Writing and the Articulation of Postqualitative Research is a collection of experimental essays on the implications of articulating or performing qualitative research from postqualitative philosophies. Although writing has been an integral part of qualitative research, for better or worse, throughout the history of the field, the recent emergence of postqualitative inquiry necessitates a reconsideration of writing. This collection of international authors explores the process and practice of writing in qualitative research from an onto-epistemological perspective, engaging with temporal, spatial, relational, social-cultural, and affective concepts and dilemmas such as philosophical alignment, advocacy in research, and the privileging of written academic language for research dissemination. The exploration of these questions can help qualitative researchers in the social sciences and humanities consider how modalities and processes of writing can alter, shift, and challenge the ways in which they articulate their research. Thus, rather than writing being a conveyor of the events happening during data collection, or used to analyze data or display results, the authors in this book consider writing as a primary agent in the research process. This book has been designed for scholars in the social sciences and humanities who want to rethink how they use writing in their research endeavors and especially ones who are considering engaging with postqualitative research

"Sadriddin Ayni (1878-1954) was a Tajik intellectual, regarded by many as one of the most important writers in the country's history. This book provides a translation of two historical monographs by Ayni: Is'yoni Muqanna (Muqanna's Rebellion) and Qahramoni Khalqi Tojik Temurmalik (The Tajik People's Hero Temur Malik). These works tell the story of two great Tajik heroes who fought against the Arabs and the Mongols. Besides the translations, the book discusses Ayni's life and work, highlighting his role, especially through these two monographs, in awakening and strengthening Tajik national consciousness. In addition, the book provides detailed background information on the historical events portrayed in the epics"--...

Personal Narrative Performance and Storytelling: A Method of Composition from Action to Text offers a practical method for composing and performing personal narrative stories for artistic and academic purposes. It is designed to make storytelling accessible to seasoned performers and people who are engaging with the artform for the first time. The author's unique method of composing stories from action to text privileges oral composition over writing. It draws on anecdotes from the author's many years of coaching storytellers to illustrate concepts throughout the book, making it entertaining and user-friendly. The methods contained in this book can help students and scholars communicate theoretical and scholarly arguments about culture, gender, race, and the environment. Anyone looking to harness the power of personal storytelling to speak about the political and the personal - in a classroom or on a stage - will find Personal Narrative Performance and Storytelling: A Method of Composition from Action to Text of great use. Additionally, the book will be of interest to qualitative researchers and those applying autoethnographic and storytelling methods in communication studies and other related social science and arts disciplines

"Departing Radically in Academic Writing (DRAW) seeks to show qualitative researchers that there are ways to embrace creatively alternative approaches to writing, whilst fulfilling the demands of an academic tenure system. Putting forward playful, arts-based and creative writing / fiction approaches to writing up research, the contributions in this chapter demonstrate how theorisation can happen in different ways, particularly, for younger career scholars struggling with their thesis submissions. Some of the contributions in the book come from those who have successfully defended a 'DRAWn' thesis. While this is not a handbook or 'how to', it does show DRAW and radical departure work can work in practice without disadvantaging the researcher. Each chapter includes Author's Notes on the chapter, and Radical Writing Prompts to stimulate creative thinking. Drawing on the work of Sara Ahmed, Ruth Behar, bell hooks, Helene Cixous, Virginia Woolf, Laurel Richardson and other literary and creative feminist, qualitative thinkers, Departing Radically in Academic Writing will appeal to graduate students and researchers in Education, the social sciences and humanities who are interested to advance critical thinking through radically departured work"--...

"This book examines different forms and practices of queer media, that is, the films, websites, zines and film festivals produced by, for and about LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) people in China in the first two decades of the twenty-first century. It traces how queer communities have emerged in urban China and the pivotal role that community media have played in the process. It also explores how these media shape community cultures and perform the role of social and political activism in a country where queer identities have only recently emerged and explicit forms of social activism are under serious political constraints. Importantly, because queer media is "niche" and "narrowcasting" rather than "broadcasting" and "mass communication", the subject compels a rethinking of some often-taken-for-granted assumptions about how media relates to the state, the market and individuals. Overall, the book reveals a great deal about queer communities and identities, queer activism and about media and social and political attitudes in China"--

Sections cover digital methods, critical curation and research futures, with theoretical and practical chapters framed around key areas of activity including modelling collections, data-driven analysis, and thinking through building. These are linked through the concept of 'ambitious generosity,' a way of working to pursue large-scale research questions while supporting and enabling other research areas and approaches, both within and beyond the academy"..

