Post Keynesian analyses of monetary production have not given much attention to households as institutions, while a good deal of the literature in feminist economics discusses households in a strictly microeconomic context, with little consideration of monetary phenomena. This book, a unique study of the capitalist economy, utilizes a distinctive combination of Post Keynesian, institutional, and gender analysis to examine household economics in capitalist society in order to flesh out the gaps in each 1. Introduction -- 2. The place of households in the post Keynesian theory of monetary production -- 3. Introducing gender in post Keynesian economics -- 4. Towards a gendered post Keynesian-institutional analysis -- 5. Institutional change, households, and the state -- 6. Social intelligence and households under capitalism : conclusions and further explorations

The book discusses how culture simultaneously shapes and is shaped by the economy. Over the past few years, as the world has staggered from one financial crisis to another, the neat separation of economics and culture has constantly been challenged. This collection analyzes the process whereby a material icon invested with the symbolical power to rule social exchange becomes an explanatory narrative determining the way societies produce meaning

"A dinner party in an ornate mansion on the fashionable Upper East Side of Manhattan provides the scene for this witty and incisive play. Set in two eras - the early 1900s and our own Gilded Age - the characters move effortlessly from one period to the other. The host, a contemporary master of high-risk arbitrage, steps in and out of character as a robber baron of an earlier time. His guests of today include a Hollywood director, a not-so-cutting-edge sculptor, an online lingerie designer, an aggressive publicist, and an aging historian. Their counterparts from the past are the great man's rebellious son, a grand dame of New York society, the architect who built the mansion originally, and the maids and servants who maintain it. In this dance of rich storytelling and social commentary, it becomes strikingly clear that while old money has become new, little else has changed over the years. Children still rebel against their controlling parents, women still hope for love, and greed, snobbery, and angst persist. Black-and-white photos within text."--BOOK JACKET.

Main description: The author presents not only a review of the research done into the specialist languages employed within the field of economics but also attempts to provide a theoretical foundation of the subject in the framework of a comprehensive language model. The emphasis is placed on the historical evolution of the academic language employed in the discussion of economics as a science. In theoretical texts from the 16th to the 20th century, the term Geld (money) is discussed both in terms of its conceptual development and the metaphors drawn upon to talk about the concept. It transpires that the Geld concept underwent major changes in the course of its history, whereas there is little change of any moment to be observed in the metaphors pressed into service to talk about money and to constitute Geld as an abstract theoretical concept.
