    Der Begriff „Amor hereos“ bzw. „Amor heroicus“ bezeichnet in der Geschichte der abendländischen Medizin eine Krankheit, die zunächst durch eine affektive Zuneigung zu einer anderen Person verursacht wird, sich jedoch aufgrund einer zu starken Fixierung auf dieses Liebesobjekt schädlich auf Körper und Geist des bzw. der Liebenden auswirkt. Der Name leitet sich ursprünglich vom griechischen Wort für Liebe (Eros) ab, verselbständigt sich aber im Zuge der lateinischen Erschließung zentraler arabischsprachiger medizinischer Fachliteratur seit dem 11. Jahrhundert und nimmt dabei eine spezifische Bedeutung an. Dabei kommt es zu einer noch nicht vollständig geklärten Vermengung der semantischen Traditionen der Begriffe „eros“ und „heros“ bzw. „herus“. Die Termini „hereos“ – in den Quellen durchgängig nicht dekliniert – und „heroicus“ bezeichnen die Zugehörigkeit zur soziokulturellen Oberschicht bzw. zum Adel, deren Angehörige in diesem Kontext im Vergleich zu anderen Menschen häufiger von der Liebeskrankheit betroffen zu sein scheinen. Später werden zwar die semantischen Anschlussoptionen um klassische Exempla von Held*innen sowie die Idee der heroischen Selbstaufgabe um der Liebe zum Göttlichen willen erweitert, jedoch ist aus medizinischer Sicht der Zustand unabhängig von der Art des Liebesobjekts aufgrund seines schadenbringenden Charakters durchgehend als pathologisch gekennzeichnet und als solcher therapiebedürftig.

    Perfect Harmony and Melting Strains assembles interdisciplinary essays investigating concepts of harmony during a transitional period, in which the Pythagorean notion of a harmoniously ordered cosmos competed with and was transformed by new theories about sound - and new ways of conceptualizing the world. From the perspectives of philosophy, literary scholarship, and musicology, the contributions consider music's ambivalent position between mathematical abstraction and sensibility, between the metaphysics of harmony and the physics of sound. Essays examine the late medieval and early modern history of ideas concerning the nature of music and cosmic harmony, and trace their transformations in early modern musico-literary discourses. Within this framework, essays further offer original readings of important philosophical, literary, and musicological works. This interdisciplinary volume brings into focus the transformation of a predominant Renaissance worldview and of music's scientific, theological, literary, as well as cultural conceptions and functions in the early modern period, and will be of interest to scholars of the classics, philosophy, musicology, as well as literary and cultural studies

This volume highlights how interventions into the hegemony of biomedicine are vigorously addressed in Native American literature. The chapters cover tuberculosis and diabetes epidemics, the emergence of Native American DNA, discoveries in biotechnology and the problematics of a biomedical model of psychiatry. They analyze work by writers including Louise Erdrich, Sherman Alexie and LeAnne Howe, Kim TallBear, Linda Hogan, Heid Erdrich, Elissa Washuta, and Frances Washburn.     Abstract: Der aktuelle Klimawandel und Klimamodellierungen zeigen eine hohe Wahrscheinlichkeit eines weiteren Anstiegs der Mitteltemperaturen in Deutschland. Dieser fortlaufende Klimawandel kann einerseits zu häufigeren und stärkeren Hitzewellen, aber auch zu vermehrten Niederschlägen und Orkanen führen. Dadurch entstehen verschiedene direkte und auch indirekte Auswirkungen auf die Gesundheit der Bevölkerung in Deutschland. Besonders Herz-Kreislauf- und Atemwegserkrankungen liegen dabei im Fokus, aber auch Infektionskrankheiten, Allergien, psychische Dispositionen und Verletzungen, die durch die Extremwettereignisse verstärkt werden. Dies kann durch kurz- und auch langfristige Strategien vermindert werden um das Klima- sowie die Gesundheit der Bevölkerung zu schützen

    Perfect Harmony and Melting Strains assembles interdisciplinary essays investigating concepts of harmony during a transitional period, in which the Pythagorean notion of a harmoniously ordered cosmos competed with and was transformed by new theories about sound - and new ways of conceptualizing the world. From the perspectives of philosophy, literary scholarship, and musicology, the contributions consider music's ambivalent position between mathematical abstraction and sensibility, between the metaphysics of harmony and the physics of sound. Essays examine the late medieval and early modern history of ideas concerning the nature of music and cosmic harmony, and trace their transformations in early modern musico-literary discourses. Within this framework, essays further offer original readings of important philosophical, literary, and musicological works. This interdisciplinary volume brings into focus the transformation of a predominant Renaissance worldview and of music's scientific, theological, literary, as well as cultural conceptions and functions in the early modern period, and will be of interest to scholars of the classics, philosophy, musicology, as well as literary and cultural studies.
