Masses are other people, wie Raymond Williams die ways of seeing people kritisch formulierte gilt nicht mehr. eng: This paper is not innocent. It is about masses, their culture and kitsch. All of the three terms have suffered severe damages by various thinkers over decades. Masses are uncivilized, easy to seduce and permanent in repetition, and their culture is too, so they say. Kitsch, on the other hand, is the evil that penetrates the system of art and is destined only for the taste of the masses, who are uncivilized, ... etc. This is where the Cultural Studies and according to them this paper start from in order to point out that an exclusively aesthetic or moral discussion about these terms ends in stereotypes, while the acceptance of their sociological dimension enables a discussion on definition and in some cases a thus following metadiscourse. We find these cases in the late 60ies in Brazil, when a military dictatorship came to power and in consequence annuled civil and human rights for over nearly two decades. The introduction of a rigid censorship paralysed the press and made it hard but not impossible - for artists and intellectuals to articulate themselves. The theses is dedicated to the reactions in folk art (literatura de cordel), journalism (Ignácio de Loyola Brandão), mass literature (Cassandra Rios and Adelaide Carraro) and art (Avantgarde-Movement Tropicalismo). It is about the spaces (De Certeau/Fiske) we can construct in order to show resistance artistically and personally. It is a pamphlet for the individual. Masses are other people, as Raymond Williams criticized the common ways of seeing people, does not apply anymore.
