen an den Wissensstand und den Erkenntnisstil von Laien angepaßt: Metaphorische Konzepte bieten Anknüpfungsmöglichkeiten an alltäglich Bekanntes; die thematisch-inhaltliche Auswahl und Fokussierung, Bedeutungserklärungen und der Einbezug der alltäglichen Perspektive sind Formen der Adressatenorientierung in der fachexternen Vermittlung. Die Vermittlungsvarietäten werden zur Klärung ihres theoretischen Status auf das Varietätensystem des Deutschen bezogen; die fachexterne Vermittlung wird wissenssoziologisch bestimmt und von anderen Formen des Wissenstransfers abgehoben. Popular medical texts from the early modern age to the present are drawn upon to show how an intermediary communicative world has developed between science and everyday life and how the transfer between specialist language and the scientific world on the one hand and everyday language and the everyday world on the other is managed in such texts. It transpires that non-specialist communication is oriented both to science and the world of the everyday, albeit in different ways. With a view to clarifying their theoretical status, the varieties thus identified are related to the system of varieties in German. Non-specialist communication is defined and distinguished from other forms of knowledge transfer.