Bringing together interdisciplinary leaders in methodology and arts-based research (ABR), this comprehensive handbook explores the synergies between artistic and research practices and addresses issues in designing, implementing, evaluating, and publishing ABR studies. Coverage includes the full range of ABR genres, including those based in literature (such as narrative and poetic inquiry); performance (music, dance, playbuilding); visual arts (drawing and painting, collage, installation art, comics); and audiovisual and multimethod approaches. Each genre is described in detail and brought to life with robust research examples. Team approaches, ethics, and public scholarship are discussed, as are innovative ways that ABR is used within creative arts therapies, psychology, education, sociology, health sciences, business, and other disciplines. The companion website includes selected figures from the book in full color, additional online-only figures, and links to online videos of performance pieces.

"Writing Feminist Autoethnography explores the personal-is-political relationship between autoethnography and feminist theory and practice. Each chapter introduces the lives and works of a range of feminist thinkers and writers, and considers the ways in which their thinking and writing might come to be in relation with our own personal-is-political thinking, and writing work as feminist autoethnographers. The book begins with an acknowledgement of the author's positionality as a white-settler-colonial-woman in relation with Yanyuwa, Garrwa, Mara and Kudanji Aboriginal women. This positionality has continued to resonate deeply with the responses and sensibilities the author holds as a feminist autoethnographer to move beyond coloniality. She explores the writing of Virginia Woolf, Simone Weil, Simone de Beauvoir, Helene Cixous, Kathleen Stewart, bell hooks, and Ruth Behar with critical affect to embrace, embody, and engage with feminist thinking, wondering, and feeling. The book creatively and performatively explores what it means to live a feminist life as an autoethnographer. This book will define and conceptualize feminist autoethnography for all qualitative researchers, especially those interested in critical autoethnography, and scholars in gender studies and communication"--...

Feminist Speculations and the Practice of Research-Creation provides a unique introduction to research-creation as a methodology, and a series of exemplifications of research-creation projects in practice with a range of participants including secondary school students, artists, and academics. In conversation with leading scholars in the field, the book outlines research-creation as transdisciplinary praxis embedded in queer-feminist anti-racist politics. It provides a methodological overview of how the author approaches research-creation projects at the intersection of literary arts, textuality, artistic practice, and pedagogies of writing, drawing on concepts related to the feminist materialisms, including speculative thought, affect theories, queer theory, and process philosophy. Further, it troubles representationalism in qualitative research in the arts. The book demonstrates how research-creation operates through the making of or curating of art or cultural productions as an integral part of the research process. The exemplification chapters engage with the author's research-creation events with diverse participants all focused on text-based artistic projects including narratives, inter-textual marginalia art, postcards, songs, and computer-generated scripts. The book is aimed at graduate students and early career researchers who mobilize the literary arts, theory, and research in transdisciplinary settings

The Generic Qualitative Approach to a Dissertation in the Social Sciences: A Step by Step Guide is a practical guide for the graduate students and faculty planning and executing a generic qualitative dissertation in the social sciences. Generic qualitative research is a methodology that seeks to understand human experience by taking a qualitative stance and using qualitative procedures. Based on Sandra Kostere and Kim Kostere's experiences of serving on dissertation committees, this book aims to demystify both the nuances and the procedures of qualitative research, with the aim of empowering students to conduct meaningful dissertation research and present findings that are rigorous, credible, and trustworthy. It examines the fundamental principles and assumptions underlying the generic qualitative method, then covers each stage of the research process including creation of research questions, interviews, and then offers three ways of analyzing the data gathered and presenting the results. With examples of the generic qualitative method in practice to show students how to conduct their research confidently, and chapters designed to walk the researcher through each step of the dissertation process, this book is specifically tailored for the accessible generic method, and will be useful for graduate students and faculty developing dissertations in Psychology, Education, Nursing and the social sciences
