    ger: Dantes Liebe zu Beatrice und sein am Ende der Vita Nuova gegebenes Versprechen, von ihr zu sagen, was noch von keiner Frau gesagt worden ist, stellen eine wesentliche Motivation für die Entstehung der Divina Commedia dar. Ausgangspunkt der Dissertation ist dieses Versprechen. Durch den Vergleich der DC mit früheren Liebesgedichten an Beatrice und der Vita Nuova wird dargelegt, daß die Huldigung an die Herrin in der Comedia ebenfalls den Vorbildern der höfischen Huldigungsdichtung und des Dolce Stil Nuovo folgt. Durch den Liebespakt ist Beatrice verpflichtet, ihrem Getreuen Hilfe zu leisten und so initiiert sie gemeinsam mit der Gottesmutter und der Hl. Lucia die Jenseitsreise um den Verirrten zu retten. Obwohl sie erst im paradiso terrestre wieder persönlich auftritt ist Beatrice durch die gesamte DC hindurch präsent. Die wichtigste Stelle, die den Zwiespalt zwischen der höfischen Liebesideologie und der christlichen Moral zeigt, ist Beatrices Rügerede im paradiso terrestre. Der Höhepunkt der Huldigung wird allerdings erst im Paradies erreicht, wenn der Dichter seine Herrin auf ihrem Sitz in der rosa mistica zu Füßen der Gottesmutter schauen darf. Nun kann er sein Versprechen aus der Vita Nuova als erfüllt betrachten.
    eng: Comparing the Divine Comedy with the earlier love-poems for Beatrice and the Vita Nuova the thesis works out that a great deal of the homage paid to Beatrice in the Comedy takes it's rise in the courtly love poetry and the love poetry of the dolce stil nuovo. Starting point is Dante's promise at the end of the Vita Nuova to say of Beatrice what never before had been said of a lady. This promise was an important motivation for the creation of the Divine Comedy. The relationship between Dante and Beatrice is of great importance for the plot because it is Beatrice's duty as a courtly lady to help Dante who lost his way in life as well as in the selva oscura. To rescue him she organizes together with the Holy Vergin and S.Lucia his journey to the next world.
    Although she reappears not until the paradiso terrestre Beatrice is present during the entire Comedy. Her rebuke in the paradiso terrestre is one of the most important passages of the Divine Comedy and shows the moral problems of courtly love. This last great scene of the Purgatorio reveals Dante's dilemma between his desire to continue the relationship of courtly love as it had been before the death of Beatrice and the realization that now his lady is a completely different one. Therefore, seen from the point of view of courtly love the Purgatorio is the most interesting part of the Comedy. But the climax of Beatrice's glorification is in the Paradiso when Dante is allowed to admire his lady in all her divine beauty on her seat in the rosa mistica next to the Holy Vergin. At this point he has completely fulfilled his promise of the Vita Nuova.
