    Regardless of what method is chosen for formal religious education, the fundamental principle of all catechetical activity in the Catholic Church is fidelity to the Word of God and the concrete needs of the faithful. This article will argue, however, that fidelity to the Word of God falls short of the requirements of the Catholic Church in the three religious education curriculum schemes that dominate current religious education in Australia and England and Wales. Utilising a set of "best practice" principles drawn from documents of the Catholic Church and developed by the author in an unpublished doctoral thesis this article identifies and describes practices which misrepresent and distort Scripture. In its own terms, good hermeneutics should be a priority for Catholic religious education. This article reveals significant hermeneutical problems with prominent Catholic religious education programmes in three countries.

    After a survey of recent approaches to the study of Paul's use of Scripture, the four main chapters explore the use of Isa. 54:1 in Gal. 4:27, the catena of scriptural texts in 2 Cor. 6:16-18, Hos. 1:10 and 2:23 in Rom. 9:25-26 and Isa. 57:19 in Eph. 2:17.In each case, the ancienwriter seeks to place the letter in its historical context and rhetorical situation, identify the significance of any conflations or modifications that have taken place in the citation process, analyse the citation's function within its immediate context, compare its use by Paul with the various ways in which the text is interpreted and appropriated by other Second Temple writers, and evaluate the main proposals offered as explanations for the riddle posed by the citation. That done, he offers his own account of the hermeneutic at work, based on an analysis of the explicit and implicit hermeneutical pointers through which the letter guides its readers in their appropriation of Scripture.This book compares the hermeneutical approaches of the four letters and draws conclusionsconcerning the interplay of continuity and discontinuity between Scripture and gospel in Paul's letters and the relationship between grace and Gentile inclusion in his theology

Kraus: Hebrew Psalm 91 / Greek Psalm 90: Collections and Contexts, and a Text of Authority Recent scholarship on the history of the biblical canons has increasingly recognised that the Jewish and Christian Bibles were not formed independently of each other but amid controversial debate and competition. But what does it mean that the formation of the Christian Bible cannot be separated from the developments that led to the Jewish Bible? The articles in this collection start with the assumption that the authorisation of writings had already begun in Israel and Judaism before the emergence of Christianity and was continued in the first centuries CE by Judaism and Christianity in their respective ways. They deal with a broad range of sources, such as writings which came to be part of the Hebrew Bible, literature from Qumran, the Septuagint, or early Jewish apocalypses.     Das Studienobjekt ist The Book of Mormon (1830), welches höchst selbstreflexiv ist. Die Studie folgt dem Impuls des Affective Turn und nutzt die spezifische Entwicklung des Begriffs des Postsäkularen (Jürgen Habermas) nach Burkhard Hasebrink und Peter Strohschneider. In der Studie wird die Kategorie Heilige Schrift betrachtet – Texte, die dem Prozess der Scripturalization (Seth Perry) unterliegen. Viele solche Texte wurden auf einen transzendenten Schreibbefehl (Ursula Peters) hin geschrieben und werden von Gläubigen als Epiphanie (Mircea Eliade) betrachtet. Die besonderen Eigenschaften und das Selbstverständnis solcher Texte macht einen säkular-wissenschaftlichen Zugang besonders schwierig. Die Studie betont die Performativität (J. L. Austin) solcher Texte und entwickelt einen Ansatz, die Performativität des geschriebenen Textes zu erfassen. Sie hinterfragt das Konzept von Heiliger Schrift „als Literatur“ mit dem pragmatisch-historisierenden Literaturbegriff von Fotis Jannidis, Gerhard Lauer und Simone Winko. Der Textbegriff beruht auf Konrad Ehlichs Überlieferungstext. Die selbstreflexiven textimmanenten Rezeptions-Anweisungen von The Book of Mormon werden mit der südasiatischen Rasa-Ästhetik gefasst, insbesondere anhand der Dhvani-Schule der Theoretiker Ānandavardhana und Abhinavagupta. Die Ästhetik-Tradition betont das Primat der empathisch-affektiven Kunsterfahrung, und die Dhvani-Schule behauptet, dass die affektive Gesamtbedeutung eines Werks in der emotionalen Entwicklung des Protagonisten liegt. Rasadhvani schlägt zwei unterschiedliche jedoch komplementäre Lesemethoden für Heilige Schrift vor: als śāstranaye (Glaubenslehre) und als kāvyanaye (affektive Poesie). Die verschiedenen theoretischen Begriffe werden weitestgehend aus dem Text heraus legitimiert, z. B. wird die Fiktionalität (Jannidis, Lauer und Winko) durch die Linse der utopischen Methode (Hans-Jürgen Krysmanski) betrachtet.
