    ger: Nicht nur die schaffenden Künste entwickeln im Laufe der Zeit eine Faszination für die Thematik der Prostitution, sondern vor allem der französische Literaturbetrieb. Drei hervorstechende Persönlichkeiten entspringen seiner Tradition und werden in ihrer intermedialen Dimension umfassend bis in die Gegenwart rezipiert. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der soziokulturellen Dimension sowie der literarischen Aufarbeitung des Themas und zeichnet anhand der Schicksale der drei Protagonistinnen die im Untertitel suggerierte Stellung der literarischen Außenseiterrolle nach. Während sich der erste Teil der Arbeit für die divergenten Rollen der Frau in der Gesellschaft und der Bedeutung des horizontalen Gewerbes für ein neu entstehendes Frauenbild beschäftigt, widmet sich der zweite Teil ausschließlich der fiktiven Auseinandersetzung mit den Prostituierten und dem Kurtisanenroman als Gattung. Anhand der gewählten Werke von Antoine-François Prévost, Alexandre Dumas fils und Émile Zola wird geklärt, welche Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede die Hauptfiguren in ihrer poetischen Darstellung erfahren und warum ‘Manon Lescaut’ als Stein des Anstoßes der literarischen Beschäftigung mit dem Kurtisanentum ab dem 18. Jahrhundert gesehen werden kann. Ausgehend von diesem Werk wird die Multiplikation der Inhalte und Motive untersucht. Abseits von romantisierenden Darstellungen wie man sie bei Dumas fils findet, können zahlreiche gemeinsame Tendenzen beschrieben werden, die alle drei gewählten Literaturschaffenden in der literarischen Disposition verfolgen. Dabei kristallisiert sich heraus, dass der Versuch, den Außenseiterinnen der Gesellschaft eine Stimme zu verleihen, als zentrales Anliegen der Autoren betrachtet werden kann und mit einer Dringlichkeit verfolgt wird, die der bis heute anhaltenden Beliebtheit des Stoffes Rechnung trägt. eng: Not only are different types of creative arts developing a fascination with the topic of prostitution over the course of time, but it is also of widespread interest among the French literary scene as a great number of novels on the topic suggests. Three prominent literary characters spring from this tradition and gain widespread international recognition as a result of intermedial relations. The present work deals with the socio-cultural dimension as well as the literary review of the issue and draws reference to the fate of these three protagonists who are referred to as literary outsiders as the subtitle suggests. Whilst the first part of this thesis is devoted to the examination of the divergent roles of women in society and the importance of prostitution for a new emerging image of women, the second part is exclusively addressed to the literary works with regard to the topic of prostitution. On the basis of selected works by Antoine-François Prévost, Alexandre Dumas fils and Émile Zola similarities and differences in the poetic representation of the main female characters are examined. Furthermore, it is clarified why 'Manon Lescaut' constitutes the focal point for the other works to follow after the 18th century. Based on this novel, the multiplication of prevalent motives is taken into consideration. In addition, many common trends all three poets follow, can be described aside from romanticized representations as found in Dumas fils. In all three works the main attention is focused on giving outsiders of society a strong voice. In summary, it remains to be said that the enduring popularity of the topic might be explained by this substantial quest for equality.
