One encounters the multiplicity of voices, the polyglot of Babel, that critiques the moving images of a pagan society. Just as old Geoffrey gathered his fellow travelers at the Tabbard Inn, so editors collect scholarly critics who can interpret tales with intoxicating insights. While too many seek to expound ponderous discourse, critics—like pilgrims—should also be storytellers. The piquant should be mixed well with the pedantic.In fact, the best studies of a film are those that have entered its world and imbibed its spirit.
