    "L'existence humaine a vu son découpage en périodes, âges de la vie, profondément modifié : c'est bien ce phénomène de re-segmentation et, surtout, de re-sémantisation aux conséquences multiples qu'affronte ici un collectif de sémioticiens analysant les productions sémiotiques touchant aux différents âges de la vie et couvrant un champ socio-culturel très vaste (littérature, écrits journalistiques, discours médicaux, campagnes publicitaires, compétences linguistiques comparées, pratiques musicales ou plastiques, séquences comportementales typiques). Ainsi l'on verra comment, par exemple, les discours médiatiques construisent un destinataire-cible, bandes de jeunes violents, adultes surmenés ou bien encore seniors hyper-actifs, alimentant efficacement les représentations sociales, ouvrant de nouvelles parts de marché, oeuvrant au changement culturel. La sémiotique des âges de la vie apparaîtra donc comme un important chapitre de la sémiotique des cultures liée fondamentalement au corps et à ses significations, c'est encore une fois la question du temps qui en constitue le centre avec toutes les variations passionnelles qu'induit le changement de perspective sur le temps. En définitive, il s'agit bien de comprendre comment d'un âge de la vie à l'autre, le point de vue sur le temps change, comment se constituent des régimes temporels distincts, représentations du temps qui scandent notre existence et forment le coeur de toute culture"--P.
