    Il volume raccoglie quattordici saggi aventi per tema i volgarizzamenti medioevali di materia storica, sacra o profana. Il filo rosso che lega gli studi è il riconoscimento del fatto che nel Basso Medioevo questi testi costituirono un tassello di un mosaico nel quale cultura elitaria e cultura popolare venivano a toccarsi e alimentarsi scambievolmente; a tale connessione rispondeva poi quella tra differenti ambiti di sapere, perché la storia propriamente detta, la mitologia, l’agiografia e la narrazione biblica erano sentite come parti di un tutto unitario. I metodi d’indagine qui adottati attengono a discipline diverse poste in dialogo tra loro: la filologia italiana e romanza, la storia della lingua italiana e la storia medioevale This volume discusses medieval volgarizzamenti of historical, religious, and profane writings. All fourteen studies presented here recognise the fact that in the late Middle Ages, these texts were an important meeting point for elitist and popular culture which mutually stimulated each other. At the same time, different worlds of knowledge came together as history, mythology, hagiography, and biblical narration were considered to form one entity

    Die Beiträge des Buches widmen sich romanischen Novellen aus Spätmittelalter und Renaissance und sind der übergeordneten Frage nach einem neuen Menschenbild in diesen verpflichtet. Dabei richtet sich das Erkenntnisinteresse auf eine erzählimmanente Anthropologie, deren Konturen zum Teil über den literarischen Vergleich verdeutlicht werden. Da die Renaissance einen Umbruch kultureller Gewissheiten mit sich bringt, erweist sich die narrative Suche nach dem, was den Menschen angesichts seines Denkens und Tuns essentiell ausmachen soll, als zentral. Eine Epoche, die für die Neuorientierung des reflexiven und sinnlichen Zugangs zur Welt steht, kann indes nur bedingt bereits gefestigte Anschauungen neugefasster humaner Identität bereitstellen. Das Erproben unterschiedlicher Ansätze dominiert. Für ein solches Vorgehen ist das Genre der Novelle als ein damals noch relativ offenes sehr geeignet. Boccaccio, Bandello und Marguerite de Navarre bilden den Kern der Betrachtungen.
