    ger: Die Dissertation bemüht sich, ein wichtiges Merkmal des Werks Albert Drachs zu erfassen und zu beschreiben und durch einen gemeinsamen Gesichtspunkt mit dem Werk seines Zeitgenossen Michel Foucault in Verbindung zu bringen. Meine Fragestellung zielt darauf ab, Drach als Autor zu beschreiben, der wesentliche Kennzeichen der Moderne zur Darstellung gebracht hat. Welche Zusammenhänge bestehen zwischen Macht, Gewalt und Recht im Raum? Wie sind diese Zusammenhänge im Werk repräsentiert und wie deutlich lassen sich die Linien zwischen diesen Repräsentation und den Paradigmen der Moderne ziehen?Von diesen Fragestellungen ausgehend, sind die einzelnen Schritte der Analyse in folgender Kapitelfolge systematisiert: Zuerst geht es darum, das Schaffen Foucaults im Zeitraum von den 1950er-Jahren bis etwa 1975 als Raumphilosophie zu charakterisieren. Dann sollen konkrete Räume in der Literatur Drachs als markante Beispiele einer von Disziplin geprägten Raumstruktur aus dem Werk herausgehoben werden. Der zweite Teil der Arbeit ist wiederum in ein Foucault gewidmetes Kapitel und ein Kapitel zu Drach unterteilt und nimmt sich der Biopolitik und der Gouvernementalität als Komplementärkonzept zur Disziplin an.Als Ergebnis der Bemühungen, die Schriften systematisch nach den vorgestellten thematischen Schwerpunkten in eine Unterteilung zu führen, lässt sich feststellen, dass sowohl Drach als auch Foucault die politischen und gesellschaftlichen Zustände ihrer Zeit als Ergebnis kontinuierlicher Entwicklungen aus der Moderne begreifen, die von den Begriffen Normierung und Disziplin geprägt sind. Der Raum nimmt in diesem Prozess insofern eine Sonderposition ein, als er die wesentliche Kategorie darstellt, in der diese Entwicklung statthaben konnte. eng: This thesis aims to find and describe the main features of the work of Albert Drach in order to connect them with the work of his contemporary, Michel Foucault. In this, I adopt a wide view of all of Drach?s writings and of Foucault?s major texts up to the period of ?The History of Sexuality? from 1975. I follow the main results of American researchers in the field of human geography who stressed the importance of space in this period.There is no doubt about the impact of Foucault?s philosophy on the understanding of the modern era. My question is to what extent Drach as an author of modern fiction described these features of modernity. Where are the connections in topics between power, violence and the law (das Recht)? How are these connections represented in his work, and where do these lines form a connection between this representation and the paradigms of modernity?Starting from these questions, I divide the analysis into four stages: the first presents a close reading of Foucault?s work from about the 1950s to 1975 regarding his philosophy of space. I then attempt to apply the language of space to selected texts of Albert Drach in order to show the way in which he allows space to interfere with the storyline. The main focus here lies in the description of closed spaces and the way disciplinary society works. I attempt to show that most characters in Drach?s writings are encircled or imprisoned in various ways. Their movements are inhibited, and it seems that this is in fact a hidden nucleus in Drach?s writings. A reading of Foucault´s two topics of biopolitics and governmentality and a juxtaposition to Drach?s work in this respect shows, that Drach?s focus was the individual body (or the disciplinary body) and that he used only parts of the discourse on biopolitics to criticise legal and political problems in post-war Austria.
